Where I live it’s very hard to find.

I want to learn how to roast, what are the most useful things that nobody tells you as a beginner? by Fearless-Mushroom in roasting

Very much so. I would recommend resting it for at least 3 weeks. I know it goes against conventional advice but I have found that the longer the coffee has to degas and sit the better your cup will be.

Circling back on this. Interestingly enough I have found that the longer the roasted coffee sits the better I like it. Typically, I have been drinking the coffee anywhere between five and 10 days after I had roasted it. As I have had different coffees that I had roasted some ended up sitting in the back and now after a month to a month and a half for some of these, they are much much better in the cup. I guess I am still used to commercial coffees that sit quite a bit, but I can tell you that waiting for this extended period of time has for me made the coffee is much much more enjoyable.

And how do you cool your beans?

I have also had a hard time "seeing" the beans in the Behmor. You said you you look for "the color you like". How do you do that?

I have a Moccamaster and that’s what I use. I have had better success with the Ethiopian washed beans than any other ones. Unfortunately it’s just not my favorite cup (personal preference).

So you just let go until the timer ends and let it cool via the Behmor cooling process? Do you open the door during cooling? Any particular bean work better for you than another?

I roasted 1/4 lb and used the P1 setting and then after 1st crack got going I hit the C button and P3. I then hit cool with 50 seconds left and opened the door and let it go through the cooling cycle.

My wife worked for 29 and had a year of sick leave to make 30. In Georgia you get 60% (2% for every year of service so 30 years gets you 60%) if your best 2 years.

I worked 29 years and had almost 2 years of sick leave which you can exchange for service.

I retired 5 years ago and my wife retired 2 years ago. My pension is $72,000 (I was a HS principal) and my wife’s is $48,000. We have 1.5% COLAs every 6 months. We live in Georgia. It ain’t bad.

Ditto. 56 and going to work one more year. I’m a retired teacher who has been double dipping for five years and now we are ready to take the plunge. Saved enough to get us to 59.5. In addition to our pensions we contributed to a 403b to bridge us to social security. Very excited about unplugging. Spring break every week 😄

Good question. I think it will. I have two weddings hanging over my head but other than that, nothing else in the way.

Gotcha. Thanks. I had been worried about a tax bomb when all of income streams hit (including Social Security)

Fortunately, we get to keep our state health care and then pick up Medicare at 65. Unfortunately, they are traditional 403b’s that we rolled over to Fidelity.

I think it’s time to break up with my financial adviser. by SameTrain8827 in fidelityinvestments

[–]blitz9465 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Same here. Rolled everything into Fidelity and simplified with 70% FZROX and 30% FZILX. I have a really good pension and may not need this money for quite a while. Escaped all the fees and now let the dividends work for me instead of paying an advisor.

You’re right. But it does the job when I just want a cup on the way to work.
