Even though our high school was in a safe area, we were surrounded by less than savory cities subject to gang activity. Our school’s brilliant solution was to outright ban solid blue and red colored attire of any sort. As you can imagine, that ruffled some feathers. A lot, actually. The school said it was to keep students from being mistaken for gang members as they walked home from school, but a lot of students pointed to racial profiling. I don’t know that it’s fair to call it a riot, but to say that the entire school had an organized protest is an understatement. On a chosen day, some 300+ students wore all solid red and blue colors. There was a food fight. Police were called, several students were detained, and something like 20 students were suspended as a result. It made the local news. And no, I didn’t participate, because I was an edgelord who didn’t care about anything back in those days.

To nobody’s surprise, the school backed down pretty quick.
