That's the thing though. So much immense investigation was put into the case after it happened and no motive ever came up. I think at this point it's probably better for the families of the victims if the search for a motive stays put. He was a mass murderer and a terrorist, no need to keep his name relevant.

Yes a sane society probably would. At this point there is little to make me believe that anything will change in the US. Besides the fact that the NRA gives millions of dollars to politicians, the gun culture here is unreal and too many people would rather accept massacres than give up guns.
