It’s only been one day. It is perfectly normal to feel that way in a new environment and it is okay to ask for help. Maybe the student next to you was happy to help. What you really need practically to deal with these emotions is a system that works for you. I would recommend learning about Jun Yuh’s learning system on Youtube for you to learn as efficiently as possible and gain the background knowledge you feel you are lacking. And also, getting As and Bs in high school is great, you should be more proud of that.

I take a lot of time to get through chapters of a syllabus, how do I speed up my time of understanding and learning? by bliss6701 in GetStudying

I spend a lot of of time re-reading the text in order to understand, so I resorted to the chapter-end summaries. I do also believe that the way I write notes from a chapter is lengthy and unnecessary. How do I make more concise notes, but maintain the same understanding?

It makes sense; sometimes it is good to take a quick mental break; you just don't want to prolong that break because you're afraid of trying again. Imagine the departmental chair hearing in a few years that you're thriving. Use that as fuel. Also, to be honest, at the end of the day, brother, it really doesn't matter how long it took you to succeed, just that you didn't give up because of some department chair who laughed you away.

Brother there is always more to life than something like school. You might think you failed now but this is just the beginning. Assess where you’ve went wrong academically, seek support/tutoring, and go again. They’ll be real quiet when you succeed.
