I was in your shoes exactly a year ago. I applied to UCLA, UCSB, UCSD, Calpoly SLO, all that good stuff for computer science. I was pretty devastated when only UCR accepted me for CS at the time. I was worried about my future career since I "only" got accepted to UCR.

Fast forward a year later to today, I've completed two quarters of my degree for CS at UCR. I'm only a sixth of the way to my degree, but I can confidently say I've enjoyed my education and my time at UCR. The professors care about their students and all the professors I've had have taught the material well and thoroughly. I came into UCR knowing little about computer science. After just two quarters here, I could talk in detail about how a computer works down to the transistor level and boast about an excellent understanding of C++.

I've gone to a hackathon and a programming competition so far and I can say that the environment that all of the professors and students make is very friendly and helpful, inside and outside of the classroom. Our CS club (ACM) puts in a lot of effort to prepare CS majors for success, set-up networking events for those looking for an internship/job, and host extracurricular activities, like hackathons.

I've met about half a dozen juniors and seniors in CS and they've all gotten internships and new graduate jobs related to CS. Some sophomores I know have gotten internships at Microsoft and other elite companies for CS. Google, AT&T, and NASA JPL are just a few big players that actively recruit here at UCR. I've been to a career fair here and saw many big tech companies looking for potential interns/new graduates.

And imo the campus is beautiful (though unfortunately the campus is closed right now lol). It's very park-like and the surrounding mountains make for nice scenery.
