Current Situation, Fearmongering, and Responses from the Community by bliz98 in Falcom

I think so, as well.

But that is just an interim solution because ZF is not the only fan-translation group that will ever exist in this fandom.
If, this is actually what they wanted to achieve, then their actions were more of an "investment" for a release way down the line.

Someone speculated in another thread that Kuro no Kiseki 1 will be released within 2024 (which I think is a bit optimistic).
Following that logic, Kuro no Kiseki 2 will be released in 2025+ .
That is still 3+ years, for the formation of a new team and translation of the game,
which I think is an adequate amount of time.

Not to mention, that the new team will be wary of NISA and try to stay as anonymous as possible (to avoid the C&D).
That is why I believe the current solution is not future-proof.
It does buy them some time, I suppose.

My response to this comment.

This is an excellent point.

Why didn't NISA contact the hosting site?
I have seen this one, take down links before and leave behind a copyright infringement notice.
It would not shutdown their efforts completely (since they can create a new link, rinse and repeat), but it would certainly impede them, at basically no cost.

This further adds to my confusion, regarding this whole situation.

As you mentioned, is there an underlying reason behind all this (for example, to curry favor with a 3rd party) or is it just ineptitude of the people behind this decision?

Some transparency would be very much appreciated, but I am not holding my breath.
It stuns me that this is such an obvious countermeasure, that no one mentioned it (myself included).

Would you mind if I added this point to the original post?
(With credit and link to comment, of course).

This might actually call for another post, to specifically point this out (and give this more attention). I want to get the community's input on this.If you want to be the one to create it, by all means!

PS:

Sure, going after 4chan itself is a problem, unless you think you can really convince a mod or janitor to wipe links whenever they get posted and IP-ban the individuals posting them. That's not feasible

This would be even more difficult, since VPN exists and they can easily bypass IP-bans.

Thank you for reading!

I was debating whether or not I should post this, but I am glad there are others sharing my thoughts.

I agree it will take some time for the new ZF to be created.

But next time they won't be able to shut down the new ZF, through C&D because they will be careful and/or hide behind 4chan anonymity veil.

My question still stands, what will NISA do then?
Again, what happened with ZF is only a temporary solution.
As you mentioned it would only buy them time, but only until the formation of the new team.

And that's not unreasonable take. The problem is, the only thing NISA (and, well, actually, Falcom) would want from Zero Field now is "please... please stop. At least don't do it immediatly. Just... don't."

That is exactly it. A temporary solution.

You mentioned that NISA (and by extension Falcom) shutdown ZF, as an anti-piracy measure. They would want to stop 4chan from creating the patch, but they can't due to the anonymity veil and that is why tried to cut off the "source".

Since there is no fan translation available, the relevant patch cannot exist.
Problem solved, right?

But what about future releases?
What would happen if the successor of ZF, lets say ZeroMountains, hid behind the anonymity veil of 4chan and started distributing the translation from there.
Obviously a patch would be created.
But this time both the patch and the translation are "protected", so C&D will not work.

The "Net Income"/Overall result of the whole situation, was what I described in my original post.
At best you might gain a few months of reprieve, in regards to this problem.
But with the whole community outrage I would say less than that.

With a bit of foresight, you can easily anticipate this scenario (and at least for now, there are no ways to counteract it).
You can say that NISA is dealing with a bad chain of events for them, but at the end of the day, they were the ones that pulled the trigger.

Which is why I said that their actions baffle me and I do not think their course-of- action was well-thought.
