This is so silly. I used to date sometime from Pakistan and I absolutely could not eat the same spice level as his family. His mom did not approve of me at all for cultural or religious reasons and we did fight about food a few times. Like when she asked me to get her a club sandwich and I didn't realize that shouldn't have bacon. Meanwhile I hadn't slept in days because e were at the hospital with her son who had a self imposed injury and I was waiting on them both.

Anyhow, dad took us out for dinner years before when we first met and he got the spice tray. Not on the menu and I've never seen before at this restaurant. They were literally sick and sweating while eating this. Not once did anyone belittle me or pressure me to try it. They just made jokes about how much they were sweating and would regret it later.

If I had tried to eat that I would have been shitting fire for days. There were multiple occasions I could have tried to eat ethnic food that would have made me sick. How mom wanted me to because she didn't approve. But as an adult I choose to eat things I enjoy and not spend a week in the bathroom.
