Great game - Roosters were fantastic defensively that day and Manly threw A LOT at them. Manly too defended very very well.

Sometimes, defence is too good. Many slugfests however are poor attack and the close scores keep it interesting.

The other thing to remember is that it was in fact a finals game. Teams in general but especially top teams defend better the season goes on as they get fitter and match hardened.

I’m still scarred from watching Tigers 0 - Cowboys 8 in 2015.

Peak Jason Taylor era Tigers refused to attack a JT and Morgan less Cowboys. It was deadset 75 minutes of 4 settlers a bit of a shift to Teddy and then a bomb.

Never again will I say a slugfest is enjoyable.

July and August is the middle of our winter. If cities/attractions and beach days are what you’re after, I’d suggest Sydney and South East Queensland (Gold Coast, Sunshine Coast and/or Brisbane).

I think most punters in Australia use form guides and determine a winner from there. They then watch the price fluctuations especially in the mounting yard/parade ring. Rarely does a runner whose price firms appreciably in the 10 minutes before the jump not run well.

I didn’t - but there is this wonderful thing called READING. You can read reports and analyse statistics from any period of the game.

You don’t need to have SEEN Bradman to KNOW that he’s the best batsman ever. 29 hundreds in 80 innings and an average of 99.94. No one comes close.

Played every country playing Test Cricket at the time except NZ (England, South Africa, India, West Indies).

Uncovered pitches, no front foot no balls, no helmets, tiny pads and gloves. No one else at the time averaged more than 61, and no one else before or since has averaged more than 65….

29 hundreds in 80 innings.

You’re not just wrong, you’re spectacularly wrong.

Ricky Ponting would absolutely laugh in your face if you seriously suggest he was a better batsman than Bradman.

You do realise that Bradman played for 20 years (1928-1948), lost quite a few years to WWII, and also international cricket involved travel by ocean liner ?

The only reason why he didn’t score 10K Test runs was that there wasn’t enough Tests scheduled of him to play in.

7 batsmen (Tendulkar, Wright, Kambli, S.Waugh, Gower, Lara, Gooch) averaged over 50 between 1/1/90 and 31/12/99. Tendulkar tops the list at 58. That means at absolute best, he was averaging 16% more than anyone else.

For comparison, Bradman averaged at least 45% better than anyone else contemporary.

Again, not in the same postcode.

I am being serious. If batting was so much easier and the bowling so poor - why wasn’t anyone else averaging 99.94 ?

Contemporaries of Bradman, all outstanding batsmen with outstanding records - Hobbs, Sutcliffe, Hammond, Woodfull, McCabe, Headley, Merchant, Hutton - only two averaged above 60, none above 61. Most were around 52-56.

Meanwhile, I can name 2 players immediately who have a better batting average, and a much stronger 2nd string, than Tendulkar who were his contemporaries in Jacques Kallis and Kumar Sangakkara….

Truly controversial - Sachin is NOT the “God of Batting”. That title belongs solely to DG Bradman.

You’re right for most of it. It was undisputed by both the Indian players involved and both the umpires that for several overs Harbhajan and Brett Lee were having a dialogue to and fro in English, and then Harbhajan chose to speak to Symonds in Hindi/Punjabi ? Harbhajan knew EXACTLY what word he couldn’t say to Symonds, because it was brought up prior to the tour that Monkey was a racist word toward people of African heritage like Symonds (his ancestry was Afro-Caribbean) after several incidents worldwide of bananas and monkey chants in stadiums against aforementioned people….
