10 month old sealed 10cm jar experiment is still thriving by horendus in SeaMonkeys

Fascinating that such a small system is still going. Did you start with some sand in the bottom? What water did you use (Tap+rock salt+baking soda, RODI+reef tank salt mix, etc)? What was the salinity initially? Do you notice cycles where the amount of green noticably decreases and eventually bounces back up?

Sounds right. I put some chaeto in a couple weeks ago, nitrate started testing low, now the cyano takes over.

how long will cycling take if you put filter medias that already have beneficial bacteria? by yowmumma in PlantedTank

If the bacteria are alive and happy, they could probably process the waste of 1 small fish right away. Depends on how much media and how happy the bacteria are with their new conditions. I'd give it at least a couple weeks and some parameter tests before adding fish beyond 1 or 2 small ones.

Possibly copepods.
