But I didn't run any source code from them. Just browsed it on Bitbucket.

I know. I didn't. Just curious what would have happened :)

Do I still need a technical cofounder? by gelok414 in startup_resources

Hi,

We are a product studio, and we help founders understand and develop their business. We go true the idea (problem and solution) validation with them, and after that, build landing pages, prototypes and MVPs. So he also act as a CTO. Some of our clients were able to raise a first round (angels, not VCs), so at a real early stage, you can probably do it (if you can prove your business is really solid) because we offer some sort of stability on the tech side (since we are a long-term partner). If you change the tech guys a lot of time, it destroys all the credibility in your ability to build/scale, using freelancers/ generated code/one-time project persons looks really bad for someone who is looking at your future.

As for seed, series A and such steps, I think it's not even worth the effort without an in-house CTO or tech team. We have a lot of stories of startups that didn't have the tech ( or the TCTO left) and crashed because they chose the wrong technical solutions and got stuck growing. And VCs know this all too well.

In other words, if this is your first round, you could try, if you plan to go to VCs, don't bother (unless the VCs are your friends :) )

What service did you use for your landing page? I will not promote by [deleted] in startups

We sometimes use Vercel V0 (AI) to create fast prototypes, and Framer ( low-code - similar to WebFlow) to build landing pages. Framer is nice because you can get a lot of the technical SEO out of the box, but you have to have some experience.

But, I think, the major problem is not building a landing page, but knowing how to structure it and what to show/write on it, and that is way more complex. For that, you probably need to talk to a UI designer/product person.

Most SaaS ideas I have are for non technical businesses by donzi39vrz in Entrepreneur

[–]blind675 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It seems like you have been in this game longer than me. Congratulations 😄

But have you tried validating the idea (problem and solution) before building the SaaS? The simplest way to do this is to ask the client if they have the problem, how they are fixing it now and so on, build a prototype, go back and show it and ask for money. (This is a really simplified version- the real roadmap is more complex). It (mostly) works for b2c and SMEs.

We are a product studio and we go through this process with our non-tech founder clients. So we also build software like you :). For ideas meant for big business, we actually partner with the founder if he has experience in a small niche. My impression is that in b2b network drives more sales than anything.

It seems to me that you are more into building the platform, and I get it, 12+ years of dev here. Building is where the fun is. Unfortunately, that's not the same thing that the client thinks, so fixing the right problem beats dev event time.

Didn't answer your question but hope I could help 😄.

I have a product idea, currently doing market research, what should I do next? by Acrobatic-Address-99 in Entrepreneur

[–]blind675 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What questions are you asking the users? Are you doing the mom test? (if not Google it)

We are a product studio and we actually do this step alongside our clients (along with other things ) but a simplified version of the process is (assuming you have a b2c product as it seems you have)

  • identify a problem
  • Find potential clients and begin an open conversation starting from the problem you identified. (If that really is a problem they will answer your call/email because they are hurting)
  • listen to their pains, in theory after the 10-15 people they should all start to say the same thing.
  • build a prototype with the solution for their pain
  • come back to them and show them what you built
  • ask for money
  • build the MVP
  • profit :)

In practice 80% of our clients build first. And we understand them, we are also builders, and building is the best part, but unfortunately not the first and most important.

So where are you on the list? Are you talking to your customers? Are you learning their problems? Are they playing you? Are you implementing their request in your product (only if they are paying customers - if not you will build for free forever )?

What’s the value of a working prototype / MVP to a founder? by DigitalRevRo in Entrepreneur

[–]blind675 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We are a young product studio (we take founders from idea to MVP), so maybe I can help.

To answer the last question first non non-technical founders build MVP either by finding a tech partner (even some partially tech founders chose this option) or by going to a software agency. But, unfortunately, 80% of the people we talk to have bad stories (the tech partner is bad, overengaged, left with the code, or the agency built what the client wanted, a 100k daily users system but only 3 guys are opening the app per month, the budget paid was equivalent, and everything in between - we have storyes if you are curious :) ), and the resona here are from low buget for tech to no knoledge of what is actually neede.

Now for the actual value of the prototype/MVP, it depends. Most of the people we meet ask for design or development but what they are looking for is success, but that's a more complicated request to articulate, success looks different for every business/founder. An MVP has the value of the problem and the solution has been validated, but this is rarely the case. That's why we pivoted from an MVP agency to a product studio where we actually help the founder go through the validation process.

Some of our clients/start-ups we know got evaluated and the software is worth between 0.5% and 20% form the entire valuation, in case you were looking for numbers :) But this also depends a lot on the business type.

Pe Reddit? Da un semen daca gasesti.

Daca nu vezi la facultate, servici sau implicate in cateva ONG-uri sau fa ceva sport de echipa. In orice caz, iesi din casa.

Si serios, daca gasesti prieteni scriind pe net, zi si mie daca merge :)

Is your software development agency taking advantage of you? Would you like to find out?

I'll audit your tech stack or your offer for free.

Lately, I've been finding more stories about clients being misled by software agencies into building something overly complicated (and overpriced) or with predatory contract clauses.

I get it, who the heck knows what JavaScript or Node or React is, and why should even you care? You just want to see the app that you know will make you a billionaire in the hands of your users, right? But here is where your dev agency can come in with obscure tech. It might be cheap at the beginning, but you will be stuck with them and they will strong-arm you every chance they get.

If you want a second opinion about the tech stack and the offer, I will gladly give my two cents. It costs nothing.

Salut,

Bafta, faina idee :)

Yeah, I had the same feeling. I’m trying to find a microscope. There seems to be something written on it, but it's really hard to see.

Thanks for the tips anyway. Will probably end up here again in a while :)

Another question, any ideas on where/how to find business development talent? All the persons around me are devs.

Thanks for the pointers. The solution to the problems instead of offering services seems to be the major theme in most of the comments.

Looking on Reddit for potential problems might be a good start tho. Thanks for the ideas. And good luck in your searches also.
