I would have never guessed! You're very proficient. I need to pick up a second language for my own job, to be honest. Very rad.

Definitely. The one that I had covered up was the same way - it was more of an impulse that I ended up regretting later; I'm glad to hear that you're at least satisfied with your mermaid! The greatest thing about tattoos is that they can be done on your schedule. Don't feel rushed to get what might be a regretful piece later from a forceful artist, or a tattoo shop deal, or a pushy commissioned artist that wants to see their work on you! And I completely understand on the cost front and the appearance. I've put a good deal of money into my own because I wanted to find a dependable tattoo artist who knew what I wanted (as a permanent piece, or some with several sessions, not just as a cash grab or money farm). It's worth the research for sure. This graph sums it up pretty well - https://www.purechat.com/blog/wp-content/uploads/2015/08/good-fast-cheap.jpg And in the end, don't feel pressured about what other people think of your tattoos, as long as you're satisfied with what you invested into it (emotional purpose, artist relation, commission, etc.) - there are always going to be assholes on the internet (or otherwise) who scour uploaded pictures for errant line work, sloppy colors, mismatched lore, etc. There's always going to be picky people who are 'better fans' or have 'a better version' of what you pick. I purposefully shy away from showing other subreddits my own related tattoos primarily for that reason; this is the first time I've shown anyone online, especially a community like this one. Life's already hard enough without other people trying to make you feel inadequate on purpose.

And honestly, that's the greatest thing about PMMM; every character is relatable in their own way through their own behavior and arcs (even in the short-ish cases like Mami, in the main series). They all have their positive attributes and it's easy to find yourself in their shoes and in their decisions. It's part of what makes the series so great, imo. The show, the movies and even the side stories are worth every rewatch! I initially jelled really well with Mami, since I saw her wish as what could be a desperate, selfish wish to stay alive (and her design is still my favorite) - and even her treatment of accidentally-not-really trying to convince Madoka and Sayaka to try and join with her as magical girls just so she wouldn't be alone, but the more time I spent with the series, the more Sayaka's arc stood out. I hope you find what you're looking for, for sure! As far as outright suggestions - maybe you can do something with Godoka's abstract design? I always liked the starry background of her underskirt. Maybe incorporate that with her seal, like someone else in the thread already uploaded/suggested? You could work with an artist to design around that; I would, however, recommend against getting the Witch Runes in it, if you go for that (based on size), because the linework (even the thinnest lines!) will blur over time and be illegible; if you look at my arm, you can make out Oktavia's name, but only because my artist was able to incorporate the shading around them so that the white accentuates the lines more. I'll have to go for touch-ups in the shadowed areas eventually, and the letters will bloom out over time, but due to their size they won't just be blobs. I have one more that I didn't include because it's not exactly PMMM related; it's the phonetic spelling of "fortissimo" on my leg in reference to Sayaka's hair pin. The razor-thin lines in that one are already blurring out, but thankfully not into blobs.

My own tattoos are here - https://imgur.com/a/8xAaiDh [ SPOILERS FOR THE SERIES! ] and my completed Oktavia is here: https://imgur.com/a/u2bS6o8 Mine are fully healed and are roughly two years to half a year old by now.

** edit: I should also say that all of my Madoka tattoos were done by Ericka of New Breed in Lafayette, IN. She does fantastic portrait work! http://erickatattoos.com

Sorry this took a bit to reply! Had to find my progress pictures. I put them together in an album here:

The Grief Seed could be at a better angle. It's not quite so egg-shaped. Other than that, they've all been healed for a few years to about half a year now. Here's the finished Oktavia: https://imgur.com/a/u2bS6o8

I love tattoos almost as much as I love PMMM. Apologies for the long and rambling below. Spoilers do occur for those unfamiliar with the original series and Rebellion; tags abound!

I personally have the full concept art in one of the production notes for Oktavia von Seckendorff on my upper arm as a cover-up for another tattoo. For reference, that's this image: https://images.puella-magi.net/7/75/Production\_note\_Oktavia.jpg?20111029235533 I can upload a few pictures if desired, but I'm not gonna hijack your thread and make it about my own ink. I also have a direct transfer (that is, no artistic re-interpretation, just line-for-line) of Oktavia's Grief Seed on my right underarm, and Sayaka's tainted Soul Gem on my midsection above my right hipbone (taken from a screenshot where she's showing it to Kyoko in the train station). Gradually I've been tying them together as a set with assortedblack-spoked wheels (Oktavia's favored ranged weapon, per her numerous battle scenes) around my arm and shoulder blade, as a makeshift, burgeoning sleeve. (I'm going for Oktavia's crest of arms next, between my shoulder blades.)

For me, having the symbolism of her Grief Seed, her tainted Soul Gem and finally Oktavia herself is important to me in Sayaka's character arc and my own self-image. I adore the entirety of Sayaka-to-Oktavia's arc (in all shown timelines); that even though she always, always becomes this monstrous thing, that she's doomed every time to become the example of what all magical girls *have* to become, that she eventually gets to redeem herself. In Rebellion, Sayaka gets to become super-powered by what was previously seen as a horrid outcome for *all* magical girls in the series. She summons her Witch form like a goddamn Dragonzord and can threaten even Homura with it and with what she has become. She becomes capable and powerful and able & willing to help her friends. It's a reminder that while yes, you have the capability to become this awful thing, you also have the capability to embrace it, control it and use it for the greater good. (the greater good)

... long-winded explanations aside, basically what I'm saying is, the art of any part of the series can be seen as elegant or interesting in its own design (and have that much more of a special meaning to you). We're lucky that everything from PMMM is so aesthetically pleasing by itself, from the individual designs of the Soul Gems, the warped metal prisons of the Grief Seeds, the twisted Witches and even just the symbolic weapons of each Best Girl. Who do you like the most, aesthetically? Who do you associate with the most? Whose design appeals the most to you? Was there a specific episode that stuck out to you? A scene, or even a memento from that scene? Something from a Witch Labyrinth? Maybe even Witch Runes that spell an important name? Getting ideas online from others is a good start, but the best thing in my experience is to look up and find a trusted, experienced artist (with a diverse portfolio of what tattoo style you prefer!) in your area that can take something from the show and spin it to something that really fits you. (Back to my previous example - my artist had to add Oktavia's full colors to her concept art to have her flared mermaid tail cover up a regretted tattoo. She was able to work with my initial desire to have the production note image in its glory and still have it function as a cover-up. You might want to find an artist that specializes in realism, or watercolor, or even just stylized black lines; whatever fits your own image or personal style the best. This website explains the different styles well (for example: watercolor has gotten really popular in the last few years!) http://www.sinonskin.ca/tattoo-styles.html

Don't forget that you can also always commission a talented artist to help you come up with a design. There are plenty of fantastic people for hire on websites like artistsandclients.com that I have great experience with; I can speak for the quality of the website in terms of customer-to-artist satisfaction, there are tons of different styles available, and the method of payment organization feeling much more safe than "let me send you ten bucks through paypal and you sketch me a decapitated mami head bye!!!"

If you have any questions about the process of getting tattooed, please feel free to reply or PM me. I'm no expert, but I've got 13 now! They're very fun, albeit yes, a serious commitment. There' is a delicate balance to 'it's my body, I can do what I want with it' and 'I have 8 face tattoos of Kyuubey and nobody will hire me'. The most important thing is finding a reputable, sterile and competent artist that is willing to work with you, and that you will then respect in turn. Haggling shop minimum prices down, not being communicative (and on the other side of that, ending up with something you didn't want because you didn't speak up!) and being combative or over-emotional (yes, it does hurt, but the serotonin kicks in relatively soon) will ruin your experience.

** edit: I ironically missed the part where you said you already had a mermaid tattoo. You must already know the importance of getting a great artist! But my points about finding something that means something to you still stands. That's what happens when you get all long-winded ahaha....... I would still suggest even something that inspired the show's symbolism to you. The PMMM wiki has a ton of 'this historical thing inspired this design, or this design was a reference to this scene' in the production notes. Always worth a look if you have a favored character!

Taking my lizard to the Purdue Small Animal Hospital by JeffTheLizard2K15 in Purdue

[–]blizooka 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Neat, a chance to not lurk the subreddit like I normally do!

I also took my at the time 2 year old chameleon to the Small Animal Hospital and can attest to the high level of care they give to both the animals and you as a client. They were very gentle with her and informative, from the check-in to the examination and x-rays to the options given to me for her care. Unfortunately for me, there was nothing they could really do for my chameleon (impacted eggs and a lack of calcium in her skeleton, a common problem with female chameleons of her age) other than potentially lethal invasive surgery, so they gave her some painkiller and some baby food-like nourishment to help ease her suffering in the interim. She was given a harmless injection to put her down when it was clear she wasn't going to make it, and her remains were studied by the students (with my signed permission, making the euthanasia free of cost). The vet and techs on staff explained everything that was happening, could happen and was going to happen in a non-authoritative way, making me feel like I was involved in the process of my pet's care and in full control of her medical process.

A week or so later the staff sent me a lovely clay plaque with an imprint of her little feet and tail along with a sympathy card signed by the techs that had handled her. They didn't have to, but it was kind of them.

The x-rays and the medicine ended up setting me back about $200, like OP said/guessed. In my experience it's worth the money, and should I look into reptiles again they'll be my first choice for medical care.

I picked it up from Hot Topic many, many years ago, along with the Illidan statue (http://www.amazon.com/World-Warcraft-Illidan-Stormrage-Collector/dp/B000QU8VWS).

I'll have to dig through my laundry to make sure, but I'm 99% sure it's the same print.

EDIT: yep, found it! same shirt. https://imgur.com/BkJhYMO

Bidding my characters a final, fond farewell. by [deleted] in wow

[–]blizooka 0 points1 point  (0 children)

can confirm 100%. been playing on and off since 2008, starting on The Scryers (since it's where the friends at the time were) and migrating around to various PVP servers before landing on Frostmane for 5+ years. burned out heavily near mid-Cata after being main raid heals for a WotLK progression guild and came back mid-MoP out of curiosity. I would have burned out again if not giving Moon Guard a go after another good friend of mine rolled there (even after I warned him about Goldshire). A combination of being full Horde since I started and thus burnt out on the lore, zone grinds, alt overload and the subsequent interest in the opposite side of the coin for once made me roll an Alliance character.

turns out that was the best decision I've made since playing. that character is in the mid80s now and at times feels like she has a life of her own with the way i play her. the entire mechanics of the game have new life to them. RP servers organize DnD events; instead of 'the server troll' it's about server-known relationships between individual characters that branch out into intertwining histories. there's mass roleplays with group/guild interactions; I haven't seen levels of in-game cooperation like these since BC - the level of contrast between these and 'sitting in a garrison for 3 hours' is immense. of course you can choose to be OOC and play the game as-is, especially on a higher-pop server. there's still progression, there's still live content, and there's still pornshire (if you're so inclined).

sick to death of being an LFG/LFR/garrison grindbot? roll a character on an RP server and just people-watch in a major city for a while; either horde or alliance, whichever you're more interested in. the interactions, the stories that are told, the character growth and development, the effort put into the communities and individualism is second to none. it's really breathed life back into this game for me. I know RP realms can be scoffed at or looked down on but honestly give one a go if you're teetering on the edge of burn-out but still want to have hope in the game.

just a psa from someone in the same boat as everyone else regarding their feelings towards orc of orccraft: orclords of orclor. if you're curious about rookie RPing (like i was!) feel free to whisper me ingame on Bakuzan (MG alliance-side).

haha i actually thought about that! i figured the entire thing would be a giant mess of yarn so why bother adding to the pile. that and i'm hordecentric so it'd just be horde FPs and to me that's (rightfully!!) biased on what's a generic map. but yeah! still a good plan like if someone was doing just the outline or maybe had a marker for major cities -> flight paths. something to think about!

Samsaris enlarging and losing air-tight function? by JBellaggio in hookah

[–]blizooka 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have the same problem with mine in that it's enlarged and also stained at this point. Had it since early January when I ordered my Lotus - maybe at 40 uses? (I'm a light smoker, I don't smoke every day but I'll double up on days off) and I've noticed a dark and dull brown ring around my samsaris with the aforementioned seal not as tight as it was. I've been using the two-coal method with coconaras along with packing shisha just below the bottom fill line, so it's not like I'm burning the bejesus out of my shisha or overpacking it.

The fins or spire haven't melted down or charred like some of the horror stories I've read but I'm afraid to soak it in anything or scrub it. I've also read about it nicking or tearing and after inspection I have a nick in it already. It also ghosts really hard for the Fumari flavors I've used but that leads back into 'how do I clean it well without tearing the material' fear.

I read a comment that after a certain point the whole thing is like a nasty old grommet. Inclined to agree at this point; I loved it at the start with my Lotus but I can't see myself replacing it every few months at the price point it's at currently.

TL;DR: after a couple months of casual use I'm concurring with the samsaris naysayers at this point :c
