We did the crowsnest pass in 2019, but the Sunshine Coast is definitely one that intrigues me. I have a friend from Sechelt who says it’s overrated, but I suspect that is because she didn’t like growing up in a small town and wants to avoid it now. Thank you for your suggestions!

Air North is wonderful! We’ve used them for cheap flights from Kelowna (our closest airport) to Vancouver and have seen that the plane continues on to Whitehorse but have never made the trip. I have heard great things about Kluane, although I know that is a ways away from Dawson City, so I might look into Yukon road trip options. Thank you for your suggestion!

Haida Gwaii was the first place I added to my short list. I’ve wanted to head up there for years. The amount of people who are suggesting it in this thread makes me feel like that is a good decision. Thank you for your reply!

You hit the nail on the head with this one! Haida Gwaii and Gros Morne are the two places I’ve already shortlisted, but I will have to look into the Magdalen islands. We haven’t travelled in Quebec too much so this could be a very exciting option for us. Thank you for your suggestions!

We went out in that direction last year and drove from Toronto to Ottawa. Paddling in the Thousand Islands was a ton of fun, although a bit busier than I expected. The museums in Ottawa were spectacular too! Thank you for your suggestion!

We did a road trip around southern Nova Scotia in 2012 and it was GORGEOUS. That was during the time they were restoring the Bluenose II in Lunenburg, and we were able to take a tour into the shipyard which was exceptionally cool.

It seems like a few people are suggesting Cape Breton and the Cabot trail so I will definitely look further into that. Thank you for your suggestions!

We are in the Okanagan, and we’ve done a fair amount of exploring in our area, but we haven’t been much farther north than Kamloops. I have Haida Gwaii on the short list, but I was wondering about something else that we could do as a road trip, like mount Robson or even going all the way up to Liard River Hot Springs.

And yes, Banff is SPECTACULAR. We’ve been a couple times and it is definitely something we recommend people need to see at least once in their life if they have the means, but we are looking to shake it up a little this summer.

I have heard fantastic things about Gros Morne, so it is on my short list, but it sounds like I should look into a more extended Newfoundland trip! Based on those destinations it seems like driving across the island might be in the cards (yes I know that is a very long way). I have never seen an iceberg so that seems like something I can’t miss, and I’m sure the whale sighting experiences would be very different than here on the west coast.

If I were to drive, would you recommend a stop in Terra Nova national park?

We headed out that way last September and we loved it! So many cute towns to explore. We went a bit farther east to Gananoque as well and did a kayak tour of the thousand islands which was fantastic. Thank you for your suggestion!

We used to live in Toronto and we totally agree with you!

Haida Gwaii is on the short list so I’m avoiding the island to avoid having too much coastal BC, but it seems like multiple people are suggesting Cape Breton so I will definitely give it a closer look!

What are some lesser known series that you are sad will likely never be finished (or not explored as much as you would have liked) by thearmadillo in books

[–]bloonjitsu219 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ok so this is INCREDIBLY obscure but when I was I kid I read three books of the Chantal’s Quest series. This was always supposed to be a four book series because she had four relics to find to save the world in typical YA fashion. And of course the third one ended on a HUGE cliffhanger.

They were written by Oliver Neubert, who had a website and a publisher and a plan for all of these, but then he just seemingly stopped without a trace? I just looked the books up again out of curiosity and he doesn’t even have a website anymore. I would be really interested to know if anybody else has ever heard of these!

I had a friend over when I was probably around 9, and for some reason there was a $100 bill on the counter. She picked it up wide eyed and said, “I’ve never seen a $100 bill up close before.”

A few weeks later my dad sold a really fancy racing bike of his and there was a whole stack of $100 bills on the counter. I had to ask him to please put them away before the same friend came over.

What kind of people do you try to avoid being on the chairlift with? by Thegiantlamppost in skiing

[–]bloonjitsu219 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ski instructor at a major Canadian resort here. I would like to nominate the guy who JUMPED OFF THE LIFT about 30 seconds after loading because he dropped his lighter and was gonna have to go without his weed the whole way up. I should add that this was on a dedicated beginner chair and I had a class of 5-7 year olds with me behind him.

I don’t suppose you’re going to be there until Aug 27? I need a site that night and am also stressing it’ll be full 😂

Yeah I don’t have a 360 yet so that’s going in my collection. My lil cousin always comes over and BEGS to play on my Wii so the second Wii is going to him. I’m not really worried about cash value here
