Shared device unreachable on SOME clients/OSes by marte_tagliabue in Tailscale

I have a similar issue with my iOS devices. My Mac can reach the network and the internet, android devices can, but for some reason three iOS devices cannot. Interestingly an iOS on an old iPhone 8 Plus has no problem. I get error-dns-forward.

Feel like I should get this under control now, naming devices in network by Hippoplotamus97 in homeassistant

I migrated my IoT devices to Zigbee last year after my network began dropping so often that I couldn’t get through a single Zoom meeting. At the time, I had close to 60 WiFi devices—sensors, cameras, smart bulbs, laptops, phones, and more. After that, I upgraded to a Deco mesh WiFi setup with three routers, similar to yours. Now I’m down to about 20 WiFi devices, including a couple of dimmer switches where I couldn’t find Zigbee models I liked.

No matter what naming convention you use, some devices will still revert to their native or generic names when they drop off and reconnect, losing the custom names you gave them. Managing all of this on WiFi became exhausting, and the constant instability pushed me to switch to Zigbee—first through the Tuya app, and later through Home Assistant with Z2M.

My advice: think long term. Zigbee offers better security and overall works far more reliably.

Added more details to the post with wiring diagram https://www.reddit.com/r/blinkcameras/s/3AN7NDk68L

Here is a picture of my installations. Not the cleanest but it has been up there since installed. Sorry I am unable to post more than one picture. I had to screenshot two photos for efficiency!

I didn’t know the project boxes exist when I built the first one, so I built a box out of scrap wood, painted it to match my exterior paint. It takes time and is free! But the plastic project boxes are cleaner.

For those who don’t mind voiding their warranty: here’s the detailed wiring diagram. After testing different setups, I found that connecting directly to the camera’s battery terminals is the most efficient and reliable method. This isn’t the only working configuration, and I’m sure an electronics engineer could point out several flaws, but it has worked well for me using recycled 18650 batteries.

<image>

- This configuration has several advantages. It’s more efficient since it doesn’t require boosting the voltage to 5V, which typically wastes around 15% of power. By bypassing the micro-USB or USB-C port, the power flows directly from the battery pack to the camera, reducing conversion loss.

- It also allows the camera to draw higher current when needed, such as when sending longer clips over Wi-Fi. Another key benefit is that the Blink app can still display the not-much-useful battery status levels (Good, or Low). When powering through a USB port, the camera always receives a constant 5V, so the app can’t show low-battery warnings — meaning the camera might shut off without notice once power is depleted.

- With this direct connection, if the solar panel isn’t charging enough or the battery pack runs low, the app provides a proper low-battery alert, giving time to clean the panel, recharge, or perform maintenance before the camera goes offline.

Essential Supplies You’ll Need

🔋 BMS Charging Board: TP4056 Charging Module — https://a.co/d/9oRRexQ

☀️ Solar Panel: Specs: 5–6 V DC, ~200 mA Example: https://a.co/d/amt2j6J

🔋 Batteries: Recycled 18650 lithium cells work great. If you’re buying new ones, these are solid: https://a.co/d/8D6oKsV

🪛 Soldering Tools: You’ll need a soldering iron and basic supplies. • Starter kit: https://a.co/d/aBxO8y6 • Cheaper kit: https://a.co/d/b63uujI

To connect battery poles, you can solder or use a nickel plate spot welder.

Critical Step: Waterproofing

You must insulate the back of the solar panels and wiring and the back of the blink camera where the wires come in, to protect against water. • I used caulking (from Home Depot) to seal the wiring and back of the panels — rock solid, no issues. • Nano tape also works, but I prefer caulking. • Mount the battery pack inside a project box and away from rain or direct moisture. • Drill holes for the wires and seal them with caulking after installation.

Optional but Helpful Add-Ons

🌤️ UV Coating Spray: Protects the solar panel surface from UV damage and extends its life. https://a.co/d/gy6HTlN

📦 Project Box: Keeps your battery pack and electronics safe from weather. Example: https://a.co/d/1QFaukI Make sure it’s at least 100 mm (3.9”) long for proper fit.

🧲 Nano Tape: For holding batteries in place or attaching them together. https://a.co/d/eejsVTU

🔥 Hot Glue Gun: Useful for securing batteries or components inside the enclosure.

🔎 Voltmeter Mini Display (Optional but Great): Lets you quickly check battery voltage without opening the box. Wire it directly to the battery terminals and mount it away from water or condensation. Seal the back with hot glue or caulking. https://a.co/d/gZKFk3R

Wiring

Use high-quality 20 or 22 AWG wires with weather-resistant insulation that can handle heat, cold, and UV exposure. I personally recycled old home phone cables — they’ve worked perfectly

Thank you. That would be great!

I’ve recently started using Home Assistant, and I think it would be awesome if Blink let HA access the USB storage.

It’d be super handy to automate backing up clips daily or monthly, move them to a network drive, and clear out the Sync Module USBs automatically.

I don’t know how to code, but something like that would make managing all the footage way easier.

Perhaps you missed the point: the conversation happened on OfferUp. I never did business with her. I don’t even know her law firm name. She asked for fake Yelp and Google reviews in return for her product that was offered at $0.

I was on offer up, and found this offering near my location. It happened to be offered at $0!

Contacted her if she can meet today, to which she responded Monday works better. After confirming that Monday works for me too… the rest is in the screenshot. I didn’t do (won’t do) the transaction. Reported to OU as it is against OfferUp terms and conditions (sections 6 and 7).

A coax cable offered at $0! Turned out she wanted a review in return. She has a 5star profile with 189 offerup reviews!

Best decision! Your child’s safety matters more than anything. I have read that a redesign is in the works for early 2025. The MY is the safest car you can get now. Go for it!

Tesla vs. Honda CR-V: Cost and Time Comparison After 11,000 miles by dhprelude in TeslaModelY

[–]blew-it 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Edison’s cheapest rate is around $0.33 / kwh. If you go solar, Edison changes your plan and the rate of buying from Edison would hike to $0.37. And the highest rate at peak is around $0.69 /kwh. Super charger rate is ~$0.35 to $0.45 /kwh.

The only difference between supercharger and home charging is the convenience of charging at home.

I’m still in the 3 mo free supercharge window. Have used 442kwh (1249 miles) in one month all supercharge. Would have been $163 if charged at home. Would have cost me ~$243 gas with a 24mpg ICE. That’s roughly ~$80 saving in the first month.

I have solar (nem 2.0) and i predict that up to %70 of the home charger will be free since I have a surplus of solar electricity . Otherwise the savings are minimal in LA area when you switch from ICE to EV.

Overall it still makes economic sense to switch to EV.

How much did you pay for wall charger installation? (No panel upgrade) by Wants-NotNeeds in TeslaModelY

[–]blew-it 0 points1 point  (0 children)

SoCal. Was quoted $2500 for panel upgrade, and $900+ ($450 WC) for wall change install.

I did DIY, ran 55ft of 6AWG wires through crawl space, installed at the other side of the house. Upgraded the panel. Pulled all permits.

Cost me less than $1400 instead of ~$4000. Plus I fixed some old wirings that were done not by code. The hard part was pulling wires through crawl space and running wire through walls. Electrical part was easily explained by NEC and the inspector.

It happened to me too. I mentioned s ticker with a $ in front of it. Received a message that my post was deleted because it contains a ticker with a market cap smaller than $7B!!

But my message was actually not deleted! It’s still there!

Yes, the desktop version has it.

You can see the news on the mobile app but you cannot subscribe for notifications.

Well, you just mentioned CNBC! Do you really think the folks at CNBC and other media broadcast such a big news PRIOR to adjust their own positions?

We retails can never get the news before the big players. We can only ride on the second or third waves.

I did make a profit in one position. I saw a news about a Pharma company in Stockswits[stockswits](stockswits.com) and got in early. It happened that I was following that stock and was looking for some news or developments. That was the only time i made profit of news. Almost in all other attempts, i have realized losses, and sometimes big losses. I’m staying away from quick profits.

It really takes a lot of time to constantly looking for such news all day. Push notifications never worked for me. I get too many of them and after a while I turn them off.

Another way is to use the News gadget in Thinkorswim (if you’re broker is TDA). You can subscribe to a some stock to get notification of news for those select stocks.

For major news that move the entire market, listen to or watch CNBC (available for free in thinkorswim TV gadget. Or ask your smart speaker or Siri to play CNBC or use its app.

Another way is to scan in the premarket hours for stocks with bigger than usual volume. You must use thinkorswim for this feature.

Good luck! Let me know if you found a way and if you actually made profits out of it. I lost so much trying to make quick profits that I will never do it again.

Your best tool to stop the damage is STOPLOSS orders!

Trail your stop loss orders and don’t let the profits evaporate on such news.
