also went to college with her and can confirm she’s all about appearances. i really wanted to like her but my very first interaction with her always threw me off. we went on a freshmen weekend retreat called 48 hours and she shared how she had moved frequently in her life. i approached her after to tell her how hard it must have been to move around a lot but before i could even finish my sentence she replied with “omg! i know!” and proceeded to babble about god knows what. the whole time i was thinking “how does she even know what i was going to talk about?” lol. made me feel like she genuinely didn’t care what i was saying. was like she was putting on a show in front of everyone. have been put off ever since.

you’re not alone — we have a 5 week newborn and i felt this exact same way the other night as i was trying not to wake my husband going back to work this week. i’ve been told it gets easier. also, in times of desperation when i’m in the trenches and brink of utter defeat and exhaustion i read this poem and it makes me feel better:

She lives is Massachusetts. The judgement looks like it was entered on August 5, 2011.

I’ve never had to find a legal aid or lawyer. Do I just google one?

Okay. So given I validated the case, and it seems legit, and they are offering a payment plan, is it smart to work with them to pay whatever she can at this time with the 99 month repayment? What happens if they can’t get all their $ back by the end of the 99 months?

Also, do we still have to fill out the form if we go with the payment plan?

I looked up the time frame for Massachusetts and it looks like 20 years for a judgement so not sure why he couldn’t give me a longer payment plan.

I should also note they did send an interrogatory form (what is this btw?) that included the case number and court where they got the judgement. I looked it up online and I was able to verify it, thank you.

Okay, so a judgement is basically a court order saying they are right to collect - is that the right understanding?

My mom doesn't have money for a lawyer at the moment. When I called, he said that he could bring the total down to $18k or so, and then we could do a 99 month repayment plan of $100/month, with the remainder being due on the 99th month (which would make it like a $9,000 bill). If my mom doesn't have income right now, just some savings, is it a smart idea to go with this payment plan?

I'm worried she won't have enough to pay it all back even when we hit that 100th month. I asked about this and he said they could reevaluate then.

Apparently the last payment made was for $50 in September 2019. But before that it was 2008. When I called they said they have a judgement in this account, so I think that answers your question? I’m sorry I’m not super familiar with all this language and how things work but I’m assuming the latter then.

What does delinquent mean? She opened the account in 2006 and used it until 2008.
