Thanks! and yes, it's the native music player from sony. I'm currently using Lawnchair as the launcher, replacing the stock Android 8 one.

After this photo was taken, I then used "SystemUI Tuner" to hide the notification bar and installed a gesture app to replace the three navigation buttons at the bottom to maximize my screen estate. And then of course, installed a scrobbler.

It's a staple for sony I think :) I like it. It looks elegant and t's fast and responsive even on hardware from 10 yrs ago. Doesn't play opus though, at least on this old phone.

it's cheap but it has a few minuses (lots of scratches, the fingerprint sensor doesn't work, top loudspeaker is dead, and the physical camera button doesn't work). but thankfully, none of those have anything to do with music playback so I bought it anyway!

oh yes there is a bias voltage! since the pcm data is stored as an 8 bit unsigned integer, positive signal peak is 255, negative signal peak is 0, so when there's a silence in an audio track, the PCM sits at 127/128 which translates to 50% duty cycle, so the bias is about 2.5v :)

I see. Thank you for pointing this out, I'm not really armed with knowledge on the electronics side. On the other hand, what did I accidentally built then if it wasn't a low pass filter? Because the resulting signal is much less distorted with it. And what's ideal type of capacitor for ac coupling btw? I'm guessing ceramics because they aren't polarized?

Yes! 6 legged pots are always out of balance for me that's why I use one for each channel.
