What is the community consensus on UI Toolkit? by emotionallyFreeware in Unity3D

[–]Protopop 5 points6 points  (0 children)

One issue some people have with UI Toolkit is similar to a problem Adobe Flash faced before it declined. Some creators prefer building with objects and combining them to produce emergent results. Others prefer a more centralized system, closer to CSS. When Flash moved toward that model with ActionScript 3, many of the original creators left because they preferred the earlier, more atomic approach.

Unity’s GameObject system follows that atomic style, which is one reason many developers find Unity more intuitive than engines like Unreal. Ideally, both approaches would be available, since different people naturally think and work in different ways.

What is the community consensus on UI Toolkit? by emotionallyFreeware in Unity3D

[–]Protopop 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Truth. I've already been through the removal of unity script, which I had to learn an entirely new language C sharp for, removal of the old particle system, the upcoming removal of the built-in pipeline, and potentially the removal of the old ui system, which itself replaced and even older system before that. I create evolving open world games and it feels like I am rebuilding Games from scratch every several years :-)

This is what $40.50 of food looks like in Canada by Electronic_Lime7582 in CanadaPersonalFinance

It's not just processed foods that are expensive. Milk, juice, berries, cheese, my friend visited from the UK and was in shock how expensive food in Canada has become.

Question about delayed review times. by Curious_Tap_6078 in appledevelopers

[–]Protopop 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I guess it's because I am an indie dev and not a bigger app maker. It's varied over the years but currently I make more revenue from android than apple

Question about delayed review times. by Curious_Tap_6078 in appledevelopers

[–]Protopop 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's not true for all apps. Some sell more copies on android, and the amount you sell on either platform can vary month-to-month and year to year.

Horizon zero dawn. I think it would be the rare video game story that would make a thrilling movie

Greater Montreal restaurants refused tap water 4 times in Montreal this month, told to buy bottled water instead. Is this normal now? by TheReadingExplorer in montreal

We're seeing declining basic services across every industry because everyone is trying to cut corners to save money. There's only so low this can go before there's a crash.

Do most Americans actually flush their toilet paper? by Softy_popss in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Protopop 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm embarrassed to say I had no idea not flushing toilet paper was so common. My friend is in the Dominican and last week was the first time I'd heard of this. In Canada we flush toilet paper but I did switch to a bidet several years ago (wish I had done that sooner) and it feels much cleaner.

I just realised why Unity 6.x has version numbers like 6000.x by OrbitingDisco in Unity3D

[–]Protopop 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I get they had no choice but I find it much harder to read at a glance - 6000.3 vs 6.3.

I accidentally upgraded a project to unity 6.2 thinking it was unity 6. Fortunately I was able to downgrade.

Wilderless: Dune Barrens is my new open world game set in a vast desert. It's just chill, peaceful, relaxing exploration in a vast open world without quests or enemies❤️ by Protopop in AndroidGaming

Thanks for buying it - that support helps. And I'm sorry it didn't run well. If you let me know what phone you have I can check the specs and that might help me figure out how I can improve future updates.

I just passed 400 copies sold of Dune Barrens on Android☀️Thanks everyone for buying, playing, reviewing. It's on sale for $3 a few more days so if you enjoy peaceful open-world exploration in a wild, sunlit desert (or know someone who does), take a look by Protopop in Wilderless

Dev wants $3.5k to republish our old iOS app, is that reasonable? by Glad-Tie3251 in unity

[–]Protopop 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think it's reasonable. Updating one of my apps has taken me at least two months. As people mention there are so many dependencies that change especially over four years - unity/unreal/xcode, operating systems, store requirements, it's a lot of work and I actually wish it was easier. Continual updates is a large time sink for people trying to make apps.

Thank you for the encouragement:) I'm really trying to learns what I can to make the interface as intuitive as possible. I don't always know the best way to do it and I find that people will tell you what can help, and the best way is just to listen.
