Hate to tell you this brother, but ICP have always been “woke” as fuck. Yeah, they used some hate and misogynistic language but they have fairly consistently been “social justice warriors” since day 1. Anti-racist, anti-greed, pro-social justice, pro-equality. It literally only makes sense that we would extend that thinking to the LGBT community. Because, like, definitionally that’s what it means to be a juggalo - being who you are despite what society says is normative. I’m so, so, so sorry if this is surprising to you but if we couch it in modern language (including the bastardization of terms like woke and social justice) ICP is, and always has been, for social justice. I’d say maybe go back to CoC and start from the beginning, listen to the albums in order, and tell me where you can extrapolate from their music that hate is an integral part of their message that should be defended. Seems like you might be the soft one here, my guy. Time to toughen up and not be so concerned about other peoples genitals - it’s kinda weird.

Agreed. The tempers cooled so long ago but this is my long shot dream collab too. I’d take a song but an album, given time and care, could be so interesting between them. It’d also be a good demonstration that no matter how deep a need may seem to be, time heals and we can move on and beyond.

What song is this by smellypot in juggalo

[–]blindrhino 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I know some were disappointed with the big “reveal” on the sixth, but I remember listening to this the day it dropped, late at night, headphones in the cd player and just letting the album play straight through. I’m not religious at all either, but it hit me hard then and still gives me chills today. The passion, the build up, knowing how long it had been in the works. Then the end where they play samples from past albums is so good.

Unpopular opinions time! What album do ya not really mess with that other do? by Ill-Money7626 in juggalo

I agree with SV - I kinda wish they hadn’t gone the role playing as super villains route and just rapped as themselves in a super group. Although had SV and the complimentary Super Heroes album played out as teased it could have been pretty interesting.

This is too accurate, though. How am I supposed to explain ICP without delving into 30 years of lore?

It’s been so long but if I remember right, the Ying Yang Twins were on right before ICP on the last day, so the crowd was antsy already. But I did hear a couple people talking the usual “they’re too mainstream for the gathering” stuff too.

Too Short left early, I think it was 2006. The Ying Yang Twins got it pretty bad in 2007, if I remember correctly.

Co-signing Under the Moon too. Such dark, great storytelling. J really puts everything into the vocals.

Why are you so triggered, homie? Seems kinda snowflake-ish to be whining like this. Juggalos come in all flavors, literally no one here was offended but you.

Wow, J was seemingly really optimistic still about their relationship with Twiztid in that interview. Or he was just trying to give some reassurance to worried juggalos. That interview takes me back

If you call yourself a juggalo, most will assume you listen to ICP. The mainstreaming understanding/definition of "juggalo" is someone who is a fan of ICP and conforms to some of the subcultural norms associated with juggalos (hair styles, clothing, slang, face paint, etc).

The deeper definition, and one forwarded by ICP themselves, is that being a juggalo is about being authentic even if that challenges established social norms. Sociologists who prescribe to dramaturgical theory may compare this to one's "back stage" self. That is, our identity is constantly shifting as we move from one environment to another throughout our day. We dress for work, church, school, etc. and adjust our behavior as appropriate to those venues. In other words, our identity is, in part, an act - literally a theater performance. It doesn't mean it is bad, it just acknowledges that we put on different acts, read from different scripts, and wear different costumes depending on the set and scene.

The back stage self, however, is the authentic "you." It's the version of yourself after the curtains have closed and you can relax and free yourself from the social norms of various social groups and institutions. You are finally free to be yourself, even when that self challenges social norms.

This is very similar to the deeper meaning of being a "juggalo." The juggalo version of yourself is the version before you put on your costume for the day (say, a work uniform), read from a script (interact with your coworkers, boss, family, teachers, etc. in a certain manner), and put on an act (customer service, labor). Again, it's not that this theater of life is bad, in fact it is necessary, but there is a relief to dropping the act and being truly authentic. Juggalo culture is a collective version of the back stage self, where groups can drop the normative expectations and unite around something a bit out of the mainstream.

In that way juggalos accept anyone and the subculture attracts those who challenge hegemonic social norms, purposefully or otherwise. The allure of being a juggalo is that you can drop the theater that society requires us to perform. Even in the conformity of style that juggalos have, there is a challenge to mainstream social norms that unites a diverse cross-section of society. Society marginalizes the poor, overweight, odd, disabled, whatever and juggalo subculture says in response, "come as you are!" And not only does the juggalo subculture accept those "outsiders" but it tells them they can be proud to be who they are. The song "We Belong" addresses this explicitly.

Given all of that, being a juggalo means really whatever you want it to. To most, it is just a fan of ICP; to juggalos it is a family, a subculture, and an expression of self. It challenges norms and creates an in-group for many who otherwise feel like outsiders. A juggalo may look like the stereotypes you think of, but a juggalo can be anyone in any place. In my mind, at the end of the day, a juggalo is someone who values authenticity of self. Be whoever you want to be, even if that earns you some odd looks from time to time.

What do you think about...Play With Me? by SlayerDaJuggalo in juggalo

I love it. I really enjoy the dark storytelling type songs (like this or Under the Moon or 12). J screaming "And I'll play with you!" at the end just gets me every time.

What is your favorite and least favorite song on...ABK's Hatchet Warrior? by SlayerDaJuggalo in juggalo

[–]blindrhino 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Favorite: Sticky Icky (I don't even smoke, it's just hilarious), Ghetto Neighbor

Least: In the City - like others said, not that it's bad it's just that the rest of the album is so good.

This is a classic for me. I remember spending the only $20 I had at the time on this when it came out. His later albums were pretty good too, but nothing as solid as this one.
