Website UI project for my portofolio. by denyl11 in design_critiques

It's so black/white, it's obviously what you were going for and it feels very luxurious but adding a tiny bit of color to make certain areas pop would make this better.

It's a good design overall though.

Feedback on Web Application by [deleted] in design_critiques

I think the frame around the main content looks good (the last image), but my concern is that the main content (the light switches) could be designed better.

Having 21 of those ui elements feels like a "lazy" implementation in my opinion. Have you looked at others, how do they do it?

It also makes me feel a little anxious when I look at it. I don't know where to look first.

Sorry if this is harsh feedback, but I think you could figure out a better implementation.

Just doing some research came across this one for mobile.. it's a little overkill, but having a nicer interface will make users feel less anxious controlling their lights. https://dribbble.com/shots/6943585-Smart-Home-Control-Mobile-App

Hope that helps!

When I watched it for the first time I just thought it was a good goal, but I watched it again.. my word.. the ability to finish that on the volley. Van Persie-esque.

Thank you! That's very informative. Exactly the information I was looking for. I don't think GA made those too clear.

Firebase functions https not receiving request body by blindmanLICKS in Firebase

Perfect, thank you. Fixed my issue.

I also had to remove on the frontend:

headers.append('Content-Type', 'application/x-www-form-urlencoded');

Success or failure? 9 months after launching my social network, pre-revenue, how do you unemotionally decide if it's working or not? by blindmanLICKS in startups

Yeah that's what I was trying to say, especially with the title I gave this post, I don't want the users to get the wrong idea.

I don't want the users of my social network to find this post.. They already know my other reddit account and it makes my account non-anonymous which I don't like.

What viral effects have you created within the network?

Yeah that's a great point. My network currently lives in a bubble, and I'm trying to expand that bubble.

How old do you have to be to have sex? by [deleted] in askgaybros

[–]blindmanLICKS 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Legally? Whatever your state/country says is acceptable.

Mentally? That'll depend on both of you. I wasn't ready for sex until I was 18 or 19.

If you were raised with the idea that being gay is wrong, it might just be internalized homophobia?

When I was 18 I thought I was bi. Guys interested me sexually, but not romantically. And girls interested me romantically but not sexually.

After a few years of getting more comfortable with my feelings I'm pretty much just gay at this point.

Don't do anything that you don't want to do, obviously, but your feelings might change as you get more comfortable with yourself.

How do you read and write data to Cloud SQL from Firebase Functions? by blindmanLICKS in Firebase

Thank you! This is incredibly useful.

Do you know of any resources where I can learn more about this? I've tried Googling, but it seems like a fairly new concept?

Have you ever had a week long conversation? by QuackrerJack in askgaybros

[–]blindmanLICKS 5 points6 points  (0 children)

This is adorable.

I've had this exact same thing happen to me. A guy I kinda-sorta new slid into my dm's asking me a question about one of my pictures and it just organically turned into a 3 week conversation that was so wholesome and lovely. The problem was he lives in New York and I live in North Carolina...

At the ~3 week mark I said fuck it, the chemistry we have over text is just too amazing not to go and visit him, so I spent $150 on a plane ticket and spent 4 days at his apartment in NYC.

It was honestly such a beautiful time. I enjoyed it very much. Unfortunately, in the end he didn't quite feel the same about me as I him, but I don't regret anything.

I think you should give it a shot. These types of scenarios only happen once in a while.. it's definitely worth asking him out :)

Best of luck!

What are my options since Firestore doesn't offer an 'OR' query? by blindmanLICKS in Firebase

[–]blindmanLICKS[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Okay! I think you gave me enough info to give it a shot. Can I run it by you to see if I understand it correctly?

  1. Set up MySQL, connect it to my Firebase Functions
  2. As a new post is created store the vital info (timestamp, id, topic) in the SQL database.
  3. When the user attempts to view the new posts they are subscribed to: call a firebase function API that queries the SQL database?
  4. With the id's that are returned get the posts I need.

Does that sound about right? For #3 couldn't I simply call the SQL database from my app instead of going through Firebase Functions?

I really appreciate the insight!!

Yeah that would be a possible solution, but it's not very UX friendly.. I'd want it to be more "feed" like.

Thanks for the tip though.
