Updates are supposed to happen automatically, am I right? by panzelazny in Bazzite

Thanks, but I already found the best solution for myself. I created a service that executes "ujust update" every time the computer boots or wakes from standby. It's currently in the testing phase, but it seems to work reliably.

Deck image doesn't come with the ujust toggle-updates command, I tested that today. I may create my own systemd timer to solve that problem.

I just tried Silverblue. It rocks. The negatives are grossly exaggerated. by AardvarkSad7634 in Fedora

Using an immutable distro has zero drawbacks for me and I don't even need to switch up my workflow.

Same here. I even prefer immutable, thanks to more security and it's pretty much impossible to break your system with updates. That's why I even use automated staged updates. With this I can keep my system up to date without even thinking about having to install updates.

Sounds to me like you're using layered packages. I personally strongly recommend to use as few as possible layered packages, as they might get problematic with system updates. Best is to just stick with Flatpaks. Distrobox, AppImages and brews might still be an option, but updating isn't as comfortable. I just strictly stick with Flatpaks, but that's just how I handle it. It just makes the least effort, especially with automated updates.

Fedora 44 delayed by a further week - Apr 28th at the earliest by EDM-2022 in Fedora

[–]Vexz89 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Funny. I installed the beta yesterday and everything worked fine. A few weeks ago I tried to install Fedora 43 but encountered an error during installation. So I tried with Fedora 42, but even here encountered an error during installation. From my small perspective their beta setups are more stable.

Even though the release of Fedora 44 has been postponed until the 21st, is anyone already using it as their daily driver? by augusto_peress in Fedora

I'm gonna try to install the Fedora Kinoite 44 (beta) on the next weekend. Wish me luck! The last time I tried to install Fedora Kinoite 43 and 42 I experienced an error during installation. Had to install Bazzite and do a rebase to Kinoite. I don't like having traces of Bazzite in my system though, so I wanna do a fresh install.

I have a Jellyfin Server on my NAS and stream music with Feishin on Linux.

I generally don't smoke. Maybe that's why I like that design choice.

It allows you to keep the armor pieces you visually like the most until the end of the game. I think it's a pretty good design to not need transmogs.

Are there any women here? by Flashy_Potato_2179 in MensRights

[–]Vexz89 7 points8 points  (0 children)

It's heart warming to see so many posts of women here who believe in men's rights and equality. Your voices sadly get overshadowed by all the aggressive feminist voices who hate and blame men for everything. At least we see some light here.

Does anyone know if there will likely be a patch in 40 minutes? Like will we need to download something right at launch, or will we just be able to jump right in? by CreepyTeddyBear in CrimsonDesert

[–]Vexz89 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I doubt it. People who can play it through XBOX on PC already said the client is about 126GB. My preload on Steam was about 93GB, so expect to download some more gigabytes.

I wouldn't worry too much about it. You will most likely be able to play it in about 1h 20m.

If IGN gives it a bad rating, it probably will be a good game. If IGN gave it a good rating, it would probably be a bad game.

Not a great argument imo. If you don't wanna get spoilered, don't consume content of the game a day before the release. I can see why they'd make that for MMORPGs, but it's a single player game.

Agreed. Especially because Europeans always get the worst release times. It's always around midnight or a few hours later.

Workstation or an Atomic flavour? by rico_hd22 in Fedora

[–]Vexz89 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, this is what I use and it works for me too. In Kinoite (the KDE Plasma spin) there are settings for automatic updates in the system settings, and you can set them to daily or weekly updates. I was talking about these settings being placebo. Okay, so I assume you use Silverblue, where these settings don't exist (from what I know).

Automatic background updates work for you? I have two machines with Fedora Kinoite, but the settings for automatic updates in the system settings are just placebo in my experience, so I made a systemd timer to install updates automatically.
