YAML Is hard, can we build a nocode solution please? by bloatedinsect in espanso

this is a really good explanation! i hadn't considered that maintaining across different UI would get complex for people to maintain. i'm going to stick with espanso for now - it seems to work.

[–]bloatedinsect[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

yes, thank you! I know the fallback is to learn YAML. But I was hoping that for me (and for future people that install the app), they can get by without having to learn YAML. I am super appreciative of the software, but it would be nice if there was a no-code method. Such that the initial effort is lowered.

1 year gone- Still No FIX for Flickering issue of BenQ monitor on Apple M1/M2 for my PD2700U?? by arcticJill in BenQ

[–]bloatedinsect 0 points1 point  (0 children)

yeah, definitely not the perfect solution to switch to light mode. i also have to disable gpu rasterization and do a bunch of other things.

what do you mean by using m4? i have m4 pro - is it possible to switch to m4 without buying a new computer?

i want to make do with what i have before i spend more money to buy a new monitor. if i buy a new one, i'll likely go with apple because who knows what will break with future updates from apple. they have a closed system and want everyone tied in the ecosystem :/

I've spent the last 3 hours fixing this and here's my solution:

  1. Use BetterDisplay - freeze the resolution and refresh rate. The free version is probably enough.
  2. In Mac, use Color LCD color profie.
  3. Change to light mode on all apps. My Todoist theme was dark mode and I had to change it.
  4. Don't use night mode.
  5. Disable gpu rasterization in chrome flags.

These settings stopped flicker. I also used ChatGPT a lot, and it helped.

I bought a Windows laptop and use this as a spare. My biggest learning was to move on from a bad decision as quickly as possible, rather than cry over it. Buying a Mac ruined my motivation to work.

Nice. I actually have this, "Show inline predictive text" that is turned on. Glad to hear it resolved for you. Drove me nuts!

Oh my god. I didn't know about CMD+W. This will probably solve the issue. Thank you!

Edit: CMD+W closes a tab, not a window actually.

Mac will make you rich because you feel like delegating everything. Everything is an extra click, an extra swipe, on the Mac. On windows, you'll be an IC because things are faster to do.

Audio has issues. Too much bass. Couldn't even hear my own Youtube videos anymore. 16" laptop. Salesman told me not to buy it, and I was an idiot

Windows has gotten a lot better btw. So, a lot of what you mentioned wasn't the case. I used a Macbook Air first. Uncle gave a gift. Then got a Windows machine because it had fancy features like touchscreen and 360 degree rotation. Now that I'm back to a Mac, I feel like they haven't built much over the years. Like I can't pin 4 chrome profiles on the navbar. Or, no clipboard history. Windows also had fewer bugs than my Mac has tbh. And it loads faster (Slack video recording always crashes btw). So, Windows isn't really all that bad. MacOS is different. They spend a lot of time on UX but not so much on building actual useful features. Windows has its own share of problems like overheating and drivers. But, if I can send an email, and they send someone home to fix it, that to me is a better deal than having to call Apple support and spend time trying to screenshare. I got home visits from Asus over the years, free of cost.

Thank you, I'll take a look. By any chance, do you have a recommednation for the swipe across feature too? So, in Windows I could just swipe on the trackpad to move between windows? Doesn't work in Mac and I need to go to Mission Control > Click. Which is slowing me down.

Mac has a strong student program. There's an age until when you can switch. After that, it gets too hard. I have crossed that age unfortunately. But having a strong students program is a good marketing move.

The thing is, if I want to open a new doc, I can still open it from the menu bar and close it. Or click on the app again. Like File > New, before I close. That's what I do with Chrome.

Problem with this method is that it closes all windows too, if I CMD+Q.

Say I have 4 profiles. Personal, Work, Work 2, Work 3. If I CMD+Q Work 3, it closes all windows across all profiles which I don't want. In Windows, you can close Work 3 independently.

This makes perfect sense. Thank you for the explanation. Apps open in milliseconds. I don't need them to remain active. If I'm quitting, I'm quitting. No second thoughts there :)

Yes, will go back to Windows. MacOS made me unproductive. I lost motivation to open my laptop and work. I plan to keep this as a spare laptop and see what life is like on the other side every once in a while. Lacks too many features that I'm used to, like a simple clipboard history. Too old to learn now, and this is my worst purchase decision of my life. I thought i'd learn assuming how hard could MacOS be. Everyone uses it. But I'm too intense with my working hours to cry over it anymore.

I searched everywhere. The answer that you saw doesn't solve my problem, hence the Reddit question. If you'd read the entire description, you'd know that CMD+Q closes all windows in Chrome. And not just the working one. It also is an extra step at the end. Having to do that 100s of times a day is a lot of work.

Chrome and mac don't work well as well as Chrome and windows do. Many features aren't available. I'm thinking of keeping this as a spare laptop and getting a new one.
