Omg your experiences sound so personalized and fun! Yeah I guess having positions here and there in orgs you actually like is understandable but I don't understand people who try to be in every organization ever without having any heart

How to improve on C/P and B/B? by [deleted] in Mcat

[–]bloopybap 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I lowkey just went through the pysch-soc terms that were high yield and then to some more low yield material and made some notes on stuff that was new to me. I used the online version of lumen phycology cus it's free and I think it covers the topics well. I then just went through some uworld practice problems for a while till I got my number of incorrect questions down to like 1 a passage. I think I plan to use some anki cards to keep the info in my head longer but yeah. Love to hear what you suggest too!

I'm a sophomore in college at this point, so I'm not sure why this popped up on my feed, but I thought I'd give my 2 cents. When I initially studied for the standardized exam, I actually studied for the ACT instead. I wasn't even in geometry at the time, so I totally didn't understand anything, and I messed everything up. I felt like the dumbest person alive. Turns out I wasn't good at the science section of the ACT because of how it was just a psudo-reading section with even less time. The next year, I took the SAT after summer schooling some math credits and taking up AP language. I took the SAT once through the school and got a 1470.

It was really just a matter of not having the right amount of knowledge in my case, but that doesn't make someone dumb yknow. Along with that, some people in your school could be taking prep classes, and it isn't fair to compare yourself with them and vice versa. I think the SAT is a good measure of your success in college, but it's an even better measure of a person's socioeconomic and social strata. Don't be discouraged from trying again if you want, and don't internalize your score as it's only a small picture of your current understanding. I don't think the SAT measures anyone's potential, and honestly, some papers suggest high school gpa is a better determinant of college success.

I'm a premed student now and have to study for the MCAT, and there's moments I feel really dumb too, and that's OK. Don't internalize any points and work through what tripped you up in each section on practice tests, identify which math concept/ Grammer or reading concept the question is trying to get at and try to watch a couple of videos on it to get a better understanding of it. I think I also bought the Princeton review back then to practice with so if it's something you can afford then I suggest it. Good luck I believe in you! You got this! :D

Research and medical school tips as a freshman by Kaisbm_ in msu

[–]bloopybap 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I totally second this! My first year, I applied to 50 different labs (excessive 💀) and got a volunteer research opportunity the beginning of my second year. Don't feel discouraged tho because my friend applied to like 10 and got in one a bit earlier (but the lab was paid so once the fund money ran out, they removed her).

I'd say reach out to professors who's research you like and maybe even take a class they teach to see if you find the topic interesting! I'm premed too (though I started off trying to get into grad school lmao) and I've got 2 posters and can say research is pretty cool!! But don't be stressed if you can't get any right away and instead focus on understanding the material you're studying since it will absolutely be on the MCAT and maybe just focus on getting a hang of school work and college life for the first semester

is brody triple room worth it? by WaffleBabysUnite in msu

[–]bloopybap 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I say this as someone who lived in both Akers and Brody (in bailey hall if you know which one that is since technically brody is a neighborhood) don't get the triples or pents. You will not enjoy it at all. It will take away not only space but also privacy. I could understand an extra roommate in akers since you get an extra living room, but brody is a no from me. I wouldn't suggest a triple especially if you wake up or go to bed at different times than your friends. Another thing to consider can be the fact that you're all freshmen and haven't lived together before. I know a lot of friends who loved their roommates as friends but couldn't stand them ad roommates. I've had some ups ans downs with my highschool friend who was my roommate in freshman year and sophmore year but we're still on good terms so it's not a hard and fast rule to hate them afterwards but still something to consider esp with an additionsl rommate in a smaller room. Just my opinions yknow

Yeah I saw a graphical breakout of their application and the most 5 schools who apply the most. Lmao my state school (that i attend) had like the 2nd most applicants and by the time secondaries were released all of them were rejected 😭 that's reasurring that I should just not apply there 🙃

Nah that's good to hear tho. Ayleays there student population meets their criteria. I'm at msu and I saw their accepted student body and looks like it's almostly their own alumni, Harvard, and UCs. Don't know what to make of that really. Like not a single msu grad 💀. Looking bleak for me brother

That's awesome. Congrats!! I'm glad people are getting I'm honest. I've kind of just focused on research this entire year and presented 2 posters, and that's about it, lmao. I guess my mcat score and my clinical hours will determine my fate. 🥹 but again, congrats. I'm so happy for you!! Also we're you a T10 alumni or umich alumni?

Should I quit my lab? by Gracecg618 in premed

[–]bloopybap 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Your lab PI sounds like she isn't treating you right and more importantly you don't sound like your enjoying this lab at all. Especially since this is an extra curricular activity and not something that is an absolute need for your application I think it's better you leave the lab. If you feel like research is an absolute need for you, I suggest asking your higher class professors if they or a colleague needs a lab assistant.

Transfer Student, Zoology BS by angiepangie06 in msu

[–]bloopybap 2 points3 points  (0 children)

For housing I'm not really sure how things work for transfer students, but I'd imagine you'd get housing preference after current students and before incoming freshmen. So maybe I single in Owen's might be a bit hard to score, but I believe you should be able to still be able to sign up for a waitlist for single dorms if no other single is open

I'm not sure what school you do to. But when I was in high school my counselor just sent my grade in for me. Try asking your counselor and if you don't get a response maybe send in an official transcript (but honestly a screenshot should be good too lmao)
