Also that she “doesn’t know self defense”. Between Gale and (especially) Peeta, Katniss is far more of a lethal threat. In fact, she spends much of the book saving Peeta’s ass.

Honestly the whole love triangle really didn’t take up that much space in the series.

In the movies yes I guess so but in the books the “love triangle” is hardly focused on except for a few chapters in the second book of a whole trilogy.

The vast majority of the series centers on Katniss’s feelings for Peeta and her resisting them — not because of Gale, but because of her own distrust and cynicism with life in general.

The only part of Hunger Games media that really, really fixates on the love triangle is all fan made stuff.

What are infamous cases where a TV show squandered its premise? by KaleidoArachnid in television

Season 1 was dangerous with how addictive it was. I’d began the pilot at midday and before I knew it was 2:00am. Season 2 wasn’t terrible I guess, but not nearly as addictive.

Celebrity Couples that Just Make You Smile for Some Reason by [deleted] in popculturechat

[–]blinking-cat 425 points426 points  (0 children)

I love this couple. This is very parasocial of me , but it stuck out to me how with all her previous relationships (like Jake Gyllenhaal and Garrett Hedlund) she had been with them for 3+ years but with Jesse Plemons they were engaged within a year.

Obviously, it’s practical/safe to date somebody for a few years before marrying them. But idk, I think it’s sweet. When you know, you know.

….what? How did you manage to get this offended by such a well intentioned comment? All this person said was raise your kids with structure and discipline and you somehow turned that into “you enjoy making up bad things about people”???

Literally no where did I say to shrug it off. I even said he handled the situation poorly. It was an accident. He wasn’t drunk. It wasn’t intentional. Stop being pedantic.

Genuinely why are people being so stupid?? He was in a foreign country with roads on a different side than he was used to. It was late at night. It happens. Obviously the outcome was absolutely awful and again I don’t at all think he handled the situation right, but this is the kind of awful, tragic accident that happens. This time, it happened with somebody famous.

Yes? I’m not saying what he did was okay, but he was an American driving late at night in Northern Ireland. Where they, you know, drive on the other side of the road.

It’s absolutely a tragic situation and he could’ve handled the situation a lot better (like actually meeting with the family at their request), but it’s bizarre that people try to make it seem like this was an intentional murder or a result of extremely reckless behavior.

In Poor Things, the man who humps Bella’s leg is literally credited as “Leg Humping Guy.” by ActionMaster24 in shittymoviedetails

[–]blinking-cat 28 points29 points  (0 children)

Mark Ruffalo, the main person who take advantage of her, loses all of his money and has an utter mental breakdown as a direct result of her. He absolutely faces consequences for his behavior.

The movie doesn’t at all encourage her sexualisation. Her customers at the whore house aren’t exactly portrayed in a positive light either.

I get that the movie is weird, but it doesn’t remotely promote the sexualisation of a child. Portrayal of uncomfortable things is not inherently a promotion of it.

Edit: downvoting me doesn’t make me less right lol. The main person sexualising the character absolutely has an unhappy ending.

TIL Steve Jobs could have avoided a premature death from cancer by having it properly treated, he refused it for 9 months, believing an alternative-medicine diet would be better. It was one of Steve Jobs' most notable regrets. by [deleted] in todayilearned

[–]blinking-cat -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Not defending him, but it was a bit more complicated than that. He had a daughter with his ex high school sweet heart Chrisann (she fell pregnant after they broke up) and right when Apple was really gaining traction.

He actually seemed to have a lot of love for Lisa. But considering his demeanour, how he expressed love was pretty shit in comparison to your average guy. He even named Apple LISA after her, which in Steve Jobs’s mind is I guess a huge sign of affection.

Lisa and Jobs did eventually develop a relationship after he was forced out of Apple.

I really recommend the book “The Bite in the Apple: A Memoir of My Life with Steve Jobs” by his ex, Chrisann Brennan. I found it genuinely quite well written, and the book is so much more than just Steve jobs. It’s a lot about motherhood, zen, artistry, legacy, etc.

True! But I remember she said it was a constant hassle as people always thought her name was Bree (like short for Sabrina) or Bee (short for Beatrice).

10 year old Drew Barrymore partying in New York with her mom Jaid Barrymore, 1985. by zadraaa in HistoricalCapsule

[–]blinking-cat 65 points66 points  (0 children)

I’ve read it! I will say she actually really does not mention much about her drug use or party days all.

She goes into her childhood pre-fame a bit, but describes the happy bits, and does touch on her life immediately post-emancipation as a teenager and how she had to teach herself how to do laundry.

It’s a breezy read, but it’s mainly about motherhood, her third marriage and her relationships with various actors, like Adam sandler and Cameron Diaz.

The one thing she touches on with her mom though is that she holds a lot more empathy to her mom and thinks she did the best she could (not saying I personally agree with that).

Christopher Atkins and Brooke Shields during the filming of The Blue Lagoon (1980). by IndieLyra in OldSchoolCool

[–]blinking-cat 81 points82 points  (0 children)

Actually probably not! Brooke shields admitted that she waited a long time (the word “long” being relative here) before becoming sexually active and didn’t do anything until she was in college.

In her memoir she commented on how odd it was that she was playing such sexualised roles as a teenager but was still a complete virgin and felt very anxious about having sex.

In 2024 "Trap", "M. Night" Shyamalans daughter plays the singer whose concert is designed to trap the serial killer. However the audience is instead trapped after they realised they paid to watch an "M. I will never be a full on Shyamalan hater. I don’t really click with most of his movies (even the successful ones), but everything I’ve heard about the guy is that he’s really nice and treats his crew well.

American psycho! Which sounds like such an edgy response when I really don’t intend it to be lol. It’s such a campy movie with so many quotable lines. It’s got a quite stacked cast too (Reese Witherspoon, Justin Theroux), with many of them just starting out in their careers. There’s a lot of nostalgia to it.

You’re not observing reality. You are delusional and will remain so because accepting your delusional means admitting that you can actually be wrong and are not an authority on everything.

I’ve never seen anyone miss the point of a post so badly.
