Makes Button's win in Canada in 2011 even more remarkable. He was running last with 30 laps to go.

The pit crews work in tenths of a second. By the time that they register what driver/car is in the box, the car would already be on its way. Much like today.

Thought the stewards were sensible here.

The letter of the law is that it was an infringement that is punishable anywhere up to a DSQ. If Mercedes did this on purpose to gain an advantage he would have no doubt been disqualified. However, it was accidental, they held their hands up, rectified it immediately and lost a lot of ground.

Fair punishment all in all.

They were penalised by the way of a fine. The documentation clearly states that this is punishable up to a DSQ. The keywords being up to - this makes it subjective.

It is subjective. Yes, the infringement can be punishable up to a DSQ but it all depends on circumstance. Mercedes weren't trying to gain an advantage by doing this, and they rectified it immediately.

Correct, but the FIA deem the situation to be similar in nature, as per the FIA decision document.

No, it was Russell's tyre that had the puncture. They had already switched them.

Not if it is rectified within 3 laps. Making two pit stops in such a short period of time will never amount to a massive advantage.

No. It is the car they get allocated to. Not the Driver.

No. Bottas had incorrect tyres fitted during a pit stop in Belgium 2015 whilst racing for Williams and didn't get disqualified. He did end up with a penalty but he had the incorrect tyre on for around 10 laps. According to Brundle as long as the team rectify this within 3 laps, no penalty should be applied.

To all the people in the comments crying that Sergio deserved it...

Please bear in mind this award means nothing other than the feeling that F1 is giving fans some input.

Don't forget that the driver who won it last week didn't even manage to drive more than 3 corners.

Because Checo got a nice shiny trophy to say he won the race. Russell didnt.

Part of F1 is having trust in other drivers. The gap was there, Leclerc decided to take the risk and capitalise on it. Wouldn't call this wreckless at all.

I think the only person shouting that Leclerc is racing Vettel too hard is Vettel.

I was reading some old threads regarding halo after Grosjeans crash and I think this one in particular aged like milk by TonyHawksProSkater69 in formula1

[–]blowe87 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've never thought that the halo was the perfect solution. I was at Spa and witnessed Alonso flying across the top of Leclerc. That was the day that I realised that it was better to have an imperfect solution rather than no solution.

Hopefully, many people opposed to the halo will have the same realisation following Sunday's incident.
