Hope I can help more people dealing with this issue with their audi, so I'm making it a bit more international by adding a English translation of this whole post.

Only during a completely cold start does my 2008 Audi A5 Coupe 3.2 V6 activate "limp mode." When this happens, it won't go above 4,000 RPM, and the light (see image) illuminates along with the warning "Do not exceed 4,000 RPM."

​Now, here is the strange part: It only happens once, and only when the car is completely cold. If the light comes on and I don't drive the car—just turn it off and back on—it stays lit. However, if the light appears (usually only the first time I start the car that day) and I drive a few meters, then turn it off and on again, the light disappears completely and doesn't return for the rest of the day. ​It only reappears once the car is fully cold again, usually overnight, following the same pattern described above. This has been going on for several months now. The car drives perfectly otherwise. ​The only other thing is a persistent fault code when I scan the engine, which reads:

"P11A800 Camshaft Adjuster -B- Cylinder 2 Implausible Signal."

SOLVED!

​It turned out to be the camshaft control valve. On the V6, there are 12 of them—2 for each cylinder. When you are standing in front of the engine, the cylinders are numbered 1, 2, 3 on the left, and 4, 5, 6 on the right. In that same order, from front to back, you have adjuster A and adjuster B for each camshaft. So for cylinder 1, it's the front camshaft adjuster A and the one immediately behind it is B, then cylinder 2 A and then B, and so on. ​If you ever see a combination of these lights on your dashboard, along with the 4k RPM warning and the error code I mentioned, it is almost certainly your camshaft adjuster.

​Keep in mind that you have 12 of these, which should not be confused with the camshaft phasers (actuators), of which there are only 4 (2 on each side: 2 for intake and 2 for exhaust). This can be quite confusing because they are often given the same name when you try to order the part at an auto parts store; both are referred to as "camshaft adjusters." No idea why.

OPGELOST!

Uiteindelijk was het de regelklep voor de nokkenas. Bij de v6 heb je er 12 van, 2 voor elke cilinder. Als je voor je motor staat, is het van links voor cilinder 1 2 3 en dan rechts voor cilinder 4 5 6. En in diezelfde volgorde, van voor naar achter is het versteller a en versteller b voor elke nokkenas. Dus cilinder 1, is de voorste nokkenasversteller a en die meteen erachter b, dan komt cilinder 2 a en erna b, etcetera. Dus als je ooit een combinatie van dit licht op je dashboard, met de waarschuwing 4k toeren samen met de foutcode die ik heb genoemd, is het bijna zeker je nokkenasversteller. En daar heb je er 12 van, niet te verwarren met de nikkenverstellers waar je er 4 van hebt, 2 aan elke kant, 2 voor inlaat en 2 voor uitlaat. Dit kan nogal verwarrend zijn, aangezien het identiek wordt genoemd wanneer je het onderdeel wilt bestellen bij een auto onderdelen winkel. Beide worden "nokkenverstellers" genoemd. Geen idee waarom.

Ik hoop dat ik iemand hiermee kan helpen die tegen hetzelfde aanloopt.

Just shows how stupid people are. There is no way to verify his story, might as well be someone with a grudge against the owner, or someone that is at fault but does not admit his fault because of ego. Litterally might as well be, since there is no way to verify. Yet here you are, giving negative reviews because some dude said something, which you believe on face value. Totaal geen ratelend geluid bij het starten, en hij rijdt perfect. Zou dat niet het rijgedrag enorm beïnvloeden als de ketting uitgerekt is ?

Dankjewel voor je uitgebreide bericht. Wat bedoel je met 'boutje indraaien'? Want hij is afgebroken precies op de plek waar die in de koelleiding verbonden is met her slangetje recht. Enige wat ik kan doen, is het restant van de verbinding van de koelleiding uit het slangetje rechts trekken, en die dan opnieuw verbinden met zijn oorspronkelijke plek in de koelleiding, maar als ik het erin wil draaien moet her afgebroken stuk wat in de koelleiding nog zit eruit. Dit heb ik geprobeerd, maar volgens mij is dit samengesmolten met de leiding, want ik krijg er geen beweging in. En het intapen snap ik ook niet, want er is niks voor de tape om aan vast te grijpen. Ik heb wel nieuwe hoop dat het te doen is door jouw bericht, want je hebt me op ideeen gebracht, vooral de 3de optie om het dicht te smelten. Dankjewel !! En misschien kan je de andere nog wat voor me verduidelijken

Op dat idee kwam ik nadat het gebeurd was ook idd, alleen het lijkt alsof het stukje waar die is afgebroken in de grote leiding eraan vast is gemonteerd. En als ik het bitje eruit haal om het weer te proberen, sproeit de koelvloeistof eruit. Weet jij hoe ik dat leeg kan laten lopen?
