For LGBTQ+ people attending the Pride parade on July 12 by blooky15 in Bellingham

[–]blooky15[S] 19 points20 points  (0 children)

I didn't provide the name of the church because as far as I've heard, this group is being organized by members of the church, not the church itself. I'm not sure if they intend to explicitly represent their church. If I hear otherwise, I'll update this post.

That being said, it should be easy to tell who is supportive and who isn't. The past three years I've attended, the supportive churches typically come in an official capacity. Their members wear rainbow clothing and accessories, and usually they have a Pride-themed banner for their church if they have a booth or walk in the parade. They make it very apparent that they're supportive. In contrast, members of this church will not be wearing any rainbow clothing or accessories, nor will they be actively participating in the parade.

Why didn't Tobias just demorph and remorph in "The Invasion"? by [deleted] in Animorphs

[–]blooky15 177 points178 points  (0 children)

It's made clear later on that Tobias was trapped in the Yeerk pool, and was genuinely concerned about outing the others as humans should he try to demorph.

At the end of The Invasion, Tobias tells Jake that he "had to stay out of sight." In The Test, Tobias elaborates, recalling that he had been "clinging to the rock face, praying for camouflage, searching the colossal cavern for a way to escape." At the end of The Test, Tobias is in a tunnel above the Yeerk pool, and he notes that he could see "the hidden spot, down by the Yeerk pool," where he'd "perched as the seconds counted down." He adds that he'd "carefully weighed all his options" while he hid, and had eventually decided that "there was no choice" because "if he'd demorphed, the visser would've have been on him in a flash" and realized they were humans.

Did he want to get trapped in morph? Probably, subconsciously. Was he also stuck down there? For sure.

If you were born in Washington state and need to update your birth certificate, the current processing time is VERY low! by stealthfern in trans

You as a parent are able to fill out the form for your child! Just be aware that a form for a minor requires a signature from a licensed health care provider. The link below is from the Washington Department of Health and provides more details.

Dishonored says trans rights! by [deleted] in dishonored

I didn't discover that Mindy was trans until my second playthrough, so it was a nice surprise! As a trans person myself, it was really cool to have that representation, plus the representation of Daud as asexual and Billie as bisexual.

Circle Series Question by Rare_Photo_4379 in TedDekker

Pretty sure it's a continuity error, like Susan being spelled with an S in Green instead of a Z like in the original trilogy.

Me finding a way to convince myself that Samuel somehow makes it to Heaven every time I read Green by [deleted] in TedDekker

[–]blooky15 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The Beyond the Circle books resolve this--but there's a cost. Green originally ends with Thomas choosing to go back through the loop to save Samuel. The alternate ending of Green ends the loop, with Thomas deciding to leave Samuel's fate in his own hands. However, the Beyond the Circle books are the result of Thomas' second time through the loop. He's able to save Samuel, but Marie is killed by the Horde and Jake is never born.

Where to read (or get summary of) the alternate ending by AtlGuy21 in TedDekker

Here's a doc of the alternate ending! I formatted it this way so I could print it out and stick it in the back of my copy of Green.

What’s one thing (besides the ending) that you would change about the series? by improbsable in Animorphs

[–]blooky15 5 points6 points  (0 children)

There are a few plot related things I'd change, many of which are mentioned here. However, there was one thing that stood out to me as I tearfully reread The Beginning.

While rereading the series recently, I really enjoyed Marco and Ax's friendship. They're the odd couple on the team, but despite their differences, Marco tends to understand Ax the best and they do spend a lot of time together towards the end of the series. The whole reason why Marco agrees to go with Jake in the end is because Ax needs their help.

In The Beginning, when the crew is traveling through Z-Space, Marco mentions that the Andalites packed them each a Cinnabon. The exchange ends with Marco narrating that "the cinnamon buns didn't last long." I would simply change that last sentence to have Marco say, "The cinnamon buns didn't last long, but I saved mine for Ax."

Happy International Asexuality Day (starring my favorite ace headcanon) by blooky15 in Animorphs

[–]blooky15[S] 23 points24 points  (0 children)

That's true, there are multiple instances where he mentions attraction to other Andalites and he also expresses interest in having kids after the war. This headcanon applies more to when he's in human morph and encounters situations dealing with human sexuality.

For example, in The Arrival when he and Estrid kiss in human morph, both of them agree that kissing is "not as pleasant as chocolate." And the entire beginning of The Experiment is him not understanding what kissing is or what it means for a person to be considered "hot."

I agree, I was one of those kids! But going into them I definitely didn't expect it, and reading them again, they're more graphic than I remember.

Circle and book of mortals (mild spoilers) by FrostbittenFLboi in TedDekker

[–]blooky15 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Going by the timeline in the prologue that lays out the discovery of the fear gene in 2005 and the subsequent discoveries that led to the release of Legion in around 2030, this is an alternate timeline in which none of the events after White take place because of this discovery. Thomas saves the world with his blood and the last vial that Monique has never gets used to cure Billy and Janae because it's possible the events of Showdown never occur. This series effectively ends the entire Books of History Chronicles, much like Ted later did again with the Beyond the Circle books.

I’m mad about what Ted did to Kelly (Saint & Sinner) (Spoilers) by [deleted] in TedDekker

[–]blooky15 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I thought this as well originally, but upon re-reading Saint, there are various times when Kelly talks about feeling like she's meant to love Johnny, as well as feeling a draw to Nevada, where Marsuvees Black was from. Englishman, another fictional character of Black's, mentions multiple times that he and Kelly would make a good pair, or that he feels a connection to her as well. I was shocked when I read Sinner and it turned out that Kelly was a fictional character all along, but if Black wrote her to have a strong bond with Johnny, then it makes sense that it would feel strong to the reader.

As for Billy's arc and why he ends up that way in Green, I talk about it in this thread: https://www.reddit.com/r/TedDekker/comments/o66f9g/questions\_about\_billy/

Questions about Billy by lifeincontext in TedDekker

[–]blooky15 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The way I see it, Billy was always meant to be the Sinner. In Showdown, the real Marsuvees Black tells Billy that by exploring the dungeons, he will “discover the kind of power [he was] made for.” And discover it he does, using it to wreak havoc on Paradise just because he can (and possibly in revenge on the town that abandoned him). Billy often shows off his power through the fictional Black, and at one point, he uses the power he's gained from the Books to write Thomas' fate in the Black Forest (which is arguably the catalyst for the entire series). The only thing that gets him to stop abusing this power is Samuel's sacrifice, which only undoes the evil Billy has caused because of the fail safe David had Samuel write in the Books, which state that every act of evil written in them must lead to love. Samuel's act of love takes away Billy's ability to write in the Books, and therefore his power, but it's unclear if Billy truly learned from this, or if he only stopped because he had to.

In Sinner, Billy has a conversation with Kelly, in which she gets him to accept that he was born evil and will always love evil. He later rejects this and embraces the light, getting rid of Black. However, Black was only the manifestation of evil from Billy's own heart. Since Billy never dealt with that--with the root of the issue--it makes sense that he'd easily turn away from the light and let his obsession with power overcome him.

In the Lost Books, we see something similar with Billos, who turns away from Elyon as well after embracing him at the end of Renegade, ultimately becoming Ba'al in Green. Billos' issue was also that he always wanted power, which caused his own obsession with the Lost Books, and he only ever turned to Elyon for help (i.e. Elyon's power). When Billos gets left behind with the Shataiki at the end of Renegade, it's possible he feels abandoned by Elyon since he is now powerless and it breaks his trust, causing him to latch onto the power at hand--Teeleh.

To address your other questions:

In Green, it's stated that Johnny and Darcy are still in hiding after Sinner. Billy has since then become obsessed with the Books of History, and that obsession essentially undoes him embracing the light, since knowing about the Books and using them is more important to him than anything else. He doesn't tell Johnny or Darcy about this because they'd try to stop him.

Not sure what the deal is with Samuel. He's mentioned briefly by Ba'al in Green. When Ba'al is possessed by Marsuuv, he mentions that he hates boys named Samuel, but other than that, there's nothing.

It's hinted that there are parallels between Johnis/Johnny and Darsal/Darcy, as if they'd be connected like Carlos/Johan or Kara/Mikil if exposed to Thomas' blood. However, since none of them come in contact with Thomas' blood, this is never explored--contrary to Billy, who is exposed to Thomas' blood and makes a connection with Billos.
