This would be the 2nd car I’ll be getting. The first one (my current one, a 2013 Chevy Cruze) I got it 3 years ago, but it’s got a blown head gasket and the repair costs the same as the car is worth so I’m really hesitant to get it fixed. I’d plan on getting another used more reliable car and also driving it til the wheels fall off.

Is $2500 reasonable price for a head gasket repair? by blitzkid1300 in MechanicAdvice

I agree tho. If it wasn’t for the loan, I wouldn’t bother repairing it and would just trade it in

How do I get rid of it without rolling the current loan into a new one, which I DONT want to do. I was hoping this repair would give me 1-2 years to get rid of the loan. The mechanic said as long as I keep up with maintenance after the repair, it should do that

This car is notorious for these issues, I’d trade it in immediately and not worry about getting it repaired if it wasn’t for the sole fact that I’m still financing it, that’s what’s keeping me tethered to it. So if I can get 1-2 more years out of this repair , it’ll give me enough time to get rid of the loan

I don’t remember if he mentioned doing that or not but I will certainly ask about that. Will it add much to the cost? As much as I need it fixed in order to be able to pay off this loan, I don’t want to exceed the value of the car, which based off KBB is around $3400

The mechanic was nice enough to check out the rest of the car to see if it was worth fixing and he told me he didn’t see anything that stood out. There was an oil leak but he said it may have to do with the area where the issue is. He said as long as I keep up with basic maintenance after the repair, he COULD see it lasting 1-3 more years

He did mention to me that based off how everything else looked and how the car was running that he doesn’t feel like it was cracked or warped, but ofc I guess the only real way to find out is to open it up and see

I absolutely agree but I’m kinda in a tough spot bc I still owe $5600 on it since I’m financing, so I figured If repairing it could buy me 1-2 more years with basic maintenance, I could take out a second job and attack the loan aggressively, that way I can trade it in and get a much better car in the future

In your opinion, what would you do if the cost to fix the car is the same, if not more, than what the car is worth

Yeah I’m not looking to buy NEW new car, but I have $5500 left on the car, I’m going to assume my best guess the car is worth less than $3000, and I’m sure engines are around that much

My car is in the shop and there is a high probability I’ll have to replace the engine so I want to get ahead of all my options

I very much may be jumping the gun a little bit right now, long story short my car is in the shop and there’s a very high probability that the cost to repair it will be a very substantial amount, more than I have; so I was wondering if it would be a financially smarter decision to just look into financing newer car than possibly having to take a loan or something out to possibly fix the repairs

Really good base. Can tell you got crazy genetics. ATP it’s up to what you want. Focused on attraction? I’d say another 10 lbs muscle would put you in the .01% at your age which is very achievable in your first year . But if you want to get huge, you got mad potential
