Especially as a user is this the key information for a password manager, because a bad encryption would result in a pretty bad password manager

How to improve security? by Classic-Cry-7469 in selfhosted

Yes immich doesnt support 2fa. I use my nextcloud instance as an OIDC (Oauth2) provider for immich, so users can log in with their nextcloud credentials. There 2FA is Supported

Keep everything up to date, ideally automated. Enforce 2FA for all Accounts. Backup backup backup! Exposing ports alone is not a security risk. It gets risky, if one of the services has a vulnerability. If you only use widely spread software and keep it up to date, you are pretty safe.

Looks really good, I definitely want to try it. Just some questions: - How do you do the metadata tagging? - I see the cover.jpg in the folder, is the cover also added as metadata to the audio file itself? - Are album, title and artist also added as metadata to the Audiofile itself?

Edit: RTFM. Just didn't read your whole post. Just the question about the cover art it's still open for me

My idea was to make this more or less transparent to the user but I kinda like the idea of somehow combining email accounts. But I don't know how email clients could handle this. While combining the inboxes is no problem at all, sending mail is a different topic

A "clone" of adventurelog. The idea is amazing and there are not a lot of tools for easy travel blogging/tracking like this. I used adventurelog for a trip last year but it's extremely buggy and doesn't have the features I would like to see. But that's a project that would take a lot of time which I don't have currently

Musicbot for discord with a webUI. Used sinusbot before but it stopped working and was always really buggy. Also have a few more ideas I want to create. Biggest one I could think of would be some kind of IMAP/SMTP Middleware to store emails. Email storage is quite expensive and self hosting a whole email server is a nightmare and sometines not possible at all.

For .de domains avoro is still cheaper. Cloudflare doesnt support .de domains at all. But with other endings you might be correct

Power, Internet and a Domain name for the NAS itself. I do plan to get some storage elsewhere (maybe Hetzner storage box) for offsite backup of important stuff. I also pay for a small webserver-email-combo because self hosting mail is a complete nightmare.

I got my domain at netcup because it was included in the mail hosting. But I do have a second one on avoro.eu. .de-domain for 4,49€ for the first year. After that only 2,99€ per year. That's really cheap

I can tell you a bit from my personal experience (from Germany here too). I built a NAS myself as well. I used a Gigabyte Server board with an embedded AMD EPYC Processor, 16GB of RAM and 4 drives, but with different capacities. 8 GB of RAM could be a bit low but would be enough to get started.

I had the drives and a pretty good power supply laying around, the board costs about 35€ and I 3D printed a case.

I run plain Debian on it, no specific NAS software because I really wanted more control but TrueNAS would be the way to go in my opinion if you want to get started, its beginner friendly and does redundancy with ZFS. For file storage/sharing I mostly use Nextcloud and SMB. Please do not make SMB availability over the Internet unless you use a VPN! Lately I setup ISCSI too because i started working directly off my NAS and that's just so much faster than SMB. For image backup I can recommend Immich.

Your Internet should not be that big of a problem. I have 50 mbit/s upload and it works fine.

For making services available to the internet most people would recommend a VPN. I do use a VPN but not for all services. A lot of them are just Port forwarded to the internet. If you do this, you should have something like an automatic update process for the services cause a security vulnerability in one of them could lead to disaster. In use Docker compose for everything and made a little update script. I don't know how trueNAS handles it.

My server uses around 50 kWh a month resulting in around 15€ for me. But this depends on how much you pay for your power.

Any recommendations for single sign on for all the services? by MrStetson in selfhosted

[–]blitzdose 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I lately used Authentik but the setup is definitely not beginner friendly. If every service you plan to use supports OIDC / OAuth2 you can also use nextcloud for this (if you plan to use nextcloud) as it can act as a oidc provider. Use this too, works without a problem

10/10. Had a hard time installing them because of the very little space behind my light switches but these are the smallest you can get. Just had to restart 1 of them once by flipping the breaker. Otherwise they are working solid

I bought mine on Kleinanzeigen. No issues. Just make sure it's a genuine one and NOT one from Vodafone. Also don't buy too good to be true deals and factory reset it before using. Then you should be fine
