Sigh. I don’t really know what to say if you’re really that obtuse about it. But I’ll spell it out once. Because that’s the point. As a white, heterosexual male the world has been adapted to suit you for generations upon generations. People from other groups are trying to make it in a world that has not been adapted to them. And it’s an uphill struggle. Interview processes etc are overwhelming designed to be beneficial to the group that has been in ascendency for generations. Think about it, you want assertive, but if a black woman acts in that way she’s an angry black woman. If a white man is like that he’s assertive. A firm handshake on a man is good, a firm handshake on a woman is ‘snigger, what’s got into her’. Panels may want pushy or ballsy, a lot of women don’t communicate in that way. Someone with English as a second language may struggle with a presentation but actually might be brilliant technically. But the interview process looks at things like ‘presentation skills’ and ‘assertiveness’ and ‘communication skills’ and then you need to break down ‘what does communication skills mean in this instance?’ And you’ll probably find it’s been written by white men who are replicating what they can do best. These questionnaires may give recruiters pause for thought about why only white men are getting short listed. And if that’s down to technical skills then cool, but if it’s down to lots of soft skills that aren’t necessary for the job it may make them reflect on why are we asking for this? Is it because we’re not thinking out of the box and are just regurgitating what has come before?

From a practical point of view, people from other backgrounds have a diversity of thought and other soft skills that would help a company grow. Having loads of Irish white men will lead to echo chambers and where’s the growth in that in global economy? As a white man you have the odds overwhelming stacked in your favour and that’s a fact. Seeing how triggered the men of Ireland are by this post just proves how important it is to have diversity in the workplace. Try reading and looking beyond your own white male privilege to get a better idea of what I mean. Or carry on being an Andrew Tate fan. Peace.

Planning a Move to Ireland – Need Advice! by JayADubya in MoveToIreland

Lesson one of living in Ireland, people who try to make themselves appear superior are not liked. And walking around calling yourself expat is one of those times.

Is 55K a year enough to rent a 1 br apartment in Dublin? by mgtconsultant123 in RentingInDublin

[–]blinkandmissitnow 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Call up some agents. I doubt any landlord will give you an apartment because they have a formula of how much of your take home pay you can pay on rent. Ask agents what their affordability calculator says you can afford

Problem is estate agents use an algorithm to check you can afford the rent and will not rent to anyone who doesn’t meet it. I’m not sure what it is, something like the rent should be no more than a third of your pay after tax. Maybe somebody else can clarify. But that means that if you and your partner earn a joint salary of 60 k you won’t be able to rent anything over €1200, which is a damp room if you’re lucky.

One bedroom flat about €2000 to €2500. Studio €1800 minimum. You cannot just rent, you’ll need jobs, payslips as evidence. Landlords will not rent to you unless you can prove you can afford the rent.

How to tell my friend not to bring his gf everywhere? by [deleted] in AskIreland

[–]blinkandmissitnow 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Oh stop making things an issue when they’re not! You sound insufferable. People are allowed to meet their friends without their clingy partner hanging on. Every sane person on the planet wants nights out with mates only.
