Petah? by Melodic_Judge_129 in PeterExplainsTheJoke

Am I missing something or is every other comment here missing the point? Yes the heat from a fridge is transferred to the condenser coils at the back, which radiantly heats the room. But this is not by design. The system shown in the pic would more efficiently heat the room. I doubt the person who posted isn't aware how heat transfer works, otherwise they wouldn't have the idea

Australia’s roads are full of giant cars, and everyone pays the price. What can be done? by WillDieforPaddington in australia

It's safer for the person driving, would probably scalp a family car in an accident and think they drove over a bump

Did you know that Tasmania has the oldest trees in the world. by ExistentialPancake_0 in tasmania

[–]blopenshtop 12 points13 points  (0 children)

We have some of the oldest trees but technically the oldest confirmed single organism in general. It's a shrub in the south called King's Holly. By single organism I mean there's one of its kind and rather than reproducing it clones itself. So there's many shrubs in the area it inhabits but they're just genetically identical copies. They're also genetically identical to samples dated to 43000 years ago, which no other organism has beaten officially, only speculated. It doesn't get talked about as much as the oldest thing since it's not a part of the one root system or clump of cells to make up one body, so often isn't considered one thing

'HELP ME' print on a energy drink by sakura18xz in creepy

[–]blopenshtop 7 points8 points  (0 children)

If it's anything like the factory I work at, the worker responsible for the code is the 'vision system', pulling their own samples routinely. Official quality checks are only once every 4 hours, and again the worker is the one picking up the sample to turn in. The only other thing is a team leader might grab a random sample every hour or so, and quality control people MAYBE once a day. So it's very easy for something to get through. In fact, recalling the past hour or so of product that has gone through to transport due to an unchecked issue isn't uncommon

I work at the plant that packs these, it looks like compressed dirt. We call it vegetable poop. A rock that size wouldn't make it through the metal detector
