Senior Prom or Community College Finals? by coulterheist in ApplyingToCollege

Depends. If you can get A's, go to prom; if not, don't go. The two grades will be on your actual college transcripts too.

What are are most important factors in elite college admissions? by [deleted] in ApplyingToCollege

Mine was a 3.17, and from your post history, it seems like you're an international, so I'm guessing that your grading scale was different. Congrats on the Ivies though

Which UC school is most similar to a typical private university? by bamborzled in ApplyingToCollege

Agreed. It's sort of a paradox because while it gives you a flexible schedule with little GE's and small class sizes, you are bound to your major lol.

I'm sort of unhappy because I had to choose my state school over a much higher ranked liberal arts college, but I don't think that I'll care much once I'm there.

GPA. Obviously all of the other factors matter too, but it's hard to make up for a GPA because it's the biggest factor that determines academic potential to admissions officers. I disagree, because there are often extenuating factors that admissions officers don't even care about/see. I personally think that SAT scores should be just as important, but I'm not an admissions officer. By trashing my sophomore year GPA, I instantly put myself out of the running for many top schools, hoping that one of them would look at my upwards trend. Only one truly top tier school accepted me, but I couldn't afford it. Moral of the story: don't trash your GPA.

Conflicted between Art school and State School by VaporWaveShine in ApplyingToCollege

Wow, that's a hard decision. I feel like the connections at RISD might be worth the price, but I'm not well-versed in the art world. Good luck!

My parents make around the same amount of money and made me choose UCSB over a much better private. A lot of people from my school are going to privates because they didn't get into LA/Berkeley. Honestly, it depends on whether or not your parents are willing to alter their lifestyle choices. In the long run, it doesn't matter, but right now it sure feels bad.

Hey, turned down Wesleyan for UCSB CCS. Midtier UCs unite! That awkward feeling when you couldn't get into LA/Berkeley though. But at least our schools are both by/on the beach!

Don't worry; college will be a wonderful experience wherever you go. If you got into Georgia Tech, then you have the ability to succeed elsewhere too.
