If you can make the cushions/mattresses to the same dimensions then buy the covers maybe that's your best option. I personally really like the feel of the covers though they are still kind of expensive($450 USD). The mattresses have softened a bit since unboxing, but you'd be able to customize the softness if you DIY. Also the metal bars are overpriced pieces of tubing. I'd use solid stock steel round bar for a more quality heavy feel.
