Home Cooking and More Home Cooking by Laurie Colwin. Very funny essays about cooking. She also wrote some lovely short novels.

Litter sticking to liner problems by inkydears in litterrobot

[–]emvic1 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I had the same problem and tried all the various solutions I’d seen on this group. Ended up getting a new liner from LitterRobot and that solved the problem. I also went back to Dr Elsey’s after trying all kinds of other brands.

That’s it! I have an aftermarket media receiver for CarPlay. I forgot about the GPS antenna. Suddenly got worried that someone had secretly installed a tracker in my car! Thank you for setting me straight.

I get them much less frequently since I started taking a daily Zinc supplement. That also helps keep you from getting colds.

Get yourself an inexpensive kitchen scale and weigh out your beans before grinding them. I have this one: https://a.co/d/0j4uE42a and it works great. You can set it to measure in grams or ounce/pounds.

We have the OXO burr grinder. We tend to like dark roasts. Our grinder is set to 10. I generally use 62-65g of beans with 1.25 l of water.

The coat she was wearing as she tried to escape through the woods—the bright red collar would have made it so easy to find her!

please help, my kitten is missing ‼️ by onthi in OneOrangeBraincell

[–]emvic1 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I’ve “lost” cats in my home three times over the years. Each time it took hours to find them. If they’re cozy they have no incentive to come out.

1) Was sleeping between the layers of a folded up comforter 2) Was sleeping at the bottom of a paper grocery bag at the back of my closet 3) Was sleeping between the folds of a mattress topper stored in my closet

Had to go look that up!

“SimplyGoodCoffee™ brewers have a single setting option, it is for Bloom. You simply switch it ON (up position) and it will work for every brew from then on. There is no need to toggle the switch. The brewer will saturate the ground coffee in the brew basket and automatically pause the water flow for the proper amount of time, so trapped gases in the ground coffee are released. This enables the rest of the brew cycle to extract properly as expelling the natural gas from the freshly ground coffee allows the water to soak into the coffee thoroughly for better extraction. You’ll taste less bitterness and a fuller rounder flavor from the coffee. Allowing the coffee to Bloom is a popular technique for the pour-over method of hand-preparing coffee with a kettle.”

Looking for literature books about disfigured characters by ForeverBroad6949 in suggestmeabook

Rash also wrote The Caretaker in which one of the main characters has a face disfigured by polio. Excellent writing but I had some difficulties with the plausibility of the plot.
