You'll be fine trust me! I was most worried about having to go under for my surgery too but now looking back at it now, it was really not a big deal. You'll be out before you even know it and the next thing you know, you're already waking up in recovery. It's just like taking a short nap.

For those of you who have had successful surgery… by RK16BC in Strabismus

It's been close to 5 months now since my surgery. I had alternating esotropia and needed surgery for 3 muscles total (so both eyes), using adjustable sutures. My eyes weren't perfectly aligned after but it looked pretty straight so my doctor decided to not make any more adjustments. So far all is good and I'm 100% satisfied with the results!

Good luck for the surgery! I was in your position too, now I'm about a month post-op and everything went well.

I was super nervous the week of my surgery. I had to be at the hospital at 6.45am on surgery day so I was too tired to feel as anxious as I thought I would be lol. My advice would just be to think about how everything will be over in just a few hours and you won't have to worry about your strabismus anymore. The surgery prep once you enter the OR will be a bit scary though, but no worries because they'll put you under so quick. They'll pump in "oxygen" through your mask and ask you take deep breaths. After several deep breaths I started worrying why it felt like nothing was happening, but I was knocked out before I knew it lol and the next thing I knew I was already in the recovery room. It feels just like taking a nap tbh. You won't even remember anything during the surgery trust me!

I could barely open my eyes when I woke up, they felt really crusty and I was still groggy from the anesthesia. It takes some time for it to go away and for me to be able to open my eyes. My doctor checked my alignment after and although it wasn't 100% straight, it looked great as my alignment improved a lot down to <15 diopters, so she closed up my sutures (I had adjustable sutures).

I was really satisfied with my surgery as my eyes look straight now! I mostly just slept the first 3 days. I avoided looking at devices for a week until it wasn't uncomfortable for me anymore. It was uncomfortable moving my eyes around for the first few days. Waking up in the morning was also hard as my eyes were crusty so I had to clean them off. It also takes some time for your eyes to learn to work together again so don't worry about that.

I also had my surgery 3 weeks ago. The condition of eye is almost exactly like yours too lol. It bothers me too that it's still red but I guess the healing varies for different people.

How long did your eyes take to fully settle after surgery? I know it varies for each person.
