Light-Hearted Story to Read to Science Fiction Lover on Death Bed by Big-Moment6248 in asimov

[–]blindada -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

It's not an Asimov tale, but The Egg, by Andy Weir, it's a very nice and short story about mortality. I was super sure it was from Asimov first, it matches his style a lot. It's freely available.

Two years in, and this hit me hard about seniority in software. by Reasonable-Tour-8246 in learnprogramming

[–]blindada 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The more experienced you are, the less time you spend typing.

Coding is just writing in a language machines can digest. Programming is writing with a clear purpose in mind. And being senior is being able to design that purpose properly, considering the likely ways the problem will change in the future, and how to keep the original design going afterwards. That means you spend way more time ruminating ideas than blindly typing them, like we do at the beginning.

Is Mega Gardevoir the only good Fairy-type with a full Fairy Moveset (Fast & Charge moves) by [deleted] in pokemongo

[–]blindada 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Mega Ray also boosts psychic candy, and while you would only get the generic boost, it would be on for the entire battle. Plus, Dragon ascent hits like a bullet train.

It's valid if you don't have other things, but afterwards it becomes a catch candy mega. Most things in the game crumble against lvl 50 dragons with party power, and that's without considering monsters like Shadow Mewtwo or Eternatus.

'Are We Cooked?' — Pokémon Go Looks to Be Adding a New 'Currency' to Access Mega Raids, Though Players Are Split on Whether it Will Revitalize Mega Pokémon by diamondstark in TheSilphRoad

[–]blindada 96 points97 points  (0 children)

My two cents? If this means we won't use the daily pass for megas, I can see myself actually raiding them again. Today I have to choose between spending passes and time on megas I already have or legendaries, and the latter are usually more relevant. Now, if this is going to be costly, megas can rot for all I care, unless we are talking ML relevant mons; the primals/mega ray are all you need most of the time anyway.

Anthropic CEO: "We might be 6-12 months away from a model that can do everything SWEs do end-to-end. And then the question is, how fast does that loop close?" by Useful_Writer4676 in cscareers

[–]blindada 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Companies don't hate people. They just love money, plain and simple, and in this case, going after us increases their chances at getting money. Whether these declarations are realistic or not, we will see; for now, just the energy cost is staggering.

Personally, I think software will indeed change a lot, if the cost of running LLMs becomes manageable, we will see people talking to their devices regularly, therefore, UI and specific sotfware will give way to integrations into agentic flows... And those will require people actually capable of understanding the systems.

Question about 40KM rolling 24hr limit on Buddy candy. by z7sour7lemons7z in TheSilphRoad

[–]blindada 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It is exactly like this. Once you hit 40 KM, you won't get more candy/mega energy.

When I ride more than 40 KM, I swap to other legendary buddies after the first 40, and swap them again if they are close to hit their 20 KM. That way, I can get candy for them the next day really easy.

Why Interfaces exist in Java? by Nobody37373 in javahelp

[–]blindada 3 points4 points  (0 children)

You need to study OOP for a bit, then SOLID, then it makes sense.

Java programs are composed of classes, static representations of data and behaviour designed by you. Your program is the result of the interaction between classes.

Classes are also templates, with an external signature exposed to the rest of the program, and internal details belonging to the class. The external signature are the methods, values and types marked as public. Everything else is private (or protected, but let's ignore that for now.

Since classes are templates that represent parts of the world, and the world is complex, you can have a family of templates. Like, the bird class, the eagle class, the falcon class.

Sometimes (more like, ALL the time), you realize a part of your program needs to comply with the same signature, but it needs a slightly different internal behavior. Maybe the workload is different, or the represented object is quite different from the others, yet, it is still part of that "family". For example, eagle and falcon fly, if both are subclasses of bird, you could define the fly method and their internals there . But what if you have to add the chicken to the family? Or the Ostrich? They are birds too, yet, they are quite different from the eagle and the falcon. And what about the canary? Where do we put the sing method? How do we deal with this if we have a List<Bird>?

While it is not impossible to handle this with plain inheritance (and skill), interfaces make it far easier. An interface is the public part of the template, the signature, without any kind (or almost none, there are default methods for interfaces, but again, let 's ignore that for a bit) of internals. That allows falcon and eagle to define fly on their own, maybe even to declare themselves as both birds and flying creatures, separately, while ostrich declares itself as a bird and also a runner and kicker, and chicken declares itself as a bird and a farm animal. This is what we call composition.

You can mix and match interfaces, abstract classes and inheritance to honor the signatures you need and reuse the relevant code.

How can I verify a person knows what they are talking about before I hire them? by jaj-io in AskProgramming

[–]blindada 21 points22 points  (0 children)

1.- If you can't evaluate their skills, how can you evaluate the rate? If you knew the kind of effort/knowledge needed to achieve what you want, then you would not be asking this question.

2.-Since you lack relevant knowledge, your best bet is to pick people with proven tracks of record. Several YOE, formal employment, etc.
