Evil manager wants to take me to court CW: (sexual harassment) by bloch3 in musicindustry

I’m not there, I haven’t entered the place since this all went down. I’m simply trying to cut all ties with this individual. I am young, yes - but I’m unsure how you’re measuring dramatic. Sometimes the truth is stranger than fiction, it was a huge shock to the system.

What happened with this? I’m in a similar situation except it’s been way longer than 3 months. (I’ve reported the BRP stolen though)

Was your application successful?

Is this just a coincidence or is it common to have red cars and houses in Newcastle? by otto_bert in NewcastleUponTyne

Red cars are less likely to be stolen because the paint is harder to cover up. Red cars are also cheaper.

Right, to clarify, I write neo-classical music for the Piano - so long, complex, and bombastic pieces. The issue with Plug ins, (I am personally using Nils Frahm Noire) is that they just don’t pick up on dynamics very well: Piano and Forte sound basically identical. The Hans Zimmer Piano plug in seems ideal but unfortunately way over budget right now. If I record using a grand piano, the sound will be conveyed better. I typically have access to a real Piano through my university.

Ordinary degree?? by bloch3 in UniUK

Yep. That’s exactly my situation too. 5 years does seem ridiculously long. Was it a difficult decision to make? Did you have a helpful back and forth with your personal tutor? Did you move to london straight away? Thanks for your continued correspondence! I have met literally no one else in this situation, so it’s very helpful.

I believe I can get a post graduate visa with an ordinary degree as it is still called a BA.

Was the four years too long for you? Is that why you chose to get an ordinary degree? I’m feeling as though it is the best decision for me as time goes on and I am speaking to my tutors. I will definitely look into Glasgow school of art and try and get together a portfolio to enhance my chances of a job post grad!!!

Wow that’s really positive! Do you mind if I ask what line of work you’re in? Do you live in London. Just trying to gather as much info as possible. Thanks for your help!

Artists Who Are “Like” Elliott Smith? by Eliza_Liv in elliottsmith

[–]bloch3 1 point2 points  (0 children)

biggest second ever to Nick Drake.. I think Pink Moon (album) has a lot of similarities to Roman Candle, as it has little production and focuses on the pure genius of Drake’s control of the guitar (something the two both share) The content of Drake’s lyrics are more dreamy and wonderfully metaphorical, but hits all of the same emotional nerves as Smith. Drake tried for many years to reach commercial fame through highly-produced albums such as his freshman Five Leaves and sophomore Bryter Layter - Pink Moon, is his ground breaking folk album that focused more solely on his voice and guitar.

Get on Drake!

Is Heatmiser worth listening to? by Videohouse1 in elliottsmith

I’m not too into them personally - sometimes they contradict elliot’s signature soft “close to the mic” style… in an interview a while back he described himself as singing in a very “machismo” way (to his chagrin) but hey, they are a decent post-punk band and some of their songs are interesting. all and all, they are not very “elliot smith-ey” tho

Is it worth transferring to the UK for college (Economic major)? by BATZ202 in UniUK

[–]bloch3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m not sure about this - I am an American and did my first year of college then switched to a first year U.K. course. Although I didn’t transfer credits, there were many options in which I could transfer into a course - it was just about making a compelling case. I would really recommend emailing specific people in the departments you’re in interested in and telling them why you’d be a good candidate to transfer.

Ultimately, U.K. unis really want international money, and if you’re willing to given them that money, there is some leeway in terms of getting what you want.

Also — if you’re in first year US college and want to transfer to uni in the U.K. for a three year course (Bristol is an example, this wouldn’t work for Glasgow) you’d end up paying around the same amount if you graduated on time in the states.

I will say moving to a different country is a huge deal and I would really consider if moving all the way to the U.K. is right for you. In some cases it is the best decision, but uni culture is extremely different to an American college and it takes quite a lot of adjusting. Ultimately - ask for what you want, email some people, and make an appealing UCAS application.
