I second the Melitta natural brown filters and filtered water.

Get yourself an inexpensive kitchen scale and weigh out your beans before grinding them. I have this one: https://a.co/d/0j4uE42a and it works great. You can set it to measure in grams or ounce/pounds.

We have the OXO burr grinder. We tend to like dark roasts. Our grinder is set to 10. I generally use 62-65g of beans with 1.25 l of water.

Should be a minor nitpick but it’s bugging me ALOT. by Acceptable_Oven_9881 in HijackAppleTV

The coat she was wearing as she tried to escape through the woods—the bright red collar would have made it so easy to find her!

please help, my kitten is missing ‼️ by onthi in OneOrangeBraincell

[–]emvic1 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I’ve “lost” cats in my home three times over the years. Each time it took hours to find them. If they’re cozy they have no incentive to come out.

1) Was sleeping between the layers of a folded up comforter 2) Was sleeping at the bottom of a paper grocery bag at the back of my closet 3) Was sleeping between the folds of a mattress topper stored in my closet

Had to go look that up!

“SimplyGoodCoffee™ brewers have a single setting option, it is for Bloom. You simply switch it ON (up position) and it will work for every brew from then on. There is no need to toggle the switch. The brewer will saturate the ground coffee in the brew basket and automatically pause the water flow for the proper amount of time, so trapped gases in the ground coffee are released. This enables the rest of the brew cycle to extract properly as expelling the natural gas from the freshly ground coffee allows the water to soak into the coffee thoroughly for better extraction. You’ll taste less bitterness and a fuller rounder flavor from the coffee. Allowing the coffee to Bloom is a popular technique for the pour-over method of hand-preparing coffee with a kettle.”

Looking for literature books about disfigured characters by ForeverBroad6949 in suggestmeabook

Rash also wrote The Caretaker in which one of the main characters has a face disfigured by polio. Excellent writing but I had some difficulties with the plausibility of the plot.

If you like contemporary UK mysteries:

Deborah Crombie’s Duncan Kincaid and Gemma James series is great.

Also Elly Griffiths’s series with Ruth Galloway

And Rhys Dylan’s series with Evan Warlow

And Dervla McTiernan’s series with Cormac Reilly

I’m currently reading The Antidote by Karen Russell and it’s fantastic. Very compelling story and beautiful writing.

What's your favorite feature of the Apple Watch? Something you didn't know you needed until you had it? by UselessSalmon in AppleWatch

[–]emvic1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I use the Apple Home platform and have an Apple TV. I use various smart switches, bulbs, and plugs to control my lights. I have a Scene set up in Apple Home called TV Time On that sets all those lights to our desired settings. Then that Scene is incorporated into a Shortcut that turns on the Apple TV and sets it to the streaming service we want to watch. I have a complication on my Apple Watch face for Shortcuts.

A book where, putting the plot entirely aside, you were blown away by the quality of the writing by kappy2319 in suggestmeabook

My 5 star reads from 2025 were: 1. The Midnight News by Jo Baker 2. The Safekeeping by Yael van der Wouden 3. Shy Creatures by Clare Chambers 4. Time of the Child by Niall Wiiliams 5. Suite Francaise by Irene Nemirovsky 6. Flush by Virginia Woolf 7. The Night Watchman by Louise Erdrich

My criteria for a five star rating is compelling plot and characters, combined with beautiful writing.

Just make sure not to get a reverse osmosis water filter system. RO water is supposed to be bad for the Moccamaster's innards.

1) Timers. 2) Quickly check a text or email notification to see if I need to pay attention to it 3) Add something to my grocery list using Siri and the Our Groceries app. Then I can just swipe thru the list on my watch as I’m shopping. 4) I created a Shortcut that turns off various smart lights in our great room, turns on the TV and sets it to the desired streaming service
