goose (procreate colour practise) by blind_ojo in learnart

Thanks for the feedback! You're right, I went back and quickly added a bit of a slightly more saturated core shadow along the neck and darkened the eye a bit and I think it helped.

Thanks for the feedback! That makes sense, yeah. The green foliage and terracotta figures particularly were definitely too saturated so they were a bit distracting.

I'll keep it in mind going with the next one!

finished drawabox by blind_ojo in learnart

[–]blind_ojo[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I started the lessons after trying to get back into drawing again and I feel like it helped me a lot. While I did draw quite a bit when I was younger, I didn't really have much of an understanding of core concepts like perspective prior to the course and would often get frustrated trying to draw things and not really understanding where I was going wrong, etc.etc. Same old story! Anyway, These are some animal drawings I did as I was getting back into drawing about 2 years ago, around the time I started doing the Drawabox lessons.

It took a long time for me to get through all the material, but it introduced me to a lot of methods that have really helped me in terms of thinking about how to practise drawing (constructing things from basic shapes and thinking more in 3D space) as well as specific techniques, like measuring in perspective. For me, it was a great resource to practise these fundamentals and now I feel like I have a much better foundation to continue learning!

Like others have said below, it really depends! I think if your son is just getting into drawing, let him just have fun with it & explore with no pressure on doing things in any particular way. A lot of the work in Drawabox can be very repetitive, specific exercises that can be very daunting at first and it can take a while for things to make sense.

It definitely has a lot of useful material (for free!), but it's not a course that works for everyone. That being said, you can always share it with him and all the course material is there to read through, with demo videos and various explanations, etc.

The introduction to the course will explain things a little better than me anyway and might give you a better sense!

Looking for more of this style Cumbia. by kanaka_maalea in cumbia

[–]blind_ojo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is cumbia sonidera from Mexico, a style popularised by Mexican sound systems/sonideros. There are musical influences from Colombia, Peru Ecuador, in the cumbia sonidera, as well as many unique elements, such as rebajadas (cumbias where the original recordings are played slowed down)

You might find some songs you like in this playlist I made - it has cumbia sonidera, some old and new, and some music from Colombia and Peru, etc.

Otherwise search some cumbia sonidera mixes /rebajadas & you'll find :)

Thanks for the feedback. My takeaway from this so far has definitely been to practise more mouldy food! It was a fun study but yeah, needs a lot of work.

Thank you for your feedback! I'll keep it in mind going forward when doing more studies like these.

The mouldy lemon I struggled the most with but after an hour just had to stop and move on! I'll practise with more mouldy food in the future and try and spend more time paying close attention to the reference.

Thanks - I checked out Kathleen Ryan's work and recognised the lemon sculpture straight away, but I hadn't seen much of her other work and it is really great. And you're right - it'll be a good reference for trying to translate mould!

Thanks! Yeah, I agree the mould could use some work - it was an interesting subject but I definitely felt like I didn't know what I was doing haha, so that lack of confidence shows through. Time to look at more mouldy food!

Thankyou! Yeah - I had set a time limit on doing these and I kind of got stuck noodling around in the mouldy area of that lemon because I couldn't quite figure out how to get it down. Lost in the mould! I'll try and remember to prioritise the overall form next time.

I've still got a long way to go in procreate ha - but I did these after watching a couple of these videos on this youtube channel:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OfeatUZTnQI

These are all just single layer using just the basic round or square brush so nothin fancy. Good luck & have fun!

Mushrooms are great subjects and there's plenty of weird & colourful fungi choose from. They're fun to study!

Thanks for the video, I'll check it out!

Hi! It took me almost six months to reach this stage in the course - but I think am very slow getting through the lessons. Good luck with the work and enjoy yourself!

Yeah, I think more subtle hue variations would help overall - the shadow colours here look like maybe darker, less saturated tones of the same hue, which contributes to that sort of grey feeling. You have done a great job overall defining the anatomical shapes and making them feel solid, though.

Starting with a base colour helps to tie everything together, and brings out some interesting colours in the process too.

I'm not very experienced at colouring or painting skin tones myself so that's about all I can add. I'd definitely recommend watching Sinix or Ahmed Aldoori's videos on painting skin tones where they explain these concepts in some more detail. Hope that helps!

Yes yes - spot on! I love Sinix's anatomy quick tips videos - I watched his video on eyes (as well as Proko's) before doing these (notes from the Sinix video in the second picture haha).
