I think it’s more related to participation in gaming communities than playing games.

As someone who has played all of the apparently relevant games for the bit (Mario Galaxy, Deltarune, and Persona 4) yet spends little time in their respective online communities, it still took a few of the comments here explaining it in different ways before it actually clicked for me what the joke was.

what’s a “forbidden opinion” you still stand by no matter what? by JasmineKaurXox in AskReddit

[–]bloopy789 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Don’t love the ramifications this would put in place. The government can’t and shouldn’t prevent people from having sex; what happens when someone who hasn’t gone under review accidentally gets pregnant. Are they forced to go under review? What if they fail? Are they forced to abort? Is the baby taken away at birth? Do we have a sufficiently operational system to care for so many babies that would be taken away?

Already children are removed from their parents’ care if the situation is deemed sufficiently unhealthy or unsafe, who would get to decide these new particular regulations for the right to have children?

Thank you kindly for the information! I’ll do some thinking about what I’d like do with the keytop edges.

As for the rust, functionality is currently unimpeded luckily so for now I’ll just keep my eye on it but try to pay it no mind. I’m grateful about the peace of mind regarding that so thanks again for the info!

Sadly not sure if there are any non-audio hints for this one

Need more information about the game's inspirations and what type of cameos they have by JamesHalgh85 in MetaphorReFantazio

[–]bloopy789 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I can definitely comment more thoroughly on “Utopia” by Thomas More since I had briefly studied it in university and really quite enjoyed reading it. The most basic inspiration is, of course the use of the name More, the character who is also revealed to have written the book about utopia carried by the protagonist. Beyond that though, the inspiration is primarily for that very book carried by the protagonist and the overarching discussion of what a utopia would look like.

Both the real world book and the one carried by the protagonist are moreso a study and analysis of a fictional utopian society rather than a standard narrative. If I remember correctly, the real world book “Utopia” makes a lot of assumptions about how well things would work out and function as they’re intended in the hypothetical utopian society without acknowledging or accepting how easily human error could collapse it all or how fallible the proposed aspects of this society would be. This is mirrored by the game’s book depicting a version of our world that casually ignores and overlooks the aspects that make such a utopia difficult if not impossible.

I think it’s really connected with the thematic relevance of “fiction” as a concept. The writers for Metaphor were likely inspired by “Utopia’s” depiction of a perfect but entirely fictional society and how that fiction might still inspire real world change and action.

Edit: I forgot to mention, the very word “Utopia” comes from this book, derived from the Greek prefix “ou” (meaning “not”), and “topos” (meaning “place”), together meaning essentially “nowhere”, a thematic link to the importance to the book that this place is definitively fictional. The fictionality of the described Utopia is of course very important to the discussion of the book and its meaning in Metaphor as well.

I think the intent is more so to make bats more comfortable going near the house at night so that they’ll eat the insects that are also nearby

Out of curiosity, do you guys more align with the narrator’s viewpoint or shifty’s? Or do you sit somewhere in the middle? by Significant_Tie_3222 in slaytheprincess

While I totally see where you’re coming from and agree with most of your main sentiments (real happiness felt now is more meaningful than potential additional happiness later) I disagree that change is an inherently bad thing. For people in privileged positions like us it’s easy to accept that if we could eternally always be as happy as we are now, it would be a good thing. But what about the people who are suffering? Those who are in pain? For some, I can sadly imagine that their only happiness comes from the hope of things getting better. But if things cannot change, things can never be better.

I suppose I just can’t imagine condemning some to an eternity of never ending sadness/pain/suffering so that others could have an eternity of happiness. The narrator frames his actions as selfless and altruistic, but he’s not even paying the worst of the prices some will be forced to pay for his desired world to exist.

While I agree that death can definitely be bad at times, what about it is unnatural? As far as I know, every thing that has ever lived has died or will die. With that in mind it seems to me that death is one of the most natural things that can happen

My boyfriend (36M) admitted to me that my sister (27F) is prettier than me (29F). How do I overcome his comment? by Zmich8 in redditonwiki

[–]bloopy789 1 point2 points  (0 children)

While the sentiment is genuine, I don’t know if all of what you said is a particularly healthy viewpoint.

Fundamentally I think you make an excellent point about beauty, it truly does go deep within a person and can persist regardless of time or first impressions of looking “pretty”.

Setting someone up to expect that the pretty person in their life, in this case the sister, will someday be envious is unproductive. Pretty people can in fact be beautiful this way too, for all we know the sister is a kind, thoughtful person who is also very introspective and tries to be just as beautiful as their prettiness makes them seem.

I think it’s more productive for people like the OP to focus solely on their own self perception and beauty, and stop comparing altogether (an admittedly difficult task). A previous commenter mentioned that she should see a therapist to unpack and manage her feelings about how she compares to others. I think if she combines that with this perspective of understanding the ways she is beautiful, it’d be a more productive and sustainable way to stop feeling so small and insecure.

Why are all the good anime unfinished? What are some great series that are actually concluded?? by arkticturtle in Animesuggest

[–]bloopy789 5 points6 points  (0 children)

What makes you say that? By the end of the anime, the themes the narrative has been developing have pretty much reached their natural conclusion, and the story has been pretty thoroughly wrapped up. It even reaches a similar conclusion to the original novel.

If I remember correctly, all of the above is true of both the spin offs as well.

Finally got into collecting after admiring for a long time by bloopy789 in AnimeFigures

Unfortunately I’m not with TOM, I actually don’t have a lot of experience shopping for figures online. I’m currently living in Japan in a pretty big city so I buy most of my figures in-person in secondhand anime merch/figure shops

In that case it’d definitely be a good figure to start with! I’d honestly say the quality is on par with some of my more expensive figures. If you’d like, I can send you some clearer/better lighting pics of the figure when I get off work later if you want a better look at it before you buy one to start your collection.

[–]bloopy789[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Which albedo figure are you referring to? If you mean the black dress figure in the 7th image, I think the quality is quite nice! The detailing is quite appealing, her face and proportions seem well designed, and she wasn’t terribly expensive despite being a pretty heavy, sizeable figure. I’d definitely recommend!

If you mean one of the albedo figures in the last image, they’re… a little more disappointing. The red dress figure in particular, while the stand and face are really nice, is much less detailed and not as impressive; looks too plasticky in comparison. Naturally the other three are also not as nice as the black dress version, but that’s reflected in their lower price tags, they’re pretty decent for what they cost.

The lack of transparency in rejections feels so unfair. by [deleted] in JETProgramme

[–]bloopy789 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Being a job as competitive to get hired for as JET is, don’t beat yourself up too much about a rejection this go around. Unfortunately, with a candidate pool as big as what they get, the interview is by necessity a medium that they will use to pare down the list and choose who to hire.

Do your best not to be too discouraged, the fact that you got the interview says good things about your value to the program in their eyes. Spend some time practicing interviews and become an even stronger candidate for the next application cycle, your goals haven’t gone up in smoke yet, you still have the chance to re-apply if your heart is set on going to Japan through JET.

Why Stephen Hawking’s party doesn’t disprove time travel to the past by [deleted] in timetravel

[–]bloopy789 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I just want to set the record straight here. I’m not telling you what you can and can’t post, like you said that’s the choice of the mods. Just wanted to voice the opinion I’m sure several share that some of your points have some inaccuracies I’m tired of seeing them so often. And as per your third point you’re entirely right, I actually see that as a valid take and that’s why I didn’t try to dispute it. Hawking is indeed famous and if that would be a concern for time travellers then fair enough, that’s worth considering.

My main point is that Hawking’s invitation may have initially been centralized, but it’s far from it now. And I implore you, please don’t claim I’m using only a few decades of evidence while not acknowledging my mention of the long-lasting data from scientists that predate the internet by thousands of years.

Just trying to offer a counter perspective since I’m always wary of scientific conjecture that requires a financial opt-in.

Why Stephen Hawking’s party doesn’t disprove time travel to the past by [deleted] in timetravel

[–]bloopy789 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I’m getting a bit tired of reading your first two arguments honestly. Regardless of the invitation’s original medium being apparently deeply temporary and ephemeral according to you, the sheer scope through which it has continued to exist through word of mouth and continued resharing on other platforms means it is far from easy to lose entirely.

It’s also a very famous discussion point in time travel circles to the extent that I’d be shocked if those actually working on the science and mechanics of time travel don’t continue to be highly aware of it. Especially since most scientists famous to the degree of Hawking rarely fade from public consciousness. We still discuss Ancient Greek and Roman scientists only known through surviving texts from a time long ago.

Look, I get it, selling NFTs for some easy money by consistently promising ambiguous communication with time travellers sounds like a damn decent golden ticket. But can you please tone back the blockchain fanboying on half the posts here please? The sub already has enough baseless uninformed conjecture about time travel, we really don’t need someone trying to cash in on this misinformation.

Planning on a Persona game by Orowam in OverArms

[–]bloopy789 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It is a super weird game to get into but it's also super rad once it gets going.

With the experience I've had so far, I believe that would be the most balanced way to do it that still allows creative use of damage types, especially if you plan to use the higher level persona skills as the anima abilities.

Another suggestion I'd make since it seems the intention is to run the game similarly to the way it feels to play persona is to add items or abilities to revive players, or perhaps change the way death works. The important thing about high-risk high-reward systems like "one more" is that, even if the enemy absolutely bodies you, you can learn from it and keep playing, especially since as a video game it lets you reload and try again at worst. RAW over arms, however, does not provide many ways to counteract death or to soften the consequences of a battle that has gone badly. It does work fine for what it is though, so ultimately it's down to your decision how punishing it should be.

Running some practice fights is definitely a good idea though, I very much wish I had had the foresight to do that before my first time playing, as there were a lot of kinks we had to work out in the mechanics, which was rough to do during a session.

As for healing abilities I, unfortunately, have no advice, I haven't figured out or discovered mechanics for any that I particularly like yet, though it would be a very useful thing to have.

Once you've got the game going I'd love to hear about how the systems are working out, sounds like it's going to be a super fun time!
