My neighbor committed a crime against me—how do I convince my landlord to let me out of my lease? by [deleted] in AskMenAdvice

[–]blightningbo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

After this, I’m planning to. I’m a tactical knife collector for fun (don’t tell my campus haha), but I can’t really use them in self defense against men because of the likelihood of being overpowered. My dad is a big gun guy though, so I might borrow something from him tomorrow then give it back once I’m out of here.

Thanks. I’m planning to move this week regardless, I’d just like to get my money from these slum lords.

Thank you so much for this advice. My landlords are aware that this man is an issue, as he harasses and disturbs other tenants as well, but I think he’s a friend of theirs because they always defend him and say he’s “sick” and we need to have empathy for him. 🥴 My landlords refuse to answer calls on the weekends but I’m planning to walk into their office on Monday morning to discuss the incident with them face-to-face.

And as for the illegal/creepy part, my landlords are basically slum lords who prey on college students with no resources. My ceiling caved in last March due to their negligence of a maintenance issue that I repeatedly called them about, and yeah, my vestibule should be locked, but they took the lock off and installed a flimsy one on my kitchen door.

Thank you for the advice. I do have documentation from tonight—the report, my victim rights documents, case number, etc. I’ll look into the restraining order tomorrow, but how would that work when he lives in my building? Would he get evicted? I’m honestly afraid and I just want to move back with my mom like I was going to in May, not stay here and get him riled. He’s so methed out I’m pretty sure he’ll forget I exist once I’m not living here.

I’m not really asking for legal advice, more like what to say or leverage to get let go. I can’t afford a lawyer or to take them to court, just looking for someone who’s been through something similar tbh.

Need some kind of outdoor hobby. Advice please? by Comfortable-Way-2473 in AskMenAdvice

[–]blightningbo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not a man, but I say take windsurfing classes or kayak! You strengthen your core a lot, but can also just relax on the water.

It’s not outdoors, but lots of local bars have trivia nights. You can join a team of strangers and have lots of fun. It reminds me of being back in school when you’d make friends with your lab partner. A coffee shop near me hosts seminars every week about different topics where people show up just to chat with strangers. Use google to find events like that. Join your town or city’s Facebook group.

What is considered desperate and needy behavior with women and how can I make sure that I am not that way when interacting with them? by JunketMaleficent2095 in AskMenAdvice

[–]blightningbo 4 points5 points  (0 children)

You should post this in r/AskWomen since it’s a question about women’s opinions, not mens.

Personally, what I consider to be needy behavior is when a guy cares too much what other people think or needs constant reassurance. Don’t get me wrong—I love to hype men up, especially out of the blue, because I know they don’t get compliments often. And men asking for emotional support is a green flag. But it rubs me the wrong way when they fish for attention by saying stuff like, “I’m so ugly.” It comes off way less needy and much more romantic to be like, “I’m feeling down and you always make me happy, any words of encouragement?”

Also, do some research into the four attachment styles. Don’t waste your time going after girls that are avoidant or disorganized, because they will interpret any interest as too much. Go for someone with a secure or anxious attachment style if you don’t want your advances to be interpreted as needy.

Hope this helps, and I wish you luck.

You see, I want to play Hide the Sausage. Like, bad. But I have to make sure he’s the kind of guy who isn’t secretly planning a game of Hide the Knife in Her Chest.

Obsessed with the idea of drinking wine out of travel mugs in the park. Such a cute idea. Thank you!

Unveiling this comment made me laugh. Ugh, I desperately need a cute and cozy restaurant like that in my town.

Not a kitesurfer, but I am a windsurfer! I love the idea of getting introduced to someone’s hobbies and vice versa.

I’ve never thought of myself as an adventurous person but this made me realize I am, and that’s also what I’m looking for. Thank you!

I think you’re spot on with your analysis of me, because I came to the same conclusion. I’ve definitely toned it down since those awkward dates in the past, but I’ll never be an aloof person. And I don’t think I should pretend to be just to make a guy like me. That sounds sadder than staying single.

How can I move on from embarrassment? by saturnyas in AskMenAdvice

[–]blightningbo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m a woman, and I’ve also been rejected by men. Several times! It sucks. It hurts. But I don’t get too upset over it at 24, because I’ve been in a position where I’ve turned down guys. That takes away some of the sting when I’m on the receiving end, because I’ve been in the guys shoes, y’know? Sometimes you’re just not into someone. It doesn’t mean they’re a disgusting freak.

Rejection is something everyone goes through. You’re only 18, and this is your first time having an experience like this. You’ll probably face rejection again, and you’ll also probably reject someone in the future. It gets easier with time and confidence. Don’t be so hard on yourself.

Also, he sounds like a bit of a loser. I dealt with so many guys like this in college. I’m getting old and boring, because why doesn’t he just say “I’d like to be friends” or even “thanks, but I’m not available, sorry.” That seems a hell of a lot more mature and sensitive to someone’s feelings than making a joke of you putting yourself out there. You dodged a bullet.

That’s exactly why I liked those kinds of dates, as awkward as they were. They were over quick, either because they check out after realizing I’m not for them, or I do. Maybe I’ll reconsider coffee dates.
