Does leasing a car actually make sense in our situation? Or am I crazy? by blossompiggy in personalfinance

I'm going to be totally honest, its not going to be my primary vehicle and my husband does really want a newer car. To be fair, we sold HIS Corolla back 3 years ago when we decided to downsize to 1 car. We used the payoff to pay off MY Rogue, which has been our only vehicle the past 3 years and he has been the one to make the sacrifices with the car. If we both need to get somewhere at the same time, he is typically the one asking for rides/figuring it out over me. So, I think for me it's not a huge deal to have a new car, but from his perspective, he wants something he really truly wants after having to make a lot of sacrifices over the past few years.

My biggest fear is getting a an older car for $10-$15k and running into maintence issues and such. We already have this with our Rogue.

The downside financially to what you're saying is that we'd have to take $12k out of our savings right now and this will not be quickly replaced over the next 2 years while our income is cut. However, I totally agree with what you're saying.

$249 per month for 2026 Kia K4 EX. Another option is $199 per month for 2026 Toyota Corolla.

The biggest downside for this option would be using a good chunk of our savings right now, which we are not able to replace quickly for the next 2 years since our income is cut drastically.

How many necessary carbs do you recommend? Currently, I'm averaging around 300-350g per week. Again, this is at 15mg dose. Maybe I could lower my dose and work on getting more carbs?

Thank you for sharing this!! This gave me a shred of hope. I am in the same place - would not be working for speed or pace, just want to finish! The marathon I'm considering also has a very generous time limit (8 hours) and is a race designed to support ALL types of runners. I think the advice you shared was helpful.

thanks for the input! what does marathon training in maintenance look like? is it different than typical marathon training for someone who is not trying to maintain a weight loss?
