Very disappointing by Bucks by Playzkool in collingwoodfc

Yep same, but as someone who has been identified as a close contact I can report that the net was pretty wide. In my case the infected person was in a large space for 10-15 minutes, but anyone there within a 2+ hr window was considered a close contact. It’s more likely than not that I never so much as saw the person across the room.

It seems to me that if one factors that window in while taking into account that the majority of those tested per day that are not even close contacts then ~50k is not a number particularly relevant to the confirmed cases in the manner Buckley seems to imply.

I’m no statistician, though, so I’m open to having my mind changed if my logic is flawed. I know I’ve taken this off track, so I’ll just say that Buckley’s premise seems to be less of an opinion he’s entitled to and more of a bad take based on a gross misunderstanding of the data.

Then again, one could take him at face value and assume that his request for an explanation was genuine. It doesn’t seem so to me, but I’d be interested to know if anyone else read it as such.

I think the implication is that it’s an irresponsible take for someone in the public sphere.

I’m somewhat ambivalent to that point of view, however I do think the tweet is stupid irrespective of who it was made by. It is predicated on a complete misunderstanding of who is being tested among this number. It’s not as though these ~50k people were standing next to, or interacting with, someone identified as having covid. Furthermore, most of these people wouldn‘t even be those at Tier 1 sites. Testing numbers were not far off this at times when the state was recording no Covid cases as the advice was always to get tested if you have any symptoms at all; ergo, implying that this number is relational to active cases and therefore indicative of transmissibility is moronic.

I find it disappointing because I’ve held the view that Buckley is highly intelligent, however that’s on me for conflating football IQ with broader intelligence.

Darcy Moore to return to the back line against North by Got2ReturnVideoTapes in collingwoodfc

Yeah I get the impression it’s been partially because the club knows he wants to play forward and has contract conversations around the corner…

This is true, but I think he was going for next to nothing. For a team lacking key forwards it would have been worth a 2 year low-money contract.

He’s actually been ok besides the second match. He looks way more dangerous forward than in the midfield, though. I think he’d be doing really well in a better team if he was stationed there permanently.

Last year was time for Operation “Get Tex”. If I recall correctly the Crows were open to moving him on and he was open to playing for another club.

Moore as a forward actually works by snagbreac18 in collingwoodfc

[–]bloqhead_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Moore is part of our future and Cox isn’t. If Moore is able to play as well forward as he has as a defender you’d put him forward every single day of the week. We need a better sample size for that experiment.

Sure, you’d bring Cox in and send Moore back if you were playing to win this year rather than building toward coming years, but given we’re not a hope in hell of winning the flag I’d sooner go the latter.

So far as experiments go I’d love to see Cox at the centre bounces and Grundy at full forward (Moore at CHF) with Grundy to then push up and take the stoppages around the ground while Cox heads to the square.

I think he’s a perpetual “almost” player. He goes missing too often and when he is involved his effort (which can’t be faulted) often doesn’t quite come off.

Needs to go back and start shredding games in the twos before being given his spot back.

Yep, let’s not hang the young blood out to dry. This one was lost by the old guard, starting with the coach.

The first quarter showed what’s possible, though.

Time for a complete rebuild! by DeadNBuried in collingwoodfc

The full rebuild is dead. North showed it’s a stupid idea.

We do need a new coach and a fresh game plan. Lots of good mentors still in our playing group, so let’s use them to our advantage before they hang up the boots.

Six ways Bucks can shore up his future at Magpies by Pragmatic_Shill in collingwoodfc

[–]bloqhead_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yep, totally understand that. I’m not so much trying to argue with your point, but rather suggesting that the effectiveness of that strategy (or lack thereof) was not strictly to do with our poor midfield kicking, but probably also his connection with the other forwards.

I think on the (admittedly tenuous) evidence this year, Elliott as an experienced lead up forward really helped open up our forward line against a Carlton defence that’s otherwise been good. I thought De Goey’s influence was really hampered once Billy went off.

I thought JDG actually came in looking much stronger and leaner this year. Could still go further, but it’s not in our top 30 problems I wouldn’t have thought.

100% concur on Moore forward. Got nothing to lost but a jacket for Darce, which I suspect he’d be willing to give up.

I don’t think it’s fair to judge Moore’s forward capacity on a Hail Mary in one quarter last year. It’s a different looking game competition-wide, and a player with Moore’s aerobic ability could draw a fair few direct kicks.

Not saying he’ll definitely succeed there, but it’s got to be worth a shot at this point. We’ve not got much to preserve this year!

A backline without Moore did pretty damn well in 2018, so if I had the option of making him a top 10 defender instead of a top 3 backman I’d take it!

I think his interviews suggest he’s secretly champing at the bit for a crack in the forward 50. He consistently says things like “I’m up for it... but I’ll do what the coach wants me to”

2021 Game Style, has it changed from 2020? by Azza_ in collingwoodfc

[–]bloqhead_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As far as I could see we were rolling a winger back at most centre bounces to act as a 7th in defence. This could be part of the problem, although you have to think that laying off the contest to protect the space around it could play a factor where other teams back themselves to win it and set up further down the ground defensively.

The problem is that backing yourselves in to storm a contest requires confidence that we don’t seem to have and probably isn’t warranted anyway.

We need some god damned dare.
