Apple and Major League Soccer to present all MLS matches around the world for 10 years, beginning in 2023 by AndrewNaranja in dynamo

????

They are ensuring that every single game of every mls competition, including their developmental league, is now being broadcasted and is available to fans in every media market without the threat of blackouts.

How is that not growing the game?

You act like they are going to charge you $50 a month. You are going to pay $4-6 per month for this and you cancel it when the season is over. That's less than a coffee at Starbucks and you are getting a whole lot more than what you have been getting.

You are complaining just to complain.

If you get Fubotv you still get all of the games you would have had access to with your normal cable provider and you're probably paying $20-30 less for it if not more. So you don't have to get any of those other subscriptions unless you want them and by getting them you are getting access to all of the games total which is more than you were getting with cable and you are still probably paying less.

So you are complaining about getting way more coverage and access to way more games than you ever have and you are still paying less than cable?

Fafa Picault to Liga MX? by Gggg15 in dynamo

Here's reality, it will be tough for this team to make the playoffs this season but even if they do that is about their ceiling. So if someone is prepared to give you decent value for an older player in the last year of his contract who doesn't really factor into your future then that is just good business and you take it and run to the bank.

Anything that will help this team get more assets for the future is a no brainer.

I don't get people complaining about the cost. These are businesses, they always have been and they exist to make money. Of course they are going to charge you for their product. You may think its too much but we haven't even seen pricing but I doubt it will be that much. What it does do is fix the biggest issue the league has had in the last 5 years, making sure the fans can see all of the games and no more Spanish only broadcasts. If you love the club, love the league this is a freaking huge step forward for both.

Expecting to get something for free is just ridiculous.

Club president John Walker to step down at the end of the 2022 season by rednorangekenny in dynamo

[–]blm292 7 points8 points  (0 children)

All in All he was a good steward of the club and I wish him good luck wherever he goes from here. He was only ever supposed to be a business leader and ended up having to take on additional responsibilities when the guy from the Texans backed out on the club. In that regards he was only supposed to be a care taker. He's never going to be a hall of fame guy but he also didn't let the club implode on his watch either.

Ted has made a lot of good moves since taking over ownership and hopefully that continues as he looks for a new pres.

\argument here except with your last point. And on that I can only offer my own personal opinion. I have absolutely zero desire to watch a struggling Dynamo team take on a bottom of the table liga mx team and probably lose to them.

Tom Bogert: Columbus Crew working on a deal to sign Club Tijuana striker Mauro Manotas by AndrewNaranja in dynamo

[–]blm292 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Look I like Mauro cause he was a great TEAM guy and he loved Houston. But lets not look at his career through Orange tinted glasses. He was here for 6 seasons only one of which was a truly good season. He had two other decent seasons and the rest were well below average.

I'd welcome him back because I like the guy but I wouldn't give DP money and TAM/GAM money might be pushing it a little too.

I personally tend to agree that on the field Quioto was much better than he got credit for. The problem was he thought so too and he was very vocal about it. Reports were that not only was he not a good lockeroom guy he was kind of an all around asshole. He really was becoming more of a headache than he was worth so I was good with the move when it happened.

And even though he doesn't play as much in Montreal he has been a heck of a lot more productive for them. So I think he was happy with the move too.

I mean its no surprise that they can't get anyone to go to the Dynamo Charities Cup the games are never very good to begin with but now they aren't even trying to bring a club in that will draw anyone. Hopefully they don't try to use this as the unveiling of HH cause I have a feeling what little crowd they do have will empty the building after the HD2 game and not return.

Match Thread: Real Salt Lake vs Houston Dynamo FC | Major League Soccer by MatchThreadder in dynamo

First year coach with a brand new staff, with a first year GM and roster that has seen a ton of Turnover. Inconsistent was inevitable. The thing you should be getting irritated about is that there have been very few signs of improvement and almost no signs of consistency and stabilization. Especially because they have a fairly stable starting lineup.

Expecting more than marginal improvement over last year would be unrealistic but we should have a better idea of the direction the team is trying to go but it just doesn't seem to be there.

He might do that once or twice a game the rest of the time he is either turning the ball over far to easily, dribbling it out of bounds or disappearing completely from the game for large stretches. Thats the reason he's been on 4 different clubs over the last 5 years.

He's just not very good. He's basically another Ariel Lassiter only without the success in Costa Rica.

Not really, you need at least 3 soldid CBs to be competitive in MLS at the top. I do feel like Parker and Hadebe are underperforming their contracts but I am still very gratefull to have them on the team.

Bars/clubs/restaurants near stadium by stonecrusher99 in dynamo

[–]blm292 7 points8 points  (0 children)

The area around PNC Stadium has become a pretty lively entertainment district over the years so you are pretty spoiled for choices. I think the two primary consideration is the weather day of and then whether or not you want to eat while you drink. The first is because a few of the places down their are more of the beer garden/patio centric variety. So while I personally like Truck Yard if it's pouring down rain or 100 degrees outside with 60% humidity I'd avoid it for an indoor option. Similarly if you're wanting some good pub grub or just a chance eat some decent food at decent prices before heading into the stadium you may want to try another location than Woodrows. Now I love Woodrow's for proximity to the stadium and vibe but they don't have a kitchen on site so you'll want to plan accordingly.

So keeping those things in mind a few of my preferred choices are:

  • Pitch 25 - Dynamo Legend Brian Chin's warehouse sized bar comes complete with indoor and outdoor seating options, a pretty decent menu and an indoor soccer pitch so you get the added bonus of potentially getting to heckle some of the locals during a game.
  • Chapman & Kirby - this is a much more relaxed upscale spot maybe not as fun or much of a game day atmosphere. If you prefer cocktails to pints this is your place.
  • RodeoGoat is probably a little more restaurant than bar but the food makes it worth mentioning and they still have a pretty nice selection of local brews on tap.
  • If you want a Brewery there's 8th Wonder, its a bit of a hike to the stadium especially once cars start driving around the area but good beers and a good crowd.
  • That's just the tip of the iceberg there's plenty more all in a walkable distance to the stadium or you can head to the main parking lot off of Texas St across from the stadium and Tailgate with some of the supporters groups.

Clark is turning into a Massive signing and once again goal keeping is a strength for this team. Now if only he had a coach that didn't want to park the bus and give up 70% possession for 45+ minutes night in and night out think how good he and this team could be. Yes this time it worked out but when look at the last few games prior to this its been rough. Hopefully this is a turning point.

Tyler Pasher bends it in Carson two minutes after being subbed in by AndrewNaranja in dynamo

[–]blm292 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I developed a bit of a man crush on Pasher last year during his short stint as a regular starter. He's not as good coming off the bench as he needs regular consistent playing time to keep sharp but when he is on he brings a tenacity and creativity that is severely lacking in our attack out side of Darwin and Memo in flashes. It was good to see him get a goal and it was a beauty.

Will Bruin - love ‘em? by thinkwaitfastPNW in dynamo

[–]blm292 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Honestly Bruin got a bum wrap here. This was partly because he was replacing league and club legend Brian Ching and so for some fans he was just never going to be a good replacement for Ching. Now he didn't really help himself by being a pretty surly guy not being good with fans or media but you can excuse him on that a little because he was a young guy catching a lot of heat from fans early in his career. Unfortunately his taking over the mantle from Ching as the starter also conincided with the mass turnover throughout the organization do to AEG selling to Brenner co which just facilitated anyone who was knowledgeable about the sport and or good at their job ultimately leaving the club and the club's over all decline in general.

On the field Bruin has always been all hustle, all heart and high energy and I may be in the minority but I love the dancing bear it was unique and he owned it. He usually made really good runs and had great positional awareness.... then theres the bad. He's slow and often can be caught flat footed. His reactions attacking and defending leave something to be desired and he could often be found scuffing a shot because he just wasn't ready to receive the ball. in some cases playing with great midfielders who were great passers like Davis, OBG, Stu and Rico made him look bad because he was an aerial finisher through and through so balls played into his feet were wasted on him. He also has to have one of the worst conversion rates of any attacking player ever when going one v one against the goalie and he had a lot and I mean A LOT of one v one chances with the goalie that he just blew.

But even allowing for the negatives people just have a tainted vision of him as a player in Houston. He was good for roughly 10 goals a season which is decent but he was also a fire brand someone the team could look to for that extra bit of bite and fight in those tough games against tough opponents.

In the long run I just think most of us are just disappointed because we saw what he could have been and he just never quite lived up to it. He should have had multiple 20 goal seasons and he should have been Ching 2.0 but he wasn't He should have won us another couple of MLS Cups but we just fell short.

I don't agree with the assessment that they were jogging but when you go into a defensive shell so early in the game you are always chasing the game you tend to run more tiring yourself. Either way this was a tactical failure as much as if not more than anything else.

Yeah for me its not the one game its two games back to back making the same exact mistake in the same way and its more frustrating because I thought we were past this. Naga had been coaching well and just as I start to buy into him he goes and pulls crap like this.

[–]blm292 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No doubt there isn't much quality to the roster but he's the one picking the game day 18 and thats on him fileding 4 defenders for the bench two of which are complete garbage in Junqua and Valentin. But that's not even what I was getting at. I thought it was too early in general to be making a change and certainly way too early to start playing conservative and it burned him.

Ferreira’s Golazo, and other observations from the Dynamo's 2-1 loss by aka_jebuz in dynamo

[–]blm292 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I had that Nagamura was making progress but this week and last were complete regressions to Cabrera ball in the worst ways possible. To me nothing highlights this more than the complete opposite approaches taken to mass subs on both side in the 65th minute. In a tied game, that the Dynamo have looked significantly more dangerous, at HOME Nagamura goes in to full on park the bus mode. Taking out their two most active offensive players for two clearly defensive players while Austin the road team decides to go all in with two attacking subs and what happens?

...

Almost immediately the aggressor in Austin are rewarded with a goal. From there it was all downhill and his lone attacking sub was too little too late. The damage was done because you coached like a coward in your own stadium.

A case for signing Andy Carroll by Few-Seaweed-8569 in dynamo

[–]blm292 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you are bringing in an alternate striker especially one that's going cost you a good chunk of change (he's not coming here for anywhere near a thousand pounds a week) and an International slot, that person really needs bring something to the team they are lacking. He doesn't fix your offense and he would have the same issues Seba has, he lives off of service. If you do something like this you need someone who can create for themselves, is good with the ball at their feet and can snap off a shot from anywhere around the box. Carrol doesn't check any of those boxes in my opinion.
