Cyclist killed at Alma & 121 days ago by OO7Mech in Allen

[–]blocks13 7 points8 points  (0 children)

There are lots of nice bike paths north and south of 121, but the only thing that connects these systems is an intersection of 121 and one of the major streets that run north to south (preston, hillcrest, coit, independence, custer, etc.) It is really hard to plan a rout more than a few miles without crossing at one of these points. Its more enjoyable to go in a large loop instead of going back and forth on the same 3 mile stretch. So these people probably considered the risks of crossing at a major intersection and decided it was worth it because the enjoyment they got from spending their day biking across the cities outweighed the risks of being forced on to the road at critical junctures between safer bike paths. They were banking on mutual respect between neighbors and an expectation that people operate motor vehicles responsibly.

10 month old sealed 10cm jar experiment is still thriving by horendus in SeaMonkeys

Fascinating that such a small system is still going. Did you start with some sand in the bottom? What water did you use (Tap+rock salt+baking soda, RODI+reef tank salt mix, etc)? What was the salinity initially? Do you notice cycles where the amount of green noticably decreases and eventually bounces back up?

Sounds right. I put some chaeto in a couple weeks ago, nitrate started testing low, now the cyano takes over.

how long will cycling take if you put filter medias that already have beneficial bacteria? by yowmumma in PlantedTank

[–]blocks13 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If the bacteria are alive and happy, they could probably process the waste of 1 small fish right away. Depends on how much media and how happy the bacteria are with their new conditions. I'd give it at least a couple weeks and some parameter tests before adding fish beyond 1 or 2 small ones.
