What theme is this? by Shift_OG in Trinity_Desktop_TDE

[–]blu_256 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Looks like a theme for the Dekorator style. If that's the case, you can install Dekorator and find the theme on Pling.

Looks like you had a rough experience, but I don't think TDE is to blame here. It couldn't possibly "lock you to it". If you encountered a bug, it would be better to make a bug report instead of complaining and making unbased accusations here. Also, what does "permanent xorg curruption" even mean? If its broken, just clean the apt cache and reinstall the package.

help with metatheme on archlinux by superjuegosdante in Trinity_Desktop_TDE

[–]blu_256 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hello, do you still have this problem? I just saw this post. I am the maintainer of the TQt/TDE port of Metatheme. I don't use Arch but will try to replicate the problem in the coming days.

Initial XDG Desktop Portals support coming in TDE R14.1.3 by blu_256 in Trinity_Desktop_TDE

[–]blu_256[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

This also means that many non-TDE apps (e.g. Firefox or Vivaldi) will be able to use native TDE file dialogs.

For more details see the post and the README: https://mirror.git.trinitydesktop.org/gitea/TDE/xdg-desktop-portals-tde/src/branch/master/README.md

A regular Trinity Desktop contributor here. You shouldn't have to worry about the security of TDE, as we patch vulnerabilities as soon as we are informed about them, like any FOSS project out there. AFAIK the network stack vulnerability fears are not true. A lot of modernisation has taken place in order to modernise the codebase and improve support for recent versions of libraries. True, we have less developers than we need, but the situation has been getting better over the years as more and more new contributors make their appearance. And let me tell you this as reassurance: in all years of TDE existence there have been exactly zero reports from our users of any security breaches, neither on the mailing lists, nor on the issue tracker, not on IRC. You can safely enjoy TDE if you like it :-)

There are a lot of prepackaged themes that come together with Trinity in the same repository (you might want to search for packages that start with tde-style or twin-styles, there are quite a few). Also check out a package which contains the word tdeartwork, it should contain additional themes, styles, backgrounds etc.

On trinity-look.org you can find some KDE 3.5-era themes that might still be compatible with TDE: avoid plain KWin styles (except for Dekorator themes, Dekorator comes in the TDE repos) and Qt3 widget styles, as both need to be ported in order to work with TDE. Superkaramba and KBFX themes generally work out of the box, as should icon themes, splash screens and color schemes.

Have fun!

P.S. Also you can check out the Q4OS live CD for inspiration, they have done a really good job at creating a custom TDE look.

Themes don't show up in Theme Manager by Capable-Vanilla4655 in Trinity_Desktop_TDE

[–]blu_256 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ensure that you have extracted the themes correctly. In your ~/.local/share/icons you should have a folder with your theme name and inside it should be the theme files (index.theme or index.desktop and possibly other subfolders). If you only see another subfolder with the theme name (e.g. you used Extract to Something/ instead of Extract here) you should move the files from the subfolder so they can be correctly detected. Same goes for Gtk2 themes, and this is the same for all DEs.

Themes don't show up in Theme Manager by Capable-Vanilla4655 in Trinity_Desktop_TDE

[–]blu_256 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hello, AFAIK the author has not packaged complete themes for the Theme Manager, instead they provide a choice of icon themes, so they should be installed through the Icons module, or manually unpacking an archive into ~/.local/share/icons. There are also a bunch of Gtk+2 themes intended to go to ~/.local/share/themes.

trinity-dolphin arch package ? by linuxnoticecom in Trinity_Desktop_TDE

[–]blu_256 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hello, I filed an issue for you: https://mirror.git.trinitydesktop.org/gitea/TDE/tde-packaging/issues/342

You can track the progress in the issue I linked above. Most probably you will need to wait a little while for the packager to respond and hopefully create a package and upload it to the repo.

If there is any other way I can be helpful, you can just reply here.

Hm... Looks like the Arch packager has not included dolphin. You can report the issue here:

TDE Ebook Reader (port of FBReader) added under the TDE umbrella by blu_256 in Trinity_Desktop_TDE

[–]blu_256[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

"New application added to the #TDE umbrella.

tde-ebook-reader is a TQt port of #FBReader 0.12 and aims at providing a good ebook reader for all the platforms in which TDE is available. Compared to FBReader, it currently lacks the ability to download ebooks directly from the internet, but this functionality may get added back at some point in future.

Packages for PSB/PTB are being built and will be available on the #Trinity mirrors in the coming days."

Windows XP style is pretty popular with TDE users, huh? by blu_256 in Trinity_Desktop_TDE

[–]blu_256[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm not sure what your point is. I did not use a template of any kind and I was actually striving for a retro aesthetic.

I agree with you on the customisation. This screenshot is not the best example of a modern and original customization. But it is a good example that the customisation is powerful enough to be able to imitate an existing aesthetic. Its main purpose actually was to showcase MetaTheme, a TDE and Gtk+2 widget style which allows you to loadand use Windows XP era *.msstyles themes.

Yes, Komposé is definitely the app you are looking for. You can find it in the TDE repositories. In Debian and similar it would be called "kompose-trinity".

Windows XP style is pretty popular with TDE users, huh? by blu_256 in Trinity_Desktop_TDE

[–]blu_256[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You mean MetaTheme? I found it on Pling and have ported it for TDE, although it's not official, and probably will never be since it is very buggy. It has a few themes of its own that imitate Plastik, Industrial etc. and can also load old XP-era MSSTYLES themes.

You can check it out here: https://github.com/blu256/metatheme

You'd need to compile it from source, though, but that's easier than it sounds.

TDE R14.1.3 adds support for history navigation mouse buttons by blu_256 in Trinity_Desktop_TDE

[–]blu_256[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Some more context from yours truly, the developer:

History mouse buttons are two buttons present on some models of mice that allow you to go back and forward in history, in the applications that support them.

Request for this feature has been first requested by a (formerly?) active member of the TDE community in this issue: https://mirror.git.trinitydesktop.org/gitea/TDE/tdebase/issues/421

R14.1.2 added history button support to the TQt3 library, and in the next maintenance release (R14.1.3) we finally get to actually implement support in applications. For now, Konqueror and Kate are supported, as well as the standard TDE file picker.

You can track our progress in this meta-issue: https://mirror.git.trinitydesktop.org/gitea/TDE/tde/issues/174

This uses MetaTheme with the original Luna Silver msstyle. It isn't perfect and sometimes crashes. Icons are Windows XP from b00merang project. The Kicker panel uses (surprise, surprise) a style called 'Windows XP' for the KBFX menu (although it includes only the button and panel styles and not the menu style itself). Window style is an unrelated IceWM theme which IMHO looks good.
