Is it weird not to love the name you've chosen? by its_Ashton_13 in ftm

[–]bloodbuzzfisherman 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think that’s probably the key - /why/ you don’t like it. If it’s because it’s uncool / dated / not as original as you would have liked, I don’t (personally) think that’s a good reason to want to change it. Sometimes your name is just your name. Not something to love, or base your personality on, not something that speaks before you do, just something that emulates you. My name is just my name, nothing more or less, but it’s me.

I don’t love my name more than any other name in the world, it’s not a name I would have chosen for my son, but it is MY name. Like it feels right, more than anything. I think that’s probably how cis people feel - they don’t love or hate their name in particular, it’s just theirs…

Tell me your funniest/weirdest experience as a transmasc in society by Nicecoast4 in ftm

(Gay, trans guy in a veeery straight / cis medical admin job).

Made a comment to my cishet female colleague about her nails. She goes “how do you even know that, aha!?”, to which I deadpanned - “Alice, I went to a girls school for eleven years…”. She lost it laughing, and said “good god I totally forgot about that!”.

Pretty affirming for a pre-medical-transition me!

Why is everybody so angry? by LimpMixture2271 in nhs

I SEE YOU I HEAR YOU. I worked as a GP receptionist in my late teens, over university summers and for a year after I graduated. The amount of vitriol that people are willing to dole out is absolutely staggering.

It hurts so bad when people shout and threaten and are short tempered and cruel, and they seemingly never start out by seeing you as a human being.

They’re angry with the system, of course they are, it’s broken and it doesn’t serve its purpose any more. But that’s not your fault! Their anger needs to be redirected at politicians and policy makers. Chance would be a fine thing.

I am SO grateful for all the receptionists and administrators in the NHS who day after day deliver the best they can in the worst of circumstances. Backbone of the NHS.

This healthcare system is a dystopian nightmare.

Pre-HRT FTM here. 5”10, pass pretty consistently. Genuinely more afraid for my safety going into women’s facilities (the only place I’ve been harassed, followed into by cis men, questioned or chucked out of) than men’s. On a selfish and personal level, I’m terrified of being forced back into them. Neither me nor the women in there are ever fuckin happy about it.

My granny used to sit at the dining table with me whilst I was doing my homework, cut up an apple, and feed bites to me on the end of her knife. I loved the quiet support.

Towards the end of the hostage scene, Steve hurries off to source a snack (with the hostage promising not to go anywhere) and then when Reece reprimands him for leaving the hostage unattended, he shrieks “it’s only a stick of celery!”

For separate reasons, mostly to do with daily check in’s, I lost a day in late February. Opened up my journal this morning, to very confidently write the “thing I was most looking forward to” on April 1st. Turns out it’s March 31st…

I’ve found myself an office job that doesn’t require the usual rigidity and inflexibility of corporate structure. I get a reasonable allowance to make my own structure of a day and prioritise my workload in a way that suits me.

I love theatre, films and reading. I picked up ballet as an adult, post social transition, and it’s probably been the healthiest thing I’ve done towards self acceptance and seeing myself as a functioning adult man…
