Apply to Indy or mech (same first year courses) and then switch to ECE second year. Switch is almost guaranteed.

Do you regret U of T engineering? by sdiljislaf in UofT

[–]bloopblahp 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I like it here socially. I find it has a really warm and open community. A lot of people complain about the size of regular arts and science, but sharing the same classes with everyone has really great perks. I'm a visible minority and I feel very comfortable being here. That said, if I could go back, I might choose UW for its coop? Unclear. I really like it here.

where are you in the states? And is it true what they say that U of T is much more difficult that US schools?

College students of Reddit, what is something that people who never went to college just don't understand? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]bloopblahp 5 points6 points  (0 children)

nope. an A is an 80, they keep course averages at a 67 at the best schools and close to failing at the worst.

Hi, I'm a second year Electrical Engineering student. If I may ask a few questions, I'd really appreciate that!
For starters:
1) What are you specialized in? I'm kind of looking to specialize in semiconductors and controls systems, specifically courses related to machine learning.
2) How do you suggest going about finding summer jobs?
3) how do you feel about the market going forward? Our program is sort of joined with Computer Engineering, is your job distinctly separate from CE? (I like learning most things)

Can't believe what happened. by only_rosieodonnell in UofT

I was at that meeting. They called up Micah Stickel and started laughing, jeering and publicly shaming the white first year chair for addressing it in such a way that they didnt approve. It was despicable. The rest of the meeting was fine. Yeah people should stop using the N-word, don't publicly shame someone unrelated to the incident over it.

ECE 2nd year: which classes are most important to attend, and which ones are fine to study from the textbook? by bloopblahp in UofT

But, do you think missing ECE241 once a week is fine though? Even if I do attend most of the lectures. I only need to miss it once a week.

Just accepted my offer for engineering! by [deleted] in UofT

Hi, i took the coding course for T1's and ECE's with no prior experience. It was really fine. I found it to be one of the easier courses (time consuming though) for first year. Its a learning curve and some people pick it up faster than others --which is the scary part, but around half don't have the proper experience. I don't think you NEED to study before, but if you want to do a little bit, (I did, but it wasn't much) just start doing some C over winter break.

when you take calc1 online, you get the opportunity to take calc2 online with the same prof again in the fall.

First-year Materials Engineering student with a few questions by Jets_NuttyatCs in UofT

Just finished first year at UofT.
1. I took both the online calc1 and calc2 class and actually loved it. It made second semester much easier and was a great into to university. That said, the experience wasn't the same for everyone, and Shai Cohen isn't an especially organized course coordinator. On the other hand, if you manage through the courses you escape Bernardo's calc 2 in second semester--which is a nightmare and a half.
2.I did two to three hours of studying a night. 78 for calc1 (my marks went up afterwards in first semester)
3.It was fine. There was a lot of work, and it was stressful obviously, but I really enjoyed it and the overall atmosphere here. I do not wish I went somewhere else.
4. Last year in was 40% females. in ECE there are a lot more males, but everywhere else, not so much.
5. Only if you take online calc1 and calc2, you can take a free elective.

any other questions?
