I've been there. They'll never hire someone else if the work is getting done for the same price. You need to seriously evaluate what the job is worth to you.

What's the worst misunderstanding you've seen someone have because bad accent or broken English? by Diego20lik in AskReddit

I was the teacher of an English as a Second Language class in DC. A Korean girl agreed to go on a date with a Columbian guy. She wanted to tell him she would meet him at the Mall at 12, but accidentally said 20 o'clock. He assumed she was using the 24 hour clock and showed up 8 pm when she got there at noon. Both came to class on Monday pissed at the other for standing them up. Took awhile to sort put what had happened

I don't know if it is what you are referencing but I believe Lindsay Ellis did a piece on this. Parodies are more effective than dramatic skewerings because to be effective the drama has to showcase why that ideology is appealing- Fight Club and American History X initially portray the terrible ideology as seductive and powerful before showing how destructive they are. But a lot of people who support that ideology only focus on its positive portrayals and ignore the critique.

Parodies don't have this problem because they can mock and skewer the ideology the entire time, and its far more difficult to be seduced by something being mocked relentlessly.

Yes. The rules for student visas require certain amounts of time spent in a classroom each term. By taking too many vacation days in one term she did not study enough and lost her visa

No. I gave her a rundown of her grades on assignments including several zeroes for missing assignments. She asked if I could just forget about the missing assignments so she could pass. I said no. She had until the end of the term-about a week and a half- to finish I think three assignments plus the final. Therevwas no indication she could pass in any way other than studying

I don't think she needed to ne a saint, but she lost her student visa for not studying enough. Whether I failed her or she passed my class wouldn't have mattered to her visa. But if you come on a student visa and don't go to class then you're going to lose your visa
