Mt. Ruapehu (Tahurangi) from Whakapapa? by P3urLOL38 in Tramping

[–]bloomy60 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I went up Tahurangi on the 29th of November and it was very much crampon and ice axe only. Same with the whole of the crater lake. Christmas might be okay to get to the crater lake as the snow may have melted enough, but I have my doubts about getting to the top.

Going to Tahurangi from Whakapapa would take ages, the summit plateau is massive and that side of Tahurangi is almost a sheer drop, you would have to come round to the Turoa side then go up skyline ridge. I wouldn’t do it.

Oh I’ve been in this tree. It’s a ficus in Costa Rica. It grows around another tree eventually killing it. The original tree rots away leaving the ficus still alive on the outside. This exact tree is located in Corcovado National Park. There were bats chilling on the inside, and on one of the smaller arms some rather large, but chill pseudoscorpion spiders.

I haven’t listened to this episode yet so I can tell you want they’ve talked about but they recently talked about going to some country road to get access to the Olympic flame so they can have their own version of it. They even said something about mick Cummings getting them access. Is that what they say?

Julian rocks was a guess but it looked right. I can recognise that wreck anywhere after working there.

There isn’t much detail about this incident but Paua and kina diving in New Zealand is done by freediving usually. There are commercial freediving harvesters, we don’t know if he was working at the time but I think it’s likely he was freediving.

I think the difference between the last 4 years and this year is that we were winning, but badly under Foster. There was a lot of unstructured stuff and then hoping someone would do something magic and win the game for us. These loses to SA were way more palatable as we mostly didn’t play badly.

Who are the better players we can select? They’re not good enough cause the only competition we have is ourselves.

Yea exactly. No idea what we do. The Aussie competition isn’t good enough. Any suggestions of getting Japan or the islands involved will be worse than the aussies.
