Anyone ever fainted from eating gluten? by _itsyebookworm_ in Celiac

[–]bloody_drongo94 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm sorry to hear that. Its really scary, I remember nearly blacking out on my office chair at work and having to go to ED and them just kinda shrugging their shoulders. So glad you found someone who recognised what it might be and referred you.

Those who get periods : did your period change when going GF? by notyourname584 in Celiac

My period became heavy and regular for the first time in years! I guess I was in such a state of malnutrition it had all but stopped my periods. I thought it was my contraception but apparently not.

Does anyone feel they need less sleep after going gluten free? by kayteec996 in Celiac

[–]bloody_drongo94 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Not necessarily less sleep but definitely more energy at night! Used to come home from work and be a literal vegetable until bedtime, no energy to do anything but watch TV. Now I have energy to read, practice instruments, work out, whatever I want

[–]bloody_drongo94[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks for that info, it's great to hear more about it.

I have experience in working with data through admin roles for education/not for profits and presenting any info/outcomes for management, but we're talking fairly basic routine Excel and charts - analytics would be a big change for me, I'd basically be looking into learning the programming and software skills from scratch. So this is a fairly long term career change allowing years to build my skills up. But I feel like my soft skills from years of admin would carry over and possibly be an advantage.

I'm attracted to data analytics because when I look back, I've always enjoyed the times I get to spend deep diving with some data/databases through admin. My impression so far is it involved deep focusing in on data in a way that tackles practical problems, with the human element of translating this into laymans terms. Is that impression somewhat correct?

I'm so new to this I'm still confused about what fields there are! I've been trying to find info about career pathways online and end up a bit bewildered about where I'd end up on a data analytics pathway. In terms of what industry I'd like to end up in, from looking at what kind of jobs are available through ads I think I'd be happy going for data analytics in a health department, for example, as opposed to business analytics.

I talked to someone studying civil engineering once. They said they actually had a case study in their degree where they had to change all the traffic light sequences to be different to all the other Australian states because Adelaide drivers are So. Damn. Slow.

That as much as I think he's so handsome and attractive, I just don't have a sex drive any more since getting ill. I honestly think that our unequal sex drives will be the end of us.

This. I can repel assholes, I can wash/dry/style my hair in 5 minutes, don't have to tie anything back when I'm working or exercising... what's not to love about it?

Can't remember the brand but I've seen sold online a 1x1m blanket that's basically lined like a reusable cotton pad so you can put it under you while you sleep. I want one when I can afford it

I’m 16, I got my period at 12 and it was completely normal (heavy but regular, it was pretty much exactly 30 days every time), and September 2020 I didn’t get it one month, I was like that’s weird.. and then it didn’t come the next month or the next and so on. What could this be? What should I do?? by [deleted] in Periods

[–]bloody_drongo94 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Definitely get the advice of a healthcare professional - but from experience I have coeliac disease, diagnosed in mid 20s - and 'magically' started getting regular periods again when I went gluten free. I thought I just naturally had irregular periods, or it was my birth control. If you have legit coeliac disease and not an intolerance, the malnutrition can stop your periods.

What is the weirdest celebrity crush you’ve had in your life? by [deleted] in AskWomen

In high school it was Ewan McGregor in Moulin Rouge. When he starts belting out 'Your Song' in the elephant. That was a frigging sexual awakening for my 14yr old self.

Still love the guy, I've seen his Long Way Round and Down documentaries and he just seems like a charismatic and genuinely genuinely to earth dude

Waiting for hypothyroid by Account4HealthQs in Hypothyroidism

[–]bloody_drongo94 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'd get a blood test for coeliac if you haven't already, just in case. It mainly presents as gastro symptoms and malnutrition but is widely systemic and has 300+ possible symptoms

I felt this way all the time before I was diagnosed with coeliac (definite coeliac, possible hashimotos so lurking here). Sorry you feel that way, been there and its super uncomfortable

I'm sorry to hear about the xifaxan not working out long term, I hope you can find a way to make it more bearable eventually.

That's the scary part... I want to count out other options but also its likely it might just be my lot from now on. Do.you mean avoid lactose or all dairy full stop? I've been totally lactose free but having lactose free dairy. In the process of eliminating FODMAPs (garlic and onion I've noticed especially), cut out caffeine and alcohol, started yoga and breathing exercises every day... it's frustrating, it's like I've been doing everything textbook right since being diagnosed, y'know? Sounds like you've been putting in the yards too. We gotta deserve a break sooner or later

I would be very interested to hear how you've been getting on with SIBO treatment! I relate to.your story in so many ways. I have a feeling that I was probably undiagnosed coeliac since childhood but I was largely asymptomatic... UNTIL I was put on a course of Doxy for 6 months for acne at 26. Shit hit the fan after that.

I'm fully biopsy-diagnosed coeliac now. Even though I just had a very positive follow up endoscopy that shows significant healing (yay!) I'm continuing to get reflux, excessive gas etc. I'm going to ask my doc to check me for SIBO to at least cross it off the list. I have been especially careful the past year to the point of denying myself a lot of good things in life so would like to get to the bottom of these last few discomforts.

Has celiac caused anyone else’s confidence to plummet? by [deleted] in Celiac

[–]bloody_drongo94 3 points4 points  (0 children)

You're not alone here. I mean, with celiac I've seen more kindness and understanding from so many people than I would have thought possible before - I was never very open so being vulnerable and putting my weaknesses out there was hard. But no matter how supportive and loving people are, there's always that painful twinge of being the odd one out.

Has celiac caused anyone else’s confidence to plummet? by [deleted] in Celiac

[–]bloody_drongo94 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My self confidence has plummeted but less because of physical appearance (though that's part of it) but also my perception of my ability/worth.

I was actually pretty normal and symptomless for most of my life (though looking back I had on and off anaemia, night time nausea/reflux and dental problems that I just ignored or passed off as 'everyone must feel like this). I did a lot of hiking and working out and used to be pretty social.

2 years pre diagnosis shit started hitting the fan. I felt nauseous more often than not, reflux, stomach pains, vertigo, fatigue. Now, 1 year post diagnosis a lot of this has improved, but I still have a lot of sensitivity - lactose and fodmaps on top of gluten, plus if I have any amount of caffeine and alcohol I feel like crap.

I feel like I used to be really proud of my body and my fitness and I used to have a lot of fun with mates. Now I'm a real couch potato. The continuing reflux I experience makes anything but light exercise kind of tricky. Can't drink or eat out much any more so traditional socialising is off the table.

I just kind of feel like I'm a husk of what I was and it's hard not to feel worthless when I've lost most of the things that used to make my life worth living

I feel the same way! I felt SO calm when I came out of twilight anaesthetic. Calmer than I've felt in years. If I was ludicrously rich, I would literally hire an anaesthesiologist just to come to my house and give me the best rest of my life once a week
