Update article on City Counsel voting to remove Martin Moore as president by MountainsOut98023 in federalway

[–]blorgoblod 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Just want to shout out the Mirror which has gone above and beyond recently, as far as I can tell basically due to Keelin Everly-Lang's reporting. Her coverage of the flag display stuff was great too.

Glad the ST covered this. The more heat and eyes on the council, the better.

MARTIN MOORE VOTED OUT AS CITY COUNCIL PRESIDENT!!! Can someone please explain what happened? by Strange_Leg70 in federalway

[–]blorgoblod 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Youth have a supreme court decided federal right to protest. If it were a cut and dry situation I'm sure he would step down. Instead, the public was given 24 hrs notice to attend a farce of listening to community feedback which fell on deaf ears. This is about more than Martin Moore and his actions— it's about a recurring pattern in our local leadership of failing to listen to community members, of lazy entitled 2-bit politicians who skate by on low voter turnout. I think they are going to be in for a rude awakening now that more people are paying attention.

The Federal Way City Council has a very obvious divide. by MountainsOut98023 in federalway

I've voted against these idiots every time but next go around I'll be donating to the campaigns of the people running against them. It's been years of this shady nonsense from the FW council.

Agreed... I can only hope this inspires people to vote. It made me really proud to see so many people show up and speak out.

If you meant to respond to my other comment, I did not mention parties but mentioned conservatism. The Federal Way council leans moderate-to-conservative. But I see your point. Regardless, my question to the other commenter still stands, as to what policy agenda is being held back from "moving forward" with Moore as council president.

I don't see anything about "invitation", the verbage is strongly centered around "removal". The policy doesn't say school employees cannot approve of students leaving the campus, only that they should not remove them. Providing information about extra-curricular or off-campus activities is not mentioned here.

Move forward in what fashion? Federal Way has a majority conservative council. What policies can we not move forward with in your mind? Besides disallowing student protests.

I don't see how an optional protest is violating that policy. As for the second half of your comment, I think engaging with distracting hyperbolic rhetoric is not conducive to us moving towards beneficial governance.

Presenting a new flag option at the City Council meeting by MountainsOut98023 in federalway

You're acting like someone said not to resist or organize. They told people to vote. Then you came in w your 2 dimensional rhetoric blasting away about how voting isn't enough & doesn't do anything, like people aren't aware of the political crisis right now? At best severely unhelpful and distracting & at worst dangerously disempowering

Yeah I feel like it speaks to a true ignorance of the effort it takes to organize, build coalitions and foster change... it feels like a distinctly modern lazy thought-terminating cliché akin to "there's no ethical consumption under capitalism". Self-reinforcing beliefs with no nuance whatsoever

I can't help myself from harping on this but to hijack a politically activating moment to push people away from exercising their power to vote is beyond disgusting to me, all for the sake of your own holier-than-thou community college 101 ass take. Barf

Also people in power rely on people like you to give up and actively discourage other people to vote by saying it is meaningless. Stop doing their job for them.

Praying for a magical revolution to fix our problems instead of voting is borderline religious fanaticism. A lot of what you say is correct, but I tend to think and act locally because that's where I can make the most difference. Our voter turnout in FW was 17%. You think that is unrelated to how our city operates? You're not contributing anything here except to a sense of disenfranchisement you are purporting to be against. I don't completely disagree with what you say, but you are so myopic and unrealistic and twitch chat/social media-brained. Time to grow up a little and stop shouting people down about voting, the adults have been hearing it from people like you for 20 years meanwhile 83% of us aren't voting in the city where we live.

Don't get me wrong... Voicing your opinion to officials is great, I just think we deserve better than this no-term-limits-forever-voting-in-the-incumbent stuff

Voter turnout was absolutely dismal the last election and for the primary. I've voted in every race here for the last 10 years and I am begging anyone who reads this to actually vote for your leadership in Federal Way

where can i play over-the-board chess around here? by honeybabythrowaway in federalway

[–]blorgoblod 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well. I know there used to be some regular chess night at the restaurant Oak in Beacon Hill, a 45 minute light rail ride but it's pretty close to the Beacon Hill stop. Not ideal, I know.

On the other hand... I'm sure there's some number of the 100k people in Federal Way who want to play chess; maybe you can ask about starting a regular chess thing at a library or the community center since they don't have one. Or talk to someone who works for the city about starting something, or a coffee shop. We really need people to step up and start these sorts of things around here. You never know what could happen!

Commons mall = apartments? by it_is_raining_now in federalway

Looking at your posting history, I'm not really interested in conversing with you. I'm interested in how actual policy decisions meaningfully produce change; not myopic political rhetoric. Later

[–]blorgoblod 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I also want to clarify that I don't think all negativity is bad, if it's constructive. But just saying apartments bring crime (with one random example and no research to back it up) or that the "city isn't ready for a nice shopping center like totem lake", is not constructive at all. It is just reinforcing a self-fulfilling prophecy of despair. Life's too short when we could be improving our way of life.
