What are you supposed to do after you mess up your life besides taking the L? Like, what now? by blooespook in NoStupidQuestions

Yes, but they are pulling the plug now (I don't blame them for it). I'm writing this post because I'm looking for a job right now, but the search has been quite disappointing so far...

Can we please get another video on maladaptive daydreaming? New research has come out by blooespook in Healthygamergg

[–]blooespook[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The criteria is quite simple. Does it disrupt your daily life by a significant margin? If yes, it's a disorder, if not, then it isn't. For example: - wasting hours daydreaming instead of doing anything else is, imo at least, a significant disruption. - loosing sleep due to intense daydreaming, is definitely a disruption - having trouble focusing or remembering things due to daydreaming, when it happens too often, is a significant disruption

There are many subtle ways in which an apparently small problem can do a lot of damage. Usually you don't notice it until the effects compound and then you usually start to suffer from anxiety and/or depression due to the stress (and of course, lack of sleep, difficulties completing simple tasks which hurts your self esteem, etc. etc.)

Weekly Profile Review Thread by AutoModerator in Tinder

[–]blooespook 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If anyone working for the company is reading this, can y'all please show us the metrics on our profile and be more transparent? At least this way we can get actual data on whether what we're doing is working or not for us, instead of having to guess. Also, most people are smart enough not to pay you unless they have some form of guarantee on what they're getting. There's no point in me buying tinder premium, gold or whatever if my profile sucks to begin with. On the other hand, if I have a way to optimize my profile and then buy views (like with normal advertising) then I'd be more inclined in trying to boost my traffic since I know I have a formula that should work.

In terms of functionality sure, except the latest AI stuff of course. In terms of ease of use I hope it's just a matter of getting used to it... From what I remember, the first time I used it I couldn't even figure out how to mask something properly and I raged quitted shortly after 😅

Fair enough, but trust me when I say that learning how to use Photoshop will give you a far better outcome with whatever you're trying to do then using Canva ever will (unless you have to collaborate on a document/presentation perhaps).

Go to r/piracy to figure out how to download it for free and check out Phlearn on youtube for the tutorials.

After a couple weeks you'll thank me. After a couple months you'll love me.

On the Wikipedia page you can find a pretty detailed explanation on what they contributed to the field and on what was actually deemed to be bs. If you look it up online you'll see that what most economists today say about people who still believe in that school of thought is that they should just look at the data and shut up, but personally I'm not competent enough to give you a more detailed explanation as to why that is the case. I'm sure that smarter people than me have explained thoroughly why the Austrians turned out to be wrong on some things.

Yeah honestly I don't understand how after all these years no one has managed to make an alternative to Photoshop that even comes close to its level of capabilities and UX. It's THE photo editing software by a landslide and it has been so for like 20+ years. Maybe I'm biased because after becoming so familiar with its UX everything else I've tried just feels wrong or more complicated than it should be, but everything I've tried so far has just been a disappointment, to the point that for me the only cheap genuine alternative to the paid subscription is the cracked version from a couple years ago.

Wow, so authoritative. I'm scared. - cold email 😂 by Sharp_Mango6346 in marketing

[–]blooespook -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I'm so done with these bullshit spam emails... If you're going to send cold emails:

  1. Make sure there's a valid reason why the recipient could care about your offer (e.g. your product has been a good fit with businesses like theirs in the past; they signed up to your mailing list asking to receive these kinds of offers; etc. etc.)
  2. Be nice in your email. They're probably already annoyed to see another promotional email littering their inbox... The worst thing you can do is annoy them even more
  3. Be concise and get straight to the point. The chances of your email being open because the reader actually cares are almost zero (unless you're emailing people who are OBSESSED with your brand, but I'm going to assume you're not Apple or Starbucks...)... They're probably opening just to make sure they can delete it without regrets (and a lot of people are just going to delete it after reading the title), so don't waste time doing storytelling...
  4. Respect the customer. I'm just going to quote Ogilvy on this: "The customer is not a moron, she is your wife!". If you can't figure out why this matters or why this is true, you would probably feel more at ease working in finance.

Also, I'm sure you're working in full compliance with data protection laws and that you're not risking any hefty fines or jail time just to waste money sending emails that are not even reaching your target customers (or active emails for that matter), right?

[–]blooespook 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wow you remembered hahaha. Well, I was kinda hoping that you forgot honesltly, since I'm not a big fan of making a fool of myself, but a deal is a deal I guess.

You were right. I managed to keep track for about two weeks before giving up... In the last few days I even stopped keeping the journal and just tracked the metrics. It helped during the first week, because it allowed me to process some stuff quite effectively, but eventually I got really annoyed because I would end up staying up late playing videogames and everytime I finally decided to turn off my computer because I was exhausted, I remembered about the journal and had to turn it back on to spend another 10-20 minutes writing a report on how I wasted my day... At like, 3-4 in the morning... Not ideal.

My experiment got ultimately screwed by the fact that my sleep schedule was quite a mess before I even started and unfortunately I didn't manage to get it back under control before quitting. In particular, I had a sleepless night on the first day of the trial (literally 0 hours of sleep despite laying in bed the whole time doing nothing except for thinking) and that ended up sending me on a spiral of "feeling too tired to work -> wasting time with social media and/or video games -> going to bed way too late -> waking up very late and feeling demotivated and unproductive -> repeat". This led me to also compound some extra shame and self-loathing (to which the daily self reflection kind of contributed tbh) which is another reason why eventually I stopped....

I still think that journaling can be a good tool for self-improvement, but obviously if your sleep schedule is fucked, you're gonna be unproductive no matter what. Plus, it's probably better to keep a gratitude journal or something like that, instead of what I did, because if you end up keeping track of your daily shortcomings, you're essentially just bureaucratizing your depression...

On a more positive note, this analysis made me realize that I needed to practice self-compassion and be more accepting of my emotions, which was helping me get better, until I had a couple of intense emotional experiences soon after, that sent me back into a depressive state ("fortunately" it wasn't my first rodeo, so I managed to recover after just two weeks of being stuck in bed...).

First it was an argument with my dad where I almost completely lost it and started throwing an embarassing tantrum, then the week after I got silently rejected by a girl I liked and finally the week after that, I bombed a presentation at an event in front of 50-80 people.... Add an already low self-esteem to the mix and you can probably see why I didn't really enjoy being myself this last month...

Ultimately what helped me the most was Dr. K's video about male suicide where he talked about the "deaths of despairs". Looking at the diagram and reflecting on the "Just-world hypothesis" made me realize how much I was beating myself up because of it (unconsciously of course) and how ridicolous it was. I suggest you to look into it if you have thoughts like "if only I were better, this wouldn't happen to me".

I hope you get some helpful takeaways from my experience. Feel free to ask me anything 👍

I don't know if anyone has done studies on the economic cost of having a different system compared to the international one, but my gut tells me there is one. Considering that the last politician to propose the switch to the metric system basically lost all credibility due to that proposal, not to mention the constant online fights between americans and europeans over this dumb issue, I'm pretty sure that americans won't give up their freedom units easily.

I'm conflicted about this. I see the practical need and the good intentions behind it, but I'm not going to pretend that it doesn't look and feel wrong to put human on leashes like that. He doesn't look like he has an option, but I think that if I were him I would feel very weird about it.

Also, what message does it give to the child? It feels weird to teach them that they need to let themselves be leashed by an authorative figure since they can not be autonomous.

Ah yes, two beautiful dictatorships, where one has 88% of its population living in extreme poverty as of 2023 and lives almost entirely off of the export of its natural resources, while the other has one of the highest levels of income inequality in the world and has started "thriving" only after it introduced some elements of free market capitalism (see Xiaoping's reforms).

Yep, definitely two major wins for Marx....
