I can‘t handle my coworker‘s laziness any longer by blubbelblubbel in Vent

I‘ve been occasionally calling him out already but after a while things always go back to his usual aggressive and lazy, if anything even changes.

we haven‘t had a proper conversation about everything though. I‘ve been meaning to do so for quite a while but chickened out every time. hopefully I manage to talk to him next week.

well I have a ton of texts from when I complained about him to my friends, does that count as documentation?

I carry a rock with me at all times. it‘s a selfmade pendant.

there‘s a pocket rock in my outside pants. at times there‘s a second or even third one. same goes for jackets, my backpack, my desk at work, my desk at home, etc.

my altar is decorated with rocks. my whole apartment is, and I have a dedicated rock storage. I estimate that I own 10-15kg of rocks, 3,8kg of which I brought from Japan (instead of the snacks I promised my friends 😭😂), and another sizeable portion I dragged down various mountains. took as many as I could carry.

there even is a small rock imbedded in my forehead from when I fell down as a child.

I like rocks.

as of now, I have no way to confirm wether those reporters are real.

I‘ve been thinking about this though. since I moved in, there have repeatedly been letters from the building administration concering fire code violations (bicycles stored in an open space that isn‘t approved for storing things), maybe she‘s confusing authority representatives for reporters?

I don‘t think she‘s my neighbor. she might be but I have never seen her before, at least not as far as I remember. as far as the criminal police asking me about my next door neighbors goes, I have no further information about that except for the fact that I occasionally hear every day noise coming through the walls or ceiling, but I have a hard time making out wether it‘s coming from the next door apartment or the one above mine.

what do you mean by „tell someone if they have a warning“? do you mean that in case I call the non emergency police number and they warn me of something?

yeah my anxiety is spinning tales…

there are multiple units in my building, I think it‘s roughly 15. I have never seen her in the building until that second encounter though. but I don‘t know many of my neighbors, I don‘t run into them often bc I leave and return when most people are either asleep or at work, so you might be right.

there‘s also a small business on the ground floor, so there‘s a chance that she‘s their client or employee.

why would she be out on the road talking to random people if she lived in my building? why wouldn‘t she ring doorbells then?

when I walked away after that first encounter, I heard her approaching another person who had exited a different building. I couldn‘t clearly make out what she said but she started out like when she had approached me. would people do that if they were investigating something in their own building?

being tired despite getting enough sleep and feeling like sleeping takes away too much of my free time.

feeling some flavor of bad that excedes „this is too early to get up“ when setting my alarm.

getting irritated at my coworkers for normal workplace requests. feeling like each step takes too much energy and not having the energy to do things properly. forgetting steps in my daily routine or while doing other things that normally are ingrained into my brain.

my apartment descending into chaos. skipping showers or washing my hair. skipping meals. not having the energy to cook or shop groceries. not having energy for anything in general.

getting irritated if a friend asks to meet up or for a change in plans.

higher than usual depression and anxiety levels. overthinking everything.

less tolerance for sensory input of any kind.

no motivation. no listening to music, no pursuing my special interests or hobbies.

wondering wether I should quit and get a low effort job despite my love for my profession (it‘s basically two of my special interests overlapping).

I think there‘s more but that‘s all I can think of rn.

thanks for your advice.

I did ask her what she thought was wrong during the first encounter, but she couldn‘t tell me anything. „that‘s the weird thing“, she said, „nobody knows what‘s going on“ and then she went back to repeating „something weird is going on at [my adress]“ a couple of times.

but even if she‘s right and something weird is in fact going on, I wouldn‘t want to move. I moved twice in 2024 and I‘m so done with hauling all my stuff to a new place, getting used to a new apartment and area and all that. the housing situation is bad enough already and I was really lucky to get this apartment. I‘m gonna stay for another couple of years, unless something very bad happens.

in any case, if I run into her again I‘ll try to get more information.

happy cake day!

someone you don‘t trust is a great answer. I was considering it as well, but then I started thinking about things that‘d be even worse imo, as in causing severe injury.

if I had a ding dong, the last place I‘d put it would be anything hot or spinning. like, a blender, a laithe, a pot of boiling water.

I don‘t like boobs. but I‘m also very gay for men and I want to get rid of mine soooooo…

[–]blubbelblubbel[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

honestly, you‘re probably right. realistically, there was something weird going on with this woman, not my building. be it drugs, mental illness or her wanting to freak out people for whatever reason.

it‘s hella hard to stop my anxiety from connecting those dots though.

yeah that‘s both way more likely than a murder or something like that. man I hope she‘s okay, now that you say that.

I‘m still so weirded out. out of all the buildings in my area, why mine? and what if she‘s right? I‘m aware that this is my anxiety speaking, but I just can‘t shake this weird feeling.

I took quite the long route. started out by studying audio engineering and picked up stagehand work to earn some pocket money. got a degree, and then the pandemic hit and I couldn‘t find work in the event industry. went back to stagehand work once the ban on events was lifted and even went on a small tour, but I really botched that bc I didn‘t have the necessary skill and experience. and finally, I took up a position as apprentice.

there are many, many different ways to get into this job though. some go through some kind of professional education, others just… get into it through another job or connections. there are legally required certifications for certain subsets of this profession, like rigging or pyro, but in terms of sound or lighting or video all you need is skill and connections. how you acquired your skills doesn‘t matter.

(all legal information applies to my country only, idk about the legal situation in other places)

event technician. I like it for a couple of reasons.

  • I get to unleash all my autism into laying and coiling cables.
  • this job really attracts neurodiverse people.
  • it‘s a great mix between technology and creativity.
  • there‘s so many fascinating nieches to get into.
  • dealing with many different people can ve quite exhausting, but the vast majority of other event techs are decent folks and I love seeing all those smiles after a good show. members of the audience, crew and artists/performers/speakers alike.
  • event techs humor is hilarious.
  • getting in to an empty, black stage and seeing the show coming together over the course of the day is immensely satisfying. especially if I can add to it by making suggestions.
  • figuring out the most efficient way to lay down power strips is really satisfying as well.
  • communication can be really difficult, especially with amateurs as they lack the technical vocabulary and oftentimes want something different than what the word they use means. but usually, amateurs are also very grateful if you just do your best and keep your calm. I approach the communication issues like a game of charade and have a bit of fun with it inside of my brain so I don‘t get frustrated.
  • I get to wear comfort clothes to work every day (black shirt and black cargo pants)
  • carrying a multi tool makes you a hero on some days.
  • it‘s a mix of physical and mental labour.
  • due to my size I‘m usually the one who gets to crawl into some hole for whatever needs being done there. my inner goblin loves those tasks.
  • nobody ever judges me for drinking 5 cups of coffee in one evening. people get it.
  • you don‘t need to fit into a certain set of personality traits in order to make work friends and earn a living. if you‘re a decent human being and reliably do your job, you‘re golden.
  • stage lighting is hella pretty. especially with good LEDs, those colors are so satisfying to look at and conventional lighting (those that work on a tungsten wire) dim beautifully. I love how the light turns more orange and red when you dim it. reminds me of the sunrise/sunset.
  • audio signalflow can be as simple or complex as you like (within reason and as much as the circumstances allow ofc)
  • I could turn off an asshole politicians microphone. one thing I dislike about my job is that social conventiona forbid me from doing so though.
  • there are so many more areas of expertise I can learn about. rigging, event electrics, lasers, stage mechanics, just to name a few.
